Lose Weight by Juicing

Lose Weight By Juicing

Lose Weight by Juicing

Lose weight by juicing fruits and vegetables. Juicing is a prime way to lose weight while also cleansing your body, resetting your appetite, and restoring your taste buds. Anyone can lose weight by juicing, it’s relatively simple and I’m going to explain the process to you. First you have to understand that losing weight is just a symptom of juicing and the other benefits you will gain are valuable in helping you keep that weight off. So read on to learn how to lose weight by juicing.

Process;  Lose Weight by Juicing

Juicing is a commitment where you only drink fresh fruit and vegetable juices. Don’t worry; it’s not forever, just until you hit your weight loss goal, or longer if you choose. You lose weight by juicing due to the fact that you reduce your caloric intake while massively increasing the quality and quantity of fresh vitamins, nutrients, and minerals that your system needs and craves. Weight will start to fall off fast. I lost 12 pounds in the first week of juicing.

Cleansing; Lose Weight by Juicing

The science behind juicing is rather lengthy so I will sum it up for you but provide a reference to read further into the science behind it at the end of this article. When you go on a juice fast you are creating a condition of low concentration of toxic wastes in your circulatory system. The cells will then let go of their toxic wastes along with fats. These wastes and fats get passed out through your urine. To lose weight by juicing, you should have a basic understanding that when these toxins are released they lead to a case of toxemia as your system cleanses itself. Sounds bad right? Not really! It’s a natural part of the healing process and you should welcome it. Within a few days to a week your body will be cleansed.

Keep at it; Lose Weight by Juicing

Once you have gone through the first few days of juicing, it will be smooth sailing afterwards. Your body adjusts to the juice, the majority of toxins have been removed and you are starting to lose weight.  You also start to feel energetic and refreshed. Even your hair and skin will start to glow. Your body gets accustomed to not eating super huge fatty meals. This helps you to control your appetite and servings when you go back to solid food. You will lose weight by juicing, but you will gain so much more.

It’s no secret that you will lose weight by juicing. How much weight you lose is up to you. I’ve lost a total of 30 pounds altogether but have known people who have lost upwards of 100 pounds. If you want to lose weight by juicing I strongly recommend you read two very detailed articles I wrote;  Juice Cleanse and How to Juice Fast. These will go into detail on how to get started, how to prepare, and what you will need to do in order to lose weight by juicing.

  1. U can loose 18 pound easily in 2 weeks

  2. How much could I potentially lose in 2 weeks? I am 5’6″ and weigh 175

  3. How long would i have to juice for to lose 30lbs?

    • It really depends on how much you weigh to begin with and how consistent you are throughout your fast. I’ve seen people lose 30 pounds in as few as 3 weeks.

Don’t sent yourself a time goal, set yourself a weight goal and take it day by day till you reach your goal. I wish you all the best Sel. Keep me posted in your progress. I’m here If you need me! Cheers!

  4. Although I’ve been juicing for some time, I haven’t done a weight loss attempt through just juicing with no solid foods. I’m going to try, though, once I get another juicer to keep at home so I can bring my older juicer to my shop. Having fresh juice for lunch will really help. Right now I just have a centrifugal juicer so if I make it before work, I can’t really keep it fresh until lunchtime.

Thanks for the great posts here on juicing!

  5. I juice kale, spinach, celery, pear, apple and pineapple …. Will this help with weight loss?

  6. The Firefox updated tab comes up everytime i start firefox. What do i do to stop it?

  7. Hi there,
I juiced for 2 weeks straight, but still ate fruit and avocados throughout the day. Problem is I was getting very very light headed. I have naturally low blood pressure. I’d like juice again as I want to lose 5 pounds…but worried about the lightheadedNess. Isn’t this a signal from my body that I’m not meeting it’s nutritional needs?

  8. Hi Donnie,

I’m so glad to have found your site! I’m going to start juicing today. I’m a picky soul, but I’m hoping to find some juice blends I really like . I want to definitely change it up as much as possible but I’m on a really tight budget. Any suggestions on stretching the dollar?

  9. can you add chia seeds or flax seend to the jucies? I plan on jucicing just under a month in hopes to shed 15-20 pounds?

    • Christine, you can add chia and flax to your juices. It’s best to add it in a powdered form though as not to consume any solids during the fast.

  10. My doctor has told me to lose as much as possible before my knee replacement surgery on November 21. This seems like the way to go since my nutrition will be greatly improved by consuming nutrient-dense juice. Are there any communities that I might join to keep me focused? Right now, I am 245 pounds at only 5’5″ tall. I would love to hit 230 by surgery time. Thank you for posting this article.

  11. hi… i m 24 years old and i m 206 pounds and i am on the verge of trying to shed 50 pounds in 8 months…this juicing diet seems to be interesting since theres lots of positive comments.. but then i was wondering.. if i go on a juicing diet of 8 months or till i reach my goal with once a week a cheat day meal and 30 minutes of workout daily , will i be able to lose weight permanently? and will my weight increase rapid if i slowly get back to normal eating but healthy meal maybe a balanced lunch a day after that? please do guide me thank you so much in advance.

    • Jessica, I admire your goal of losing 50 pounds. If you stick with it, you’ll lose it much sooner than 8 months. One thing that I can say is just don’t have a cheat meal. Why would you cheat yourself out of your goal Jessica. Go into it 100% and you’ll see results so much sooner than you think. The weight will stay off if you maintain good eating habits and make healthy choices. I’m always here to help Jessica. Keep me posted and know that I’m here for you. I wish you the best! Cheers!

  12. I’m starting my cleanse today! I had gallbladder surgery in May and have had massive upper abdominal pain ever since. I’ve been to several doctors and had just about every test done and the doctors don’t know what’s wrong. This juice cleanse is my last hope. I’m trying to get to a point where I’m pain free and if I loose some weight in the process, thats great. I’ll keep posting and let you know my progress. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

    • Stephanie, I hope you feel much better. Let the juices work their magic and see if it changes the way you feel. I’m here if you have any questions, keep me posted Stephanie.

      • What if ur “cheat” is just a salad. I have been juicing a week and today I felt I had to eat something my energy was so low. I had a plain salad and felt a lot better. Will this type of thing derail my goals??

