The day is here! Time to start our 3 Day Group Juice Fast! I hope everyone is ready and excited! Please make sure to post when you can. It helps keep us all motivated.

For those of you bringing your juice to work with you, make sure you seal it up good and store it in a fridge or ice chest. You will want to make sure your juice is filled to the top as to not let any air in your container. This will help to keep it as fresh as possible.

I'm excited to hear back from all of you. I'll be here if you need me!

"Willpower is essential to the accomplishment of anything worthwhile." Keep this in mind while on your fast!

I was 212 lbs before I started juicing, today I am 185 lbs and feel better than I did 10 years ago!

Hello this will be my first juice fast. I just came from the store and plan to start tomorrow Tuesday 5/7/13 and end Saturday afternoon (I will be boarding the cruise ship to start my vacation). My goal is to lose a few extra pounds by Saturday. Is it feasible to lose 4-6 lbs juicing for 5 days?

Also I have a juicer and a Ninja blender. Should I use one over the other or both? If so, how? I was wondering if I should use the blender in the morning to make a protein smoothie using whey protein and just use my juicer for the remainder of the day. Any advice will be appreciated.

Welcome Fitnwhole! You should have no problem losing 4-6 pounds within 5 days. If your main goal is to lose weight then you need to make sure you are only juicing. No smoothies, only juice! It's optimal to use just fresh fruits and veggies during your fast, so stay away from the protein powder unless it's pure 100% unflavored protein isolate.

Remember, the blenders do not separate the pulp/fiber from the juice. One of the main keys in juicing is to not take in the fiber/pulp in order to let your digestive system rest and cleanse.

Keep your juices about 20% fruits and 80% vegetables during those five days and I'm sure you will lose that 4-6 pounds! Keep us updated and if you have any questions, I'll be here to answer them.

Well, so far so good. I did have to add a snack juice of oranges and carrots after lunch. (You're right. It does taste like orange soda.) But I'm hanging in! I have a headache, so I took some excedrin. So I should back to "normal" in no time. I'll check back later to see how everyone else is doing. I hope it's going well for all of you.

Hi all!

I didn't plan to start until tomorrow, but other than a pretty healthy sushi (sashimi) lunch with a friend, I've been juicing faithfully. I made myself a pineapple/orange/carrot snack juice when I got home (I drove 1.5 hours to the LA area for a doctor appointment this morning, and met an old friend for lunch while I was there) which is absolutely delicious. Today was my first day off in 8 days so I had to postpone shopping and prep until today, but I was happy to discover while "juicing to clean out my fridge" that zucchini makes a surprisingly pleasant tasting juice.

I'm feeling really good since I did the 7 day fast two weeks ago. I think I'm really close to my ideal weight right now, as I fit comfortably in my clothes and look good while maintaining a necessarily high energy level for my physical job and gym rat tendencies. I wanted to do this 3 day fast now because since I'm ALWAYS hungry, I'm in danger of overeating in spite of my best intentions and gaining back all my lost fat pounds. As has been mentioned a few times elsewhere in this forum, intermittent fasting makes a lot more evolutionary sense than trying to maintain a constant, ideal weight by eating a limited calorie diet every day. It also appeals more to my stomach and taste buds!

To everyone else involved in this fast: if I can do this, you can too. Really. And it's worth it. Good luck all! :-)

It is going great so far. My son has also joined the fast and we have been texting each other all day with encouragement. I feel fine so far even with meds. I want to get through the day with nothing but juice and know I can do it. I am surprised that I have not been hungry and no headache either. Just got home and my husband will be cooking dinner so that might be a little bothersome but hey my commitment is such that I want to make it through today. Wednesday I will be in a business meeting all day and they usually serve you breakfast and lunch. I think I will step outside during that one. Well glad I am home and going to juice my dinner in a bit...hope all are doing well- had orange and carrots for breakfast, celery, spinach, cucumber for lunch. Check in later.

Started my day with the lemon and water and then did the sunrise surprise juice, which was actually pretty good. During my lunch break had celery, kale, carrot and granny smith apple with just enough POM juice to fill it to the top. Unfortunately, during work I went through all the water I had brought from home and filled my container up with water from a filtered system they have at work. That water tasted absolutely horrible, which meant no more water for the rest of the work shift. By the time I left I had one of the worst headaches I have had in a long time!! Had hoped to try and get through it without taking any ibuprofen, but just couldn't take it any more. Will definitely be making sure I take plenty of my own water tomorrow. Husband is cooking his dinner and am feeling hungry at the moment, but as soon as I finish this am determined to go make my dinner juice. Going to try the purple power minus the purple (stopped at 2 places and no one had organic red cabbage, so stuck using green cabbage). Minus the headache, the rest of the day went well as far as energy. Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!!!

