The Juice Diet

The Juice Diet

The Juice Diet

Do you keep hearing about the juice diet? Do you ask yourself what is this new juice diet everyone is raving about? Let me tell you. The juice diet everyone is talking about will help you to detox, cleanse your system, and make you lose weight at a very fast and healthy pace. It will also get you nutritionally fit within a few weeks. Does it sound too good to be true? I’m here to tell you that the juice diet is the real deal.

Countless people have had success with the juice diet. Some have been able to get off their medication, while others have felt more alive than they have in the past ten or even twenty years. The one thing they can all agree on is how effective the juice diet is for losing weight. I lost twenty pounds within the first two weeks and was able to lower my blood pressure to a point where I didn’t need my medication anymore. I dropped two pant sizes and felt really great. My doctor even said he was amazed at how healthy I was when he ran a blood test.

Is The Juice Diet Healthy?

The juice diet is very healthy and safe if done right. It’s a process of running fruits and vegetables through a juicer so you can drink your meal rather than eating it. It sounds tough, only drinking your meals but it really isn’t and becomes second nature. The idea is to load up on the nutritious juice from the fresh fruits and veggies while leaving out the fiber to give your digestive system a break. This creates a low level of toxicity in your system and in turn, your body starts to release toxins and fat. This is where the weight loss comes in since fat is stored in fat cells.

The Juice Diet Assumptions

I often get asked if juicing your fruits and vegetables is as healthy as eating them. The truth is, yes, it’s just as healthy to juice them as it is to eat them. But a typical recipe in the juice diet might call for a cucumber, an apple, some carrots, a big handful of spinach, some celery, and some other ingredients. It would be hard to consume all that at once and you would feel bloated. Imagine trying to eat a meal like that four to six times a day! You will be able to consume more fruit and vegetable juice by juicing as opposed to eating. More juice means more vitamins and nutrients and that is what the juice diet is about.

What about protein? Isn’t it unhealthy to exclude protein from your diet? Yes, it most certainly would be unhealthy to nix protein from your diet. Did you know that vegetables such as kale, spinach, romaine lettuce, broccoli, and collards contain a good amount of protein?  There are also some fruits that contain a small amount of protein. Protein doesn’t only come from meats, beans, and nuts. The juice diet accounts for your proteins along with many other healthy vitamins and nutrients.

But wait! You can’t just drink juice, you’ll starve yourself! Not true at all! The juice really does fill you up. It’s not like your drinking a glass of water to simply fill your stomach. On the juice diet you are giving your body a massive amount of vitamins and nutrients each time you juice. After all, hunger is the motivation our bodies use to tell us that we need more nutrients in our body. So when you load up on nutrients with the juice diet, your body is satisfied. It’s your habitual eating that is telling you to eat. Habitual eating is when you eat out of habit. A good example of this is snacking while watching television. You might not be hungry but you are used to eating a snack while watching TV so when you do watch TV, your body says its snack time. You will get over the habitual eating habits when you go on the juice diet.

  2. I love your website, before I found it I was doing smoothies because I was misguided. Ty so much. My question is no coffee?

    • Hi Mary, welcome to JOJ. No coffee unless it’s decaf with no sugar or cream. But that kinda of defeats the purpose of coffee now doesn’t it? Cheers!

  3. A simple filter mask may help you reduce your exposure.
They would drink around three cups a day of this mixture.

Other than this, these devices mainly utilize a specific appliance like stealth dry herb vaporizer to heat the flavored e-liquid into an aerosol mist.

  14. Hello, finish my 10 days on Wednesday 1/15/14. Happy to say lost 13 pounds. Super happy. Now am going to keep going with juicing but only for breakfast and lunch a
and low calorie dinner. Thanks for the support and while keep u updated.

  15. How many calories are you drinking from the juices in the 7 day plan?

    • Trish, calories aren’t something that needs to be taken into consideration during the juice fast. If you must know each juice is roughly between 100-200 calories so that give you a daily consumption based on the 4-6 juices per day of anywhere from 400-1200 calories per day depending on the frequency you juice and what you juice. Cheers!

  16. Hi,

I have been considering trying a juice fast. The idea of a cleansing or rebooting one’s digestive system sounds like a good idea. My question however is what are the toxins that everyone talks about getting released when you do a juice fast. I always read that ‘toxins are released’ but I never see WHAT toxins and what actually releases them. Any thoughts/info you have would be appreciated.

    Many thanks

    • Jason, toxins are stored in fat cells. Toxins are all the bad stuff that we eat that get stored in our body and stored as fat. Toxins can be processed chemicals such as artificial sweeteners or natural ones such as caffeine. There are so many of these toxins. Do a google search on toxins found in food and you’ll get a good idea of what is being stored and released in your system. Cheers!