        • Chris, no solids! If your energy is low have another juice or do your best to relax and recover. Your body is going through change while you juice so it’s best to let it adjust. Sleep if you can. Having a salad won’t hurt you but it can slow down your weight loss a bit.

  13. hi .

    i start juicing tmrw.

i play tennis for 2 hrs everyday..

i shall juice all day but for dinner can i have a grilled chicken breast with a mean green juice?

will my weight loss be the same as it is without the chicken breast ?

    please advise donnie.

    regards

    rocky

    • Rocky, thanks for the message. You’ll lose weight slower by adding in the chicken breast but if you’re having only the chicken breast it shouldn’t slow you down too much. Have you thought about using protein powder instead? Cheers!

  17. HELP CAN I USE JUST APPLE JUICE GRAPE JUICE v/8 juice smooth help!!! Ms patient need help please. Going threw ms hug please help THANKS

    • You need to get a juicer and make fresh juice with vegetables to get the full benefits. The goal is to eliminate toxins not accumulate them with preservatives etc found in V8 juice and store bought juices. You will miss a lot of macro-nutrients if you dont juice a variety of vegetables and fruit.

  18. Hi , can anybody help me.? I hear the A bloodtypes do much better
with juicing than the B types. The A types are made for juicing and
a raw food diet. Are there any B types who thrife on juicing
and have lost a lot of weight? Would love to hear from you.

  19. Ive lost 14Lbs in 6 days! Thank you so much!

    • What fruit/vegetable blends did you use?

  20. Hi guys, it is my 6th days juicing I lost 5 pounds. I used drink a lot of coffee so in the first 3 days I have a headache but now I feel much better and a lot of energy.
I weight 166 when I start juicing and my goal is 150.
How many day should I stay juicing and just after that what I should eat ?

  21. NOTTHATGIRL

Looking to lose 80 pounds. I started my juicing today! I must say Kale is gross! I made the green machine juice from fat sick and nearly dead. I tell you what, it’s got to be modified or I won’t be able to stomach it LOL!

    • Hi! I noticed I HATED the green drinks and other veggie heavy drinks that included fruits. Try keeping the lemon but cutting out the apple. I LOVED it after I took the apple out.

  22. Hello!! I weight 227 I am 5’2 and I need to lose 60lbs or more. I was going to start juicing in the morning and having Greek yogurt for lunch with another juice and for dinner a salad with some chicken and no fat dressing. Will that help me lose weight? Also I will be walking/jogging 30mins a day. Please give me any advice u have!!! I need help.

    • That sounds like a very good plan Maddie. Just stick with it and make sure you are juicing lots of green leafy vegetables into you juices. Use smaller amounts of fruit that have natural sugars in them than you do vegetables. If you are using a blender to juice, add in a couple handfuls of almonds or blend with egg whites to ensure that you are getting enough protein on your diet. Good Luck!

    • Hi sure that will make you lose weight, I used to weight 217 mi down to 187 in 3 months, so I lost 30 lb.
I started exercising 30 min a day and then 1 hour. It was hard but. That is the price to pay for so many years of self neglect.
I never juice more than one meal once in a while, it was too much for me to do it breakfast lunch and dinner.
So I are breakfast fruit coffe and egg, sometimes bread. (300) calories then I ate like 10 cherries for moring snack, then always had a big salad full of all kinds of vegetables, try low fat dressings or olive oil. With chicken. Dinner again another massive salad.
I haven been hungry at all, all I cut was sugar and no fried food and yes to lots of vegetables and fruits, I did a few meals instead of salad I did mean green but never every day or all mealsi want to try to do it .
You sure will lose weight, but try variety and never be hungry.

  23. Today is day 1 of my 15 day juice fast. I’m a little lite headed and hungry. But I’m looking forward to the payoff. So wish me well…

  24. i am on week 3 and feeling more alive

  25. Hi.I’m planning to start this diet starting from tomorrow.I weigh around 95 kg,how long do in need to stick to this diet to see results?.Any tips?.Thanks a lot.Praying for a miracle.

  26. Hello Donnie.

I wrote not too long ago about my curiousity with starting juice. So I have! I’m on day 3 of juicing and I am shocked that it hasn’t been as difficult as I thought that it would be. I am focusing on health so I didn’t even bother with weighing myself. I just want to feel and be healthier and I’m hoping weight lose just comes along with that. I am doing well and have enjoyed a lot of the recipes and tips on your site. For that, I thank you. I was only going to try 3 days as I thought it would be torture, but I am planning to continue for as long as I can and trying for at least 10 days now. My question for you is about weight lose what a good plan would be for juicing. How long should someone juice at a time if they want to lose weight and get healthy? What would you recommend? 14 days on and 14 off? 10 a month?

  27. Im so confused on where to start! I purchased a Breville Juicer over the weekend and I have no idea where to start or what to do… Do I just begin by making a juice and drink those for my meals for a month? Please Help!

  28. I’m going to start this juice diet Feb 1 I’m so excited I weigh 186 :( and I’m trying to get down to 145 by May hopefully this does wonders

  29. Hi Donnie! After weeks of occasional visits to your website, my non-vegetable-eating family (two teens, spouse and me) took the plunge and we’ve now been juicing for 5 days. We’re learning our likes/dislikes, and also learning how to tone down the taste of some of the vegetables the kids don’t like. Your advice on the different juice machines and recipes has been invaluable.

My spouse and I are interested in losing weight, however since we’re juicing as a family and our teens don’t need to lose weight, we’ve only incorporated the juice for breakfast. As a family we are cutting back on junk food and late night snacking. In your experience, will small changes (one juice for breakfast and cutting back on junk food) like the ones we’ve made enough to see some weight loss?

  30. Ive been juicing for 4 days now! Lost 7 lbs…but I’ve also started doing no carbs jan 1st. Was going to do it for 10 days but have a friends bachlorette party and were doing dinner but I will def juice more in my life now I love it!