@lesfleurs Doesn't it taste great! Remember to take tylenol or ibuprofen as excedrin contains caffeine.

@laura Sushi is one of my favs! That's one long drive to see a doctor, but then again, the place I used to work at was a 52 mile drive one way so I know what that's like. Zucchini is one of those things that people generally overlook when juicing. I find it is delicious and tastes better than a cucumber in certain drinks. I agree with you on the intermittent fasting. That's why I go for a 3 or 7 day every other week. It's beneficial for you and gives you that freedom to eat afterwards. Thank you so much for joining us this juice fast. You are a great motivation to us all and it's a pleasure to have you back on the boards!

@Corpusmae That's awesome that your son joined up with you! It's great to have others to fast with, it helps to keep you motivated. It can be tough during business functions, especially when food is involved. They used to cater in lunch everyday at work. It was tough watching everyone else eat all the goods while I drank a juice. But it was well worth it in the end after I dropped over 20 pounds.

Everyone is doing great! Thanks for posting when you can. This is the first day so some of you might experience hunger, cravings or headaches. That's perfectly fine to experience since your body is detoxing. Most of your hunger and cravings at this point are habitual cravings that come during normal eating and snack times.

If your hungry don't starve yourself! Drink a juice! But make sure you can tell the difference between being hungry, and habitual eating. Hunger is when your body is telling you it needs more nutrients. So don't hesitate to make a juice the minute you start feeling that hunger.

You guys are almost 1/3 of the way finished! Keep up the amazing willpower!!! Keep your goals in mind, and let that guide you to finishing this out. After all, it's only 3 days, you'll get back to solids in a few days!

Good morning!

As usual, I'm not using recipes, just throwing stuff into the juicer to see what comes out. Breakfast this morning is a delicious concoction of pineapple, strawberry, orange and grapefruit with a few large handfuls of mixed garden greens thrown in. Lunch will be similar to what I brewed for dinner last night: several small zucchini, a couple of Roma tomatoes, a big handful of basil and a lemon.

I woke up feeling great this morning and did 20 minutes on the bike in between my warm grapefruit water (I have a LOT of grapefruit to use yet!) and my breakfast juice. I'll probably add some veggie protein isolate to my lunch juice just to make sure I can make it through my work day and physical therapy after.

Hope everyone else is staying strong and starting to feel good. Have a great day!

Corpusmae, the Gung Ho Mango is delicious right! You're doing great! Everyday that passes is one day closer to reaching your goals. Just keep that in mind!

Laura, You're like me, I never really follow recipes but I do write down the ones that I enjoy the most. I'm going to have to try the zucchini, tomato, basil, lemon tonight. I might throw in a hint of garlic as I've been craving some chips and salsa lately.

I hope everyone is having a terrific day! Keep us updated!

Started my with lemon and water and the sunrise surprise again, since I still had leftovers from day one. Lunch was the green giant (hope to be able to afford a better juicer for greens some day, because mine does not do that well). On my way home from work had an orange/carrot juice and just finished the dinner sunset passion for my last juice of the day. Most of the day my energy was good, but am getting tired early tonight. Scale showed 3 pound loss this morning- yeah! Totally amazed that I have not felt real hunger during these 2 days. Did have some strong cravings today, but not hunger. Hope everyone else is doing well and staying strong! One day left to go!

Well I am home and survived a day of barbecue where everyone was eating all around me. I got my juice and wrote letters to my family to keep me from thinking about it. Just got home after a trip to the grocery store. Feel tired but did not drink that much juice today, cause I didn't make enough. Lesson learned. Going to make my juice right now, not sure which one but will make it. I will throw in a scoop of protein isolate to help me out. Thanks for all the posts, they are really helping me!

DJ, what kind of juicer are you currently using? Remember, hunger is just your body telling you that it needs nutrients. Since you're getting plenty of nutrients your body is adapting well! Cravings will come and go, most of them are habitual eating cravings. My habitual craving during my first fast was that I would always snack on something while watching tv. Once I got past that it was just so easy! Glad you are doing great!