  17. Hello, one question, would it b ok to drink bottle juice like, tropicana farmstand or naked juice? Thanks

    • Sorry Jennifer, the bottled juices don’t even come close to the juices you’ll make at home. Only use those in a pinch if you are out and don’t have one of your own juices with you. Don’t rely on them to get you through a whole fast. I tried a juice fast for 5 days using nothing but bottled juices and the results weren’t even worth it. Cheers!

  18. Today is day 4. Feeling great. Couldn’t resist and had to weight myself. Super excited to say 5 pounds down, yayyyy. This just motivate me even more.

    • Jennifer, congrats on losing 5 pounds! Way to go!!!! Keep me posted on your progress, it only gets better from here on out! Cheers!

  19. Day 2. Feeling great and positive. Not as much cravings as yesterday. Trying to do 10 days. :-)

  20. Thanks for the answer. Will keep in touch.

  21. Hello, today was my first day. It went really well, I think. :-) just had a lil trouble with my juices being a bit too biter. Made me a sweeter one at dinner. It is bad to drink sweet juices?? The one for dinner I had apples, orange and celery. Thanks snd by the way love your web site.

    • Jennifer, welcome to JOJ and congrats on your first day of juicing! As long as you keep the ratio of 80% veggies and 20% fruits you should be fine. I tend to make my morning juices a little more fruity than my evening juices though but still stick to the 80/20 rule. Cheers!

  22. Hey Donnie and fellow juicers!

This is my first juice fast ( I’m currently on day 5) and I’m still hanging in here. I did some research on it (80 percent veggies/ 20 percent fruits, light exercise etc) but the question on my mind is: have you ever felt so freaking cold and is this normal ?! I’m wrapped up in blankets, extra layers of clothes a lot and I’m also covered in acne ( something I haven’t seen since I was 14) I was thinking of doing 30 but I’m going to take it one day at a time

    • Nicole, welcome to JOJ and congrats on your first juice fast! It’s not uncommon to feel cold or hot during your juice fast. It’s usually a symptom of the detox and will pass within a few days or a week. Keep me posted. I wish you all the best Nicole! Cheers!

  23. Hi! I was wondering do I still take my vitamins?

    • Audra, you don’t have to keep taking them if you don’t want to unless they are prescribed by a doctor in which case you’ll continue to take them. You’ll get more than enough vitamins from the juice :) Cheers!

  24. Can I take weight loss bills while on this diet?

    • Sorry Hoorya, weight loss pills and juicing do not mix. Just stick to the juice and let it work its magic and you’ll do great!

  25. Donnie,
I am starting a 2 week fast before the holidays, and restart after the holidays. My biggest motivator is my BP. It’s the winter and I live in the NorthEast and winters are pretty cold. Is it ok to drink herbal or green tea, unsweetened of course? Can you warm up a juice like soup?
    Thanks.

    • Lissette, it’s fine to drink herbal or green teas. No sweeteners though. Look in the forums under the recipes section. There are a few soup juices that people have posted. You can warm these up and enjoy them just like a soup! Enjoy!

  26. hagerarikat

hello donnie! I’m a mother of 2 and trying to lose 30pd to get to my pre pregnancy weight. i started a juice fast and today is day 4! for some reason i couldn’t control myself and took a taste of my husbands baked potato and a very very tiny piece of my sons chocolate chip cookie. i then ended up making kale chips. i am planning on doing a 15 day fast. how bad this i mess up? and should i add a day to my fast to make up for todays mess up
    thank you

    • Hagerarikat, welcome to JOJ and congrats on day 4 of your juice fast! Just get back to your juice and don’t give in to temptations anymore. Don’t add days or subtract days, just focus on hitting your goal and don’t let cravings get the better of you. You’re strong for starting your fast, be strong in finishing it out now. I wish you all the best! Keep me posted and know that I’m here if you have any questions.

  27. Hey donnie, can you help me with scheduling to when i should be drinking the juices for breakfast, lunch and dinner?

  28. I’m working and I actually really want to try juicing but I shouldn’t eat any solids at all during the fasting, right?
Would it be okay? I mean, I’m afraid I would lose energy while working during the day.

    • Nicole, you are right, no solids during your juice fast. You won’t lose energy, you’ll actually have more energy. Your body takes in nutrients to give you energy. You get loads of nutrients from your juices. You may experience decreased energy during the first few days as your body will be going through detox, but it will go away and you’ll get that big energy spike. I’m here if you have any questions.

  29. I am really thinking about trying this but I would like to know if I could drink 6 12 ounce cups a day and 1 12 ounce cup of whey protein and still loose weight and be healthy?