  31. Saw the documentary “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead) and both Hubby and myself decided to try a 60 day fast. Our goal is wt loss (both have 50+ to lose), help hypertension, high cholesterol. We are on day 9 of our fast. Our b/p are both excellent. Hubby has lost 12 pounds and I have lost 6 pounds. He is drinking 5 (16ox drinks) and me 4 (16ozdrinks) per day plus water and one morning pure coconut juice. My question is that he continues to loose each day. I have stayed the same 3 days in a row and yesterday gained .8 pound. Am I doing something wrong? I have not had anything else but what is mentioned here. We have done about the same activity level. I was wondering since he is 6 ft 1 inch and I am 5 ft 1, should I be drinking less juice? We are drinking 80 % vegetable to 20% fruit. Thank you.

    • Teresa, don’t focus on matching your husbands weight loss. The weight loss will happen at different frequencies and different spurts for everyone. Make sure you are weighing yourself first thing in the morning after you use the restroom and before you have a juice. Weigh yourself at the same time every day. Your weight will fluctuate throughout the day as you drink and use the restroom. You are doing fine Teresa, just hang in there and don’t focus on the numbers on the scale. Scales have a habit of lying and deceiving us. Focus on how you feel and how your clothes fit. You’ll find that is a much easier way to tell if you are losing weight and feeling better. Stay strong! Keep me posted on your progress Teresa! Cheers!

  32. jolanta

HI Donnie, your website is amazing and your story very motivating!!!
I will start the juice fast on Wednesday , but in general I need to lose 40 pounds to be in a good shape. I will try to update my progress , but I have to admit I am very scared to what the first few days would be like …
    Cheers!

    • Welcome to JOJ Jolanta! Congrats on getting ready to start your juice fast Wednesday! Don’t be scared, not everybody experiences bad detox symptoms. Most people experience very little as far as bad symptoms. My worst symptom was a slight headache going into day 3 and that was fixed with some ibuprofen. Keep me posted. I wish you all the best! Cheers Jolanta!

  33. hello there,
great article you’ve got here and recently I’ve seen fat sick and nearly dead which really pumped me up to juicing, haven’t done it yet though! kind off scared that i might end up going for all the sick food out there when i get hungry between a diet which has happened every time i started one. i really need to lose good 40kgs or 85lbs do you think if i stick to juicing to lose all this weight is a good idea? i mean in one go i won’t have lose skin will i ? I’m 5’7 and weigh 120kgs would like to be around 75-80 kgs! thanks again for such beautiful articles, hope to hear from you soon.
    good-day!

    • Hüseyin, welcome to JOJ. If you stick to juicing I’m positive that you’ll get to the weight you want. If you cheat and start snacking it’s not going to happen. You have to hold yourself accountable and not go for that sick food out there. Remember, hunger is just how your body tells you that it needs nutrients. So when you have juice you will curb that hunger as it’s loaded with all types of nutrients. Cravings are when your mind is telling you to eat out of habit, boredom, or for the enjoyment of it. Once you can differentiate the hunger from the cravings, juicing will be easy! Have a juice when you are hungry and learn to push those cravings away! Keep me posted on how things go Hüseyin! I’m always here if you have questions or need support. I wish you all the best this New Year! Cheers!

      • im concerned about the heardaches

        • Crystal, there’s no reason to be concerned about them. The majority of people either don’t get headaches or have very slight headaches that are taken care of with ibuprofen or tylenol.

  34. Hi Donnie, completed my first juice fast day, although had to break with a avocado salad and carrots as my stomach pains were killing me so thought if I break up juice with a salad dinner may feel little better which I did, haven’t had great night sleep on first night though will have to resort to some sleeping tabs tomorrow. I’ve got work 12 hour shifts over weekend 6-6 won’t have anytime to juice apart from the morning and I haven’t got any containers to store in through out the day(will have to get them next week) I was thinking of juicing for breakfast and eating lots of salad greens and fruit throughout the day, do you think that would be fine.

    Thanks
Much respect and happy new year
    Daniel

    • Daniel, if you juiced in the morning and then kept your meals limited to fresh fruits and veggies you should do fine. It’s also okay to include a lean protein such as a chicken breast or lean beef in one of your meals. You’ll still go through detox and lose weight, just at a slower pace. Happy New Year to you too! Keep me posted on how things go. Cheers!

  35. Hi donnie, I am interested in starting juicing fast in the new year, I weigh 305lbs over last year I’ve put on over 20kgs which I had lost previously through dieting and gym, I was looking into juicing to give me a good head start and a boost to get me back into routine. Although I am worried a bit about maybe losing weight too fast and having to deal with excess skin. What would you suggest 7/14 day fast first time round to give my body a boost also working out during this time 3-4times a week. Or just stick to my normal workout routine.
Look forward to hearing from you.
    Your real inspiration
    Much respect from uk
    Dan

    • Daniel, if you lose weight the right way, your body will adapt and your skin will adjust. Give yourself a good 14 day fast and then re-evaluate things and go from there. As far as workouts go, it’s best to let your body rest and recover during the first 3-5 days as you’ll be going through detox. Just rest, let your body heal, and then feel free to get back at your workouts. Just listen to your body and don’t push yourself too hard Daniel. Keep me posted and let me know how things work out for you. I’m always here if you have questions. Cheers!

  36. I’m starting this juicing thing and I wanted to know what kind of juice should I have before a workout? Like I wake up at 0430, drink warm water and lemon..how long should I wait before I drink a juice then workout? After the work out I drink another juice and then around lunch, 2pm, 5:30pm, go for another work out, come home and drink my last drink is this okay? I am trying to get a schedule together so I know what I’m doing everyday and what stuff to purchase so I don’t waste any food.

    • Tiffany, you can have your juice as early as you like and then workout within the hour. Another thing you can do is have 8 ounces of water and lemon, and then 8-12 ounces of juice. I usually have my water and lemon right when I wake up. After that I go about my morning, take a shower, get dressed, etc. and then have my morning juice.

The best thing to do when trying to setup your schedule is to not think about it as a routine. Just have a juice when you get hungry. It’s all about listening to your body. If you force yourself to have a juice when you aren’t hungry then that’s not going help you. I find that I usually get hungry within 2-4 hours after a juice. Once I get hungry I just have a juice. Don’t say to yourself “I have to have a juice at this time every day”. Just listen to your body, it will tell you when it’s hungry. You will probably go through 4-6 juices per day Tiffany, so plan on making some to take with you if you are out and about.