Corpusmae, BBQ's are so tempting and smell so delicious when your juicing. It's a huge tease... My neighbors seem to BBQ just about every day when I'm juicing but I never when I'm not juicing! I wonder if they are on to me and trying to get me to cave!

Keep the juicing guys! One more day to go. You all have been doing so great!

I got home late after work and physical therapy and the grocery store and was absolutely starving, so I just threw a bunch of stuff maniacally into the juicer. I ended up with a complex and surprisingly tasty juice that I may actually try to recreate at some point. Started with 2 small tomatoes, 2 carrots, and a golden beet plus the tops, added a quarter head of red cabbage and a big handful of garden greens with a lot of cilantro, and finished it off with an apple and a peeled lemon. Really not bad.

In spite of a long day I feel great with a ton of energy still. I'm sipping a cup of herbal tea because unfortunately I am still hungry (as per usual...this is not something that passes for me!), and getting ready to shower and turn in for the night.

Keep it up, y'all! We're about to rock this thing!

I've been doing well. Made it through my second day. My favorite juice so far is the orange/carrot. I just love it! No headache today, so that's a bonus. I did seem to be more tempted by the food my family was cooking, but stayed strong. Only one day to go!

I'm ba-ack! I started today on another 3 day. This time, Day 1 was much easier than it was a couple weeks ago! I'm really happy that I was able to do this - I'm in charge of Teacher Appreciation Breakfast at a District office for 70 people, and I ended up shopping for and making a lot of it myself. Today. So, 3 breakfast casseroles, a fruit salad, and 3 dozen muffins later, I'm still just on juice :) I don't have the light-headedness that I experienced last time, just the hunger. I too am leaving this weekend for a cruise, ours starts Sunday.
I did the marathon a few days after my 1st juice fast was over and it went well. Despite a bad cold , I enjoyed it very much. Big Sur really deserved to be a bucket list marathon.
I'll try to catch up a little with you all tomorrow, time for bed - I need to bring over a boatload of food in the morning!

Welcome back Jeanne! I hope all is well. Glad you did the marathon, I've always wanted to do one. I've made food for family but never a group of 70 people!!! That must be interesting to say the least haha!

Laura, sometimes the best juices come from stuff you just throw in the juicer. That's why I always take a before and after pic of my favorites.

Lesfleurs, Try Orange/Carrot/Raspberry/Fennel it's an amazing spin off and has a very distinguishing flavor.

You guys are really rocking it!!! Stay strong and let's finish this out tomorrow!

I have the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth centrifugal juicer. Not exactly thrilled with it cause it leaves a lot of pulp in the juice along with a lot of foam. At least I believe it is a lot, since I am brank new to this and this is my first juicer. It just doesn't seem to produce a lot of juice when I put the kale in. Will have to pay more attention when I juice some romaine lettuce today. I do strain it through a nut milk bag to take out as much pulp as possible. Doing the best I can with what I can afford for now. Good luck to everyone as we face our last day!

DJ, Sorry to hear you are having trouble with your juicer. I have a few different juicers that I use now so I have a good idea of what they do. Depending on what you're juicing some pulp might escape into your juice. With the Hamilton Beach, I have noticed when juicing carrots it leaves some pulp in the juice. With the Cuisinart and Breville it's not so pulpy.

Kale and spinach don't produce that much juice regardless of what brand of centrifugal juicer you are using. I do notice that with Kale/Spinach the Hamilton Beach juicer puts out the same amount of juice as the Breville.

When juicing berries the Hamilton Beach actually does a little better than the Cuisinart but about the same as the Breville.

Foam is an issue, I usually just spoon it off the top when I'm using the Hamilton Beach or Breville. The Cuisinart has a built in thing to catch the foam for you.

I like your idea of straining the juice. It does help to eliminate any pulp and foam that gets into your juices.

Just got honme from a long meeting where they had pasta,(looked good) and great desert, breakfast and snacks all day but made it through. A few people looked at me funny when they saw my green drink but didn't really want to get into it. Don't want to jinx myself, well explain later when I have been consistent for awhile. Down 5 pounds already and my son is down 6. We texted each back and forth and that really helps me through different situations. Going to go make my juice for the evening. So happy I made it through, I am going to continue on with the fast- should we make it a 7 day fast group- what is your suggestion?