    • Josiah, you most likely will still continue to lose weight if you do that but the only time I recommend adding additional protein is if your a body builder or lead a very very active lifestyle. Adding protein is good if your main intentions aren’t to lose weight but to gain the health benefits. If you do add protein, use an unflavored protein isolate and simply mix a little into your juices. I’m here if you have any questions Josiah.

  30. Hello,
I’m still attempting to wrap my mind about this diet. I would like to try it but i work outside all day and drink so much water that I get full from just water. Would I still drink the same amount of water and drink the juice at least 3 times a day? Or drink a little less water and replace four bottles of water with the juice? I don’t really eat as it is because of all the water I drink so it would be a struggle. And I can’t cut out too much water because where I’m working at the time Is super hot and I would quickly dehydrate. What do you recommend?

    • Kaela, it’s about listening to your body. You would have a juice when you feel hungry, and have water between your juices. No need to gorge yourself with liquid. You just need to listen to your body and everything will start to fall into place. You should have anywhere from 4-6 juices per day based on when you start to feel hungry. Keep a good amount of water in you and you’ll be fine. Keep me posted and let me know if you have any questions Kaela.

  31. Hi Donnie, I am new to this juicing diet. I bought my juicer machine already. But I have a question do I juice 3 times a day? B,L & D? Or should I have a meal in between?

    • Lily, you should have between 4-6 juices per day. Just listen to your body and have a juice when you feel hungry and you’ll do great! I’m here if you have any questions.

  32. sara

hi would it be ok to fast one week have a week off and then fast again ??

    • If you’re goal is to lose weight then why would you stop after a week Sara? Don’t worry about the temptations of food, I’m sure after 7 days you’ll be hooked on your juice fast once you see the results.

  33. Don, we are on a very tight budget and I never spend $100 a week just for myself…that is expensive! You must have more money than I do if you don’t. lol

    • Sorry Firsttimejuicer, most people don’t realize that juicing isn’t an additional cost but a cost that supplements what they are currently spending to feed themselves with their current eating habits.

But I can see how it could be more expensive when you’re on a tight budget with a family that you still need to feed.

Here’s a few tips that might save you some cash on your produce. I often look for local farmers markets to buy my produce. It’s where farmers get together and sell their produce to the public. There are some really good deals to be had if your town has something like that. Also, look for something called market on the move. They occasionally come through town and allow you to get 60 pounds of produce for $10! Very good deal! When I do go to market on the move I get more than enough to last me for a week all for $10.

I hope you can find your local farmers market or market on the move in your area. Good luck and keep me posted!

  34. hey i was just wondering if you could make say 3 days worth and keep it in the fridge, i dont have a juicer and will be using a friends and it will be inconvenient to go over every single day to make it so i was thinking of making 3 days worth of different recipies at a time

    • Kayla, sorry for the delay in my response. I wouldn’t recommend storing fresh juice that long. I’ve never stored it longer than 8 hours. Some people do make it the night before. Not sure what your budget is but you can get the Hamilton Beach juicer for $50-$60 including shipping.

      http://www.justonjuice.com/juicers

  35. I didn’t know just how expensive juicing is…I spent over $100 and didn’t even get everything I needed and don’t think it will be over a week work of food for just me. wow

    • Firsttimejuicer, juicing isn’t expensive. Its actually very inexpensive. The cost of produce comes out to be between $10-$15 per day. That’s not in addition to your grocery bill, that is your grocery bill.

  36. Don, my over all goal is to be healthy…how long do you fast every other week?

    • Firsttimejuicer, I usually do between 3 and 7 days every other week. It’s very simple to do and keeps your body healthy. The main thing to remember is that you still have to eat healthy when you’re not juicing.

  37. how often should one juice fast..

    • As often as one likes FirsttimeJuicer. I usually like to fast every other week but some people just fast once a year or just once and that’s all. It’s really up to you, what your goals are, and what you wish to achieve by juicing.

  38. Hi Don, when you say juice diet do you mean juice for ever or just a few days fasting? I started juicing today and I am so excited…I just want to feel better have more energy and if I lose some of the 15lbs I need to lose that an added bonus.

    • Firsttimejuicer, obviously juicing is not meant to be a forever thing. Here is what you do… Set your goal and keep your fast going until you hit your goal. Two weeks is great start if you want to lose 15 pounds and have some energy.

  39. Firsttimejuicer, nothing happens to your teeth or your gums during a juice fast.

  40. Hi Don, when you do a juice diet how does your teeth and gums do since our teeth are made for chewing?

  41. What can I substitute for the diet if i do not have access to beets?
    TIA

    • Megan, thanks for you comment. I find replacing beets with carrots is a good trade. You could try a few other things such as romaine lettuce, cabbage, or even pears. Hope this helps, enjoy! I’ll be here if you have any questions Megan!