Keep me posted and let me know how it goes Tiffany. I’m always here if you have questions. I wish you all the best!

  37. Hey Donnie!

  38. I have been juicing for 8 weeks now. I did the 7lbs in 7 days to start and lost 11lbs and have continued with the turbo boost for the rest of the time. I have so far lost 30lbs and people tell me I look 10 years younger and I feel amazing! This has truly changed my life and approach to eating. Many thanks!

    • That’s fantastic Suemcr! Congrats on all of your success! I bet you feel a hundred times better as opposed to before your fast! It’s amazing how much of a difference healthy eating can make. I wish you all the best!

  39. Hi, I want to start the juice diet on Monday. How many days would you advise me to do for my first juice diet? 3, 5 or 7? Can I choose from any of the juice recipes?

  40. Would adding honey to sweeten be ok? or could that be counterproductive?

    • I think that would be counterproductive.
If you want to sweeten it, just use fruit.
I find red grapes really sweetens things up.

      • Red grapes are great to sweeten up a juice. But remember not to sweeten it up too much. You still want to keep your juices about 80% veggie.

  41. I am actually thankful to the owner of this website who has
shared this great article at here.

  42. I’m currently on a juice fast. Is maca powder a bad idea to put in the juice? It’s fiber I think. Would that be counter productive? I also put spirulina in the juice.

  43. Hello,
I was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome about 2 years ago and have gained about 40 pounds. I was introduced to the idea of a juice fast through Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. I am starting my 60 juice fast on Tuesday and am anxious and excited to see what will happen! I am hoping I see some of the effects others say they experienced, mainly weight loss and clearer skin. I feel like I have done enough research and am prepared but I am still nervous I am going to do something to mess up my results! From what I understand it is better to only drink juice and not eat anything even if it is raw vegetables? I have read basically all of your website and it has been an excellent tool! If there is anything else you (or anyone else reading this) can offer I would gladly appreciate it! I also am nervous if I do lose weight that I will gain it back as soon as I stop juicing and eating whole foods again. Thank you again keep up the great job on the website!!

    -Alyssa

  44. Hey
I am currently on my second day of the Juice fast. Loving it so far, the juice recipes taste great and no bad side effects so far, simply a mild head ache in the morning. I do have a couple concerns though.
I read another article by Ron Kennedy, M.D. called Juice Fasting Therapy. Therein he advocates for a colon cleanse on the 2nd day of a Juice fast, saying it is very important as residue not being pushed out by incoming solids will contribute more toxicity to your body. Now I am definitely not a fan of doing an enema, especially for 3 days in a row as he suggests. Do you think this is truly important?
Another thing he mentioned was ensuring the water is steam distilled. I just use tap water and cannot afford to buy my water. Will this have a weighted effect on my results or probably not?

    • LeeLee, while I’m not a doctor like Ron Kennedy, I’ve talked with plenty of medical professionals on the topic of colon cleanses during your juice fast. It’s really up to you if you want to do it as I find some say it’s not necessary while others say you should. I’ve never done it but it’s not going to hurt your fast if you do choose to do it. So it’s really your decision.

As far as the water, distilled water won’t have any of the chemicals that tap water has but like you, I just have tap water when I want.

The bottom line is that both the colon cleanse and the quality of water you chose will have a very minimal effect on the weight you lose and the health you gain while on your fast. Both are your choices to make LeeLee. I’m here if you have any questions.

  45. Hello
I started juicing this week, but I am eating brown rice with vegetables at dinner time, is it ok? Will I get the benefits too? Or should I skip eating solids for a whole week and eat the vegetables and rice after that week.
    MC

    • Mariamalia, if you want to do a juice fast you need to keep it 100% just juice. When you add solids into the mix you are no longer fasting. While it’s great to incorporate juicing into your diet you’d get more benefits by going full juice. Juicing works by allowing your digestive system to rest. See, juice is absorbed into your system instead of digested. Your digestive system gets to rest, cleanse, and detox while you juice. When you add solids into the mix you are not allowing your digestive system that time to rest and cleanse.

Skip the solids for a week and then stick to a healthy diet of raw fruits and vegetables for a while. Let me know if you have any questions Mariamalia.

  46. Donnie, I am on day 13 of juice fast and my weight loss has stalled past couple of days. Lost 12 lbs and past few days nothing more. Thought I wasn’t drinking enough water but no more drop in weight when added more water. What can I do to up my weight loss again? Still want to loss 30 more lbs. Is it beneficial to eat a few days? I realize my body is probably in protection mode and holding on to the weight.

  47. Hi Donnie,

First of all, I love your website! Today I started Day 4 of my juice fast and I’ve already lost 9 lbs! Ok, totally expected since I have a LOT (100+) to lose – but that doesn’t concern me. Hard to put into words, but after raising an awesome daughter as a single mom, making sure she was always eating the healthiest (she’s very athletic and now, a top XC runner in the state), and with college on the horizon, these past couple of months have made me think again that after 22 years, I would be on my own an what do I want to do? Of course, the #1 thing on my list was not only that I really wanted to get back in shape, because I used speed walk and hike all of the time and really loved it, but I wanted my body to be the healthiest from the inside/out also. I’ve detoxed over the years because around 13 years ago, I had to go on nuking doses of prednisone (nasty drug) and it really messed my system up. I tried detoxing for so many years and have gone to my Naturopath, but nothing has really helped. Thankfully, I took some comprehensive blood work a couple of months ago only to find out that my system wasn’t in that bad of condition: cholesterol just a little above normal with Adrenal function and D3 pretty low, which was raised with supplements. I guess the years have just flown by and instead of speeding or hiking along awesome trails, my trails were to school, to work, back to school, taking her everywhere with her athletics and academics, sending her to private school, working a ton…etc! (It happens, right? :) ) I’m an extremely healthy cook, and I love eating healthy food, that’s not the problem… I guess it’s just that I’ve been blown around by years of activities and looking at how great and balanced I can raise my daughter (and she’s amazing) and never really practiced what I preached! It was fun, but time to get off that roller-coaster and concentrate on me also! :)

Anyway, I had previously juiced on and off with her a few years back so much so that we ran through 3 juicer motors! We LOVE juicing – (our favorite: beets, carrots, Granny Smith Apple & LOTS of ginger!) But, I never went on a juice fast. Anyway, about 2 weeks ago, when I was reflecting on how I was going to attack my #1 future goal after seeing my swollen ankles (not pretty), (I downplayed it to everyone else saying that I had sprained my ankle) but I KNEW I needed to Detox, but I needed to do it differently. After months of studying foods, deciding to go non-GMO wherever I could, quitting aspartame except for that VERY RARE diet soda….I thought about it and remembered that I loved and felt great when juicing – so I started reading up on it again and how people lost weight with juicing. (Actually, I thought about it 6 months ago but bought an expensive ‘juicing blender’ (NOT!) – and when I tried the first batch, hated the taste of all of the fiber in my drink! Not the same! ) So, I went out and bought a great juicer w/ ~2500 rpm and started reading your website along with a couple of others and got really inspired and was armed with great information and decided to do the full fast. (That was different from the past and sure to work if I just stayed focused!) Next, I headed to our favorite store, Whole Foods to get some Organic Produce and started on Labor Day, 9/2 – I mean, I have been ‘laboring’ over everyone else and everything for a VERY long time…it just seemed perfect!

Today is my 4th day and up until now, everything has been going great! Ankle swelling is almost gone!  Full of energy, very little hunger pangs…if I feel it, I just take a sip of my juice. On Labor day, I made some mini muffins made out of the pulp and Quinoa flour and other healthy ingredients (no sugar) for my daughter for breakfast or during the day .. and “I ok’d 1 in am & 1 in pm only IF I got hungry”. (I didn’t want to munch on anything else to derail my master plan!) I’m keeping a journal of my progress and this time, my favorite and daily juice combo consists of: beet, carrot, GS apple, lots of ginger, kale, spinach, broccoli, parsley, mint, collard greens, lemon and key lime! OK, so true confession….I never had the nerve to try a totally green drink (they looked so yucky…algae-ish!)… but last night, I got the nerve and decided that no matter what, I was going to drink it all….turns out I loved it! (Only green veggies and green apple, lemon and ginger – great combo!!)This is funny, but I made this drink and sipped it while making 6 dozen brownies for the XC team’s dinner….and didn’t even want a taste! :) I’m sort of sad though….I loved black coffee with ½ pkt of Stevia (quit aspartame at the beginning of the year)…now, not only do I not need the caffeine kick (I’m full of energy), but just taking a sip doesn’t even taste good! I’m not sad though because I replaced it with1 cup of ‘Zen’ green tea – (“Zen” what a better tea for the moment?…I know…it probably has caffeine and I’ll replace it by the weekend if I can find that awesome decaf green tea from Tibet…but I’m not trying to deprive my system, I’m trying to stay with the plan and feel great about choices ….cause I have to remember that this is going to be a long road, but it’s MY journey now!)

So, that’s me in a nutshell! (Sorry about the novel, but I guess the words just kept flowing! :) )

    KT

(P.S. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your info regarding how you prep in gallon-size bags! Totally helpful and saves me a LOT of time! Also, thank you again for having this site with tons of information, tips and inspiring information that keep me inspired!)

    • KT, welcome to JOJ and thank you for your comment! It’s great that you are taking the necessary steps to get your health back in order. We often get so tied up in life and tend to take care of everything else and everybody else except ourselves. I’m glad you are doing so well on your fast. Stick to it and things will only get better for you. I’m going to have to try your beet/carrot/apple/ginger recipe as I love all those ingredients. I’ve always found it amazing how good the juices taste. At first I though they were going to be hard to get down but I found it was the opposite. After a few days I was craving the juices and couldn’t wait to try out new recipes.

Keep yourself inspired and motivated, and you will have a fantastic juice fast with really great results. Good job on staying away from those brownies! If you can get by those temptations you can get by anything! Please keep me posted on how things go for you KT. I’m always here if you have any questions!

      • Thanks so much! It’s so true…what a whirlwind! Traveling over the weekend and found an amazing Juice bar to keep me on the fast. Tried wheatgrass for the 1st time followed by a green juice combo adding extra lemon and ginger….TOTALLY wired! Seriously, I just finished Day 5 and couldn’t feel better! My daughter’s been taking a spoon of chia seeds to hydrate for races, so this am, I tried it too (for fiber) and protein and just because they’re so darn good for you. Followed it up with a large glass of water – no big deal, so I’ll continue that as well.

Thanks again & I’ll keep you posted!
        KT

        • That’s great Kt! Just remember any fiber in your system will take you out of the fast. While chia seeds are great for you, limit your intake of them.

          • Thanks Donnie! 10th day and loving it! Interesting though – I had heard to have a tsp of chia seeds, but that’s not required? Actually, it’s not a problem because I haven’t been consistent…maybe only 1/2 of the days. So far 15 lbs down! While traveling this past weekend, I found an amazing Juice Bar that had cold pressed juice that could store for a day or two. It was really great – but now I want one of those machines so that I don’t have to make juice daily! It’s working fine, but not waking up at 5am would be great!

            Thanks again!
            KT

          • Congrats on 10 days KT! Chia seeds aren’t required at all. If you want an awesome juicer that will allow you to make your juices ahead of time then take a look at this one on amazon:

            http://rcm-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/cm?lt1=_blank&bc1=000000&IS2=1&bg1=FFFFFF&fc1=000000&lc1=0000FF&t=jus033-20&o=1&p=8&l=as4&m=amazon&f=ifr&ref=ss_til&asins=B00DDJJKO2

It’s an upright slow juicer. It yields more juice and better quality of juice too. I’m sure you will love this one! Enjoy.

    Hi Donnie

I love your website extremely informative. I live a healthy and fit lifestyle. My husband is a professional bodybuilder and I competed once before. I always encounter some sort of obstacle when close to my fitness goal so decided to give juicing a try. I love fruits and veggies however I have a concern is there any possibility of becoming sick when I commence to juice? It is officially my first day and I already had a juice at noon, aiming for my next one every 3 hrs. I felt a little strange earlier lightheaded and weird for a brief moment.

    • Madeline, welcome to JOJ and congrats on starting your juice fast! Since you’ve been very healthy I doubt you’ll experience any sickness related symptoms. Make sure you drink plenty of water right after a juice and throughout the day. You may consider adding an unflavored protein isolate to your juices if you work out consistently to ensure you maintain muscle mass. Just have a juice whenever you feel hungry. Listen to your body and keep me updated on your status. I’m here if you have any questions.

  49. I am coming close to the end of my 14 day fast. I have lost 12 pounds at this point on day 10 but my goal is to lose a total of 30-40 pounds. I have really been wanting to eat solid food for the last couple of days and am looking forward to eating again. I am planning on eating for about a week or 10 days and then starting a 7 day juice fast and then eating for a few days and then doing a 7 day juice fast and so on and so forth until I reach my goal weight. Do you think my body will respond in this manner of fasting then eating then fasting? If it makes more sense to do another 14 day fast after I eat solids for a week or so then I guess I would give that a try again but after the end of day 9 it started getting difficult for me and I am cranky at my husband every time he eats. Let me know what you think.

    • Alethadan, if you have a goal in mind, you’re best to just juice until you hit that goal. I think it would be good if you juiced until you got within 10 pounds of your goal and them started to add in fresh fruits and veggies. This will help you continue losing weight while eating solids. It will also help you to maintain your weight once you reach your goal. Congrats on your success this far, you are doing really good! Keep up the good juicing!

  50. Hi, love your website! I am ready to start with my joking, I would like to lose weight primarily and I really need to gain energy and good sleeping routine. So, hopefully I will get there… Anyway, my burning question is if is good for me to supplementary drink spirulina powder while juicing fasting. I think I might get anemic pretty quickly (maybe I am already being). Will I still gets all the benefits from juicing and lose weight while adding spirulina?
Thanks a lot for answering and for all your work!

  51. I’ve tried a juicing fast 2x before, once my electricity went down around day 3 or 4 from a hurricane and was out for a week. The other time I was a few days in and my wife wanted to try it and quit after a day and ordered this incredible Pizza and I failed once again :(

Anyways I started again yesterday with 2 weeks as my goal. I went in this time with a much better and lower daily calorie intake and it doesn’t seem as bad so far. One of my biggest challenges is having a busy schedule and making juice 3x a day and cleaning up as well. Is it ok to subsidize fresh home made juice with all natural green juice in a bottle?

    • to clarify, I’m talking about green juices sold at supermarkets.

    • Chico, you can’t use pre made juice out of a bottle due to the pasteurizing process. It kills off most of the nutrition. Some times it’s best to make your juices ahead of time. Try making a few in the morning so you have some for those busy days. I’m here if you have any questions.

  52. Due to massive liquid intake, will it trigger loose bowel movement? I am not at home most of the time, will it give me a hard time?

    • Jan, juice is absorbed and not digested. Any bowel movements you have will be mostly comprised of what was already in your system before you started your juice fast.

  53. Hi,

I am in the southern hemisphere and cucmbers are USD 8$ EACH AT THE MOMENT, so thats a lot of money per week.

The majority of recipes on this website use 1 cucmber per recipe! Have you got any alternative options to cucumber? Or more recipes without cucmbers in them?

    Thanks heaps.

    Abi

  54. Hi I have been juicing now for 8 days and lost 11lb already but still have at least 20lb to go. Just had some bad news today and ended up eating things that I shouldn’t as long as I carry on the diet how will my body react to the excess intake an will I put a lot of weight back on again??

    • Abby, welcome to JOJ and congrats on 8 days of juicing and 11 pounds lost! Sorry you heard some bad news today. Hop back on your fast and forget you ate anything. It will pass and you’ll be fine. Just don’t make a habit of it. Juice like normal and you’re body will work it’s magic. Hope all is alright Abby, keep me posted and know that I’m always here if you need me.

  55. Hi Donnie

I am planning to do the 7 day juice although I only eat fruit maybe once a year and veggies less often. Can i have a packet of cup a soup during the day?

    • Roeleen, welcome to JOJ! You can only have the juice that you make while on the fast. Now, you can get creative and make some fine soups out of your juices. Just heat them up and enjoy warm. But don’t have anything that doesn’t come out of your juicer. I’m here if you have any questions.

  56. Hey Donnie! I am looking forward to starting the juicing fast, but before I do I have a question for you. I am a young mother and I am basically just looking to lose at most 15 pounds. Mainly the “baby weight” so to speak. my question is do you have to be over weight for this to be an effective way to lose weight? I ask because even though I am not happy with the way my body looks, I’m not overweight. Also while on the juice fast are you aloud to drink water throughout the day along with the juice? Or strictly just the juice to be effective?

    • Welcome to JOJ Kassie! You don’t have to be overweight to slim down a bit. You can drink as much water as you like. Water helps speed up the effects and it keeps your system hydrated. Make sure after a juice you do drink a glass of water as it helps to dilute the juice and speeds up the absorption process.

  57. Hi, I was wondering if watermellon is the one fruit that can be eaten? My mom doesn’t want me to just juice, but I’m wanting to loose at least 15-20 lbs. So to apease her and eat something, is watermellon ok? Thanks!!

    • Leauphaun, if your intention is to lose weight and gain health with full juice fast then you can’t eat any solids. You have to let your digestive system take a rest. Juice is absorbed and not digested so when you throw any solid into the mix, you are activating your digestive system and taking yourself out of the fast. I encourage you to present the info on the site to your mother and go over it with her. I’m always here if you or your mother have any questions.

      • That’s what I thought. Ah, it was worth a shot!

It’s more like since I have TMJ, I need to “chew” on something or else I have the possibility of having problems with my jaw from not using it. But I acutally found something that replaces the chewing motion, so I don’t need to eat something to chew. Thanks so much!!

        • You can chew sugar free gum. It will help with chewing aspect of it. Good luck and keep me posted.

  58. Donnie i think u have missed the part where i asked u about juicing while travelling.. I would b greatful if u plz reply my this query as well..
    Thanx for all the help
    Stay blessed

    • Farheen, when you travel you may have trouble if you don’t have access to your juicer. If you can’t juice the best thing to do would be to only eat fresh fruits and veggies throughout your stay and ten hop back on your fast as soon as you can.

  59. One more thing donnie how to juice mango i tried but it wasnt a succes.. I hv completed my third day without any prb.. But weight loss is not too mch jst 1 1/2 kg .. Is this bcs i hv already lost 25 lbs and these are the toughest pounds i am working on..?? During first two days i wasnt feeling hungry at all but today hunger is striking again and again.. But i wont gv up.. Will the love handles go wd this juicing as i am not working out with this juicing regime..as after 15 days my hubby is cmng bk and i wanna look sexy..

    • Farheen, make sure you peel the mango and they should juice just fine. You can exercise if you like just don’t push yourself too much. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water and plenty of juice and the weight will go.

  60. Hi donnie!! Hope u r doing gr8.. Sorry to bother u with the bombartment of my questions.. I am doing gr8 with jucing and loving it.. Succesfully gone through the second day and today is the third day.. The question is i might travell to dubai this weekend and dont wNt to quit on the juicing.. How can i manage as i would be residing in a hotel and mainly going for shopping only for four days..how can i manage it there??

  61. And how much weight do you think i can lose if i do it for 3 months?

    • Angie, if you juiced for three months you may possibly lose between 60-100 pounds (4-7st). As far as side effects there’s not really much besides the typical side effects. I wouldn’t go longer than than 100 days though. I wish you the best of luck on your goal and please keep me posted Angie.

  62. hi i was wondering if there are any side effects if i try juicing for 3 months continuously without eating any kind of solid food?

  63. I am going to start the seven day juice fast tomorrow. I work about about 4 days a week, heavy lifting. should i change my work out routine?

    • Marcus, thank for your comment. You should take it easy for the first few days of your fast until you get through the detox phase. But if you’re feeling fine then go for it.

  64. I have been juicing for 3 days now and have only had toilet action twice! What should I be doing to help rid myself of the toxins?

    • Sorry for the delay in my response Renee, my spam catcher went wild over the past few days… It’s normal after a few days to not have any more bowel movements since you’re not eating or digesting anything. Anything that did come out was stuff that was already in your system prior to your juice fast. Most of the toxins will come out through your urine. Just keep doing what you’re doing and you’ll be great. I’ll be here if you have any questions.

  65. After exploring a handful of the blog articles on your website, I truly like your way of writing a blog.
I added it to my bookmark site list and will be checking back soon.

Please visit my website too and let me know what you think.

    • Libby, thank you, I’m glad you enjoy the site! I didn’t realize there were so many teeth whitening tricks out there. Thanks!

  66. I just bought a juicer and I wanted to know for the 7 days is that all I can drink

    • Jass, thanks for your comment. It’s best to have between 4-5 juices that are between 16-20 ounces each. Make sure you are drinking only the juice that you make. No solids! I’ll be here if you have questions.

  67. Hello to all , well first of all I would need a load of support from now..I am planning to go on a juice fast from tomorrow , basically I have to lose around 75-80 pounds ! Precisely I had 70 in my mind earlier but now I have a little more in my brain . Very precisely , my marriage is coming up in the 10th of December and within at least 3 months I got to lose all my weight , tone up and look absolutely opposite to what I look today (some people on my ring ceremony ended up saying I look older to my guy – it’s a love marriage ) anyways our community is full of sick narrow minded illiterates . Whatever so I am going on a plain juice fast from tomorrow . Will be exercising too ( I need to lose a lot of weight and tone up too ) green tea I will have it , I love green tea besides I live in Assam ( quite famous for teas) . All I want is real good ideas and also if I good have salad for lunch , a small bowl ! I need to look good and start feeling good about myself too… Just wanting support and a heads up plan !!!

    • Radhika, thanks for your comment. I’ll do my best to help you through your fast and get you ready for your wedding. It’s important that you stick to the fast and only have the juices that you make. No solids including salads.

You should log into the forum and make a post so everyone can chime in and help to motivate you.

      http://Www.justonjuice.com/forum

You would be best to pick the 3 day plan and keep repeating it until you hit your weight goal. It’s easy to follow and you’ll succeed if you stick to it! You can do this Radhika! I’ll be here every step of the way to help you!

  68. Hi Donnie,
I have been juicing for 5 days now, and I feel great so far. Thanks so much for all your helpful hints and ideas and recipes!!!

My questions concern the veggies and fruits I juice that are dense in oxalates and/or goitrogens, because I have hypothyroidism and am on Armour 45mg daily for it.
I have included raw kale, spinach, broccoli, chard, beets and greens and parsley and more daily. I feel no ill effects at all from it – feel fine and energetic.
Do you think using these daily will adversely affect my thyroid production?

    Thanks for your input!
    Bonnie

    • Bonnie, I’m glad you found the site helpful. Thanks for your comment!

As far as your thyroid production I don’t think they would have any adverse affects but it would be best to follow up with your doctor in case he/she may want to test you and change your dosage. I always recommend that people keep up to date with their doctors and let them know they are juicing when on a prescription medication. You have been juicing for 5 days and feel no bad effects from it, and you’re feeling fine and energetic so just keep doing what your doing and make an appointment with your doc. Keep me posted Bonnie, I’ll be here if you have any questions.

  69. Yaaaay! That’s great news. Now I don’t have to feel left out for the holiday! Enjoy your holiday weekend!
    Thanks

  70. Hey Donnie,
I just started the 14 day juice fast yesterday. I guess my timing was bad because the 4th of July is tomorrow! I was wondering if it would be OK to continue juicing during the holiday and just eat one salad for tomorrow? After that, I will return juicing for the remainder of the cleanse.
    Thanks

    • Annette, thanks for your comment! I think you’ll be fine as long as you stick to raw veggies and fruits for the day and then hop back into your fast as soon as you can. Still try to juice throughout the day so you’re body stays adjusted to the juice. You’ll be fine Annette, I’ll be here if you need me.

  71. Hey, I’m on day 3 of juicing and I’m still going to the toilet as frequently as I should, and right now I only have fruits in my house that I can juice, I juice about 3 times a day, will this still have the same weight loss effect on me?

    • Lulu, you should get some veggies. Juicing only fruit wont work as well. You need veggies to ensure you are getting the proper nutrition throughout your fast.

  72. I have lost 18 pounds while juice fasting, but I have noticed my body fat percentage keeps going up. Why is this?

    • Jason, that doesn’t make any sense at all? How are you measuring your body fat?

      • I am using a scale that has an electronic bioimpedence analysis feature on it.

        • I have a scale that measures body fat but I learned not to rely on its reading. The reading varied a lot. To get a successful reading that way you’ll have to not eat 4 hours prior to hopping on the scale and you’ll have to refrain from any exercise for 12 hours before hopping on. Here’s an article that states how to accurately measure your body fat percentage.

          http://m.wikihow.com/Calculate-Body-Fat-Percentage-Accurately

  73. Thanks Donnie! I was just so surprised because I didn’t know you can build muscle so quickly after only 4 days of working out haha. Thanks for the feedback!

    • Ashley, when you work out, you are ripping and damaging your muscles. They start to rebuild immediately when you give them the nutrients to do so. It’s helpful to add more spinach/kale/romaine to your juices directly after you work out. Have a juice right when you finish to help the process.

  74. Hi I did the fast for 7 days and started to include solids in my diet. I’ve started worked out as well. It’s been a week since I’ve completed the fast and I’ve noticed I’ve gained about 4 lbs since then and I’ve been eating vegetables and drinking water. Is this likely to happen? Fast weight gain from just eating fruits and vegetables after a juice fast?

    • Ashley, congrats on doing 7 days. Remember, when you start working out you are building muscle mass. That’s gaining muscle, it’s a good thing and it’s healthy weight. Keep doing what you’re doing and you’ll see good results.

  75. I think I already consume less calories than I would on the juice diet and still don’t lose weight. Do you think the juice diet is worth me trying? Even if I would be consuming more calories?

    • Rach, I’m sure you will lose weight on the fast, most people don’t understand how to count calories when on the fast.

Most juices are between 150-225 calories. You have to exclude the calories from fiber when figuring out you caloric intake.

Also, juicing does not promote weight loss by lowering your caloric intake alone. It creates low toxicity in your system that forces your body to let go of toxins which are stores in fat cells.

Read more on the site to get a better understanding of just how the juice fast works. I’ll be here if you have any questions.

  76. I am in the military and was just recently diagnosed with arthritis. I am 30 years old and after taking the steroids I gained about 50lbs. I go to the gym twice a day and do cardio and strength for about two hours at a time. Will I be able to maintain this energy needed on a juice fast?

    • Jennifer, after you’ve gone through detox you’ll have plenty of energy. The detox period lasts for about 3-5 days. I would go easy on your workouts during those first 3-5 days. If you stick with it, I’m sure you will lose the weight and get down to a more comfortable weight that your happy with. Just stay strong, keep your goals in mind, and focus on maintaining your will power! You will do awesome, I’ll be here if you have any questions Jennifer.

  77. Thanks Donnie!
What a quick response! I appreciate that :)

All that sounds great and that’s what I will do. I am big into working out and eating right but just thought this would be great to get rid of all the bad toxins in my body. Also getting rid of some weight is always a plus :). I could lose 15 to be a my ideal weight, so I look forward to that as well!!

Thanks for all your advice 😉
    Oh, also one more question….
I hear that when you come off your fast eating is hard to adapt to. Is that true? Does your stomach hurt when eating again? Should I just stick with veggies and fruit to eat the first day after cleanse?

    Thanks!
    Liz G.

  78. Hello, so I’m starting my first juice cleanse tomorrow! I bought all my fruits and veggies and ready to go!
The only thing I’m concerned about is feeling dizzy. Am I going to feel like I want to pass out? I know I’ll be getting all my vitamins and nutrients so I’m sure I’ll be fine. I think people who detox the wrong way may feel like that. Any help will be great!

    Thanks!
    Liz G.

    • Liz, you may feel some side effects from the cleanse but those side effects are minimal and usually the strongest thing people experience are cravings and headaches. If you do start to feel lightheaded it may be because you aren’t drinking enough water throughout the day. So make sure you are drinking plenty of water. I recommend having at least 8-16 ounces of water directly after you have a juice. If you do get a headache it’s okay to take tylenol or ibuprofen. You can also have an occasional tea.

Start your day out strong and have some lemon and warm water first thing when you wake up. It will help set the pace throughout the day. Also, don’t think that less is better and less will make you lose weight fast. Make sure you are having between 4-6 juices per day with each being about 16-20 ounces. Do that, drink plenty of water, get some good sleep and the detox part will be through really fast. After the first 3-5 days you’ll get a rush of energy and you’ll start feeling fantastic! Just keep at it, stay focused on your goals, and you’ll do just fine. I’ll be here if you have any questions. Keep me posted Liz!

  79. I love this article. I love making juice with the help of my juicer. Keep posting.

  80. I did a 5 day fast about 3 weeks ago, have gotten back into eating to much and need to get control again, was not hungry on fast,I followed your 7 day plan but only made it through 5 days,I need help on how to eat after my fast, any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

    • Ladybee69, you were so close to going a full week. Hat made you stop? I wrote an article dedicated to eating after the fast. It has some great info on that topic.

      http://www.justonjuice.com/how-to-eat-after-a-fast/

      Hope this helps!

    • Hi Ladybee69!

I was just wondering why you stopped after 5th day? Were you starving or were you just not feeling right?
I am going to attempt my first cleanse tomorrow for 5 days. I didnt want to make my goal too big for my first one so I figured I’d just go with 5. Lol..
In the future I would love to go longer!

      Thanks,
      Liz G.

  81. I’m starting this Monday…wish me luck. The juice recipes look great

    • I wish you the best of luck Grace! You’ll do just fine! I’ll be here if you have questions.

  82. What about protein needs?
