"Organic Produce" vs "Conventional Produce"
on: May 27, 2013, 07:27

From what I've read, everyone recommends to use all organic produce while juicing, since you want to absorb as many nutrients as possible and not harmful chemicals. Nonetheless, the immediate cost of organic produce is almost double from the "conventionally" grown produce. Is everyone here using all organic? What would be the to-go-organic musts?

I've heard that soaking your fruits and veggies in vinegar water (one sink full of water to 1/4-1/2 cup of vinegar) helps clean them off and also helps keep them fresher. I've been buying conventional produce and soaking them in vinegar.

I usually buy from the local farmers market when I can. Look around in your town and see where the local farmers gather to sell their produce to the public. You can get some very good deals. One of the local groups even sells 60 pounds of produce for $10.

Even if you can't get a hold of organic, conventional produce will work. Organic tends to yield more juice in some cases and will often give a better taste. But if you soak them like Claire said or clean them really good, the conventional produce will work out just fine.

Yeah, I go to the farmer's market but really can't afford to buy all organic while juicing, it is just too much produce. I use a veggie disinfectant that is diluted also in water and always try to wash everything very well before using it.

I was just wondering how many people were using organic vs conventional.

I've used both, depends on time of the year and what I need to get. I find that conventional is okay for the price if you don't want to shell out the extra cash for organic, and you clean it well.

I'm on the 7th day of my first 10-day juice fast (and feeling wonderful). I've used all organic so far and it has been pretty expensive. The biggest price difference is organic cucumbers, $2.50 each while conventional cucumbers cost 3 for $1, and go on sale for 8 for $1. I'm going to try the vinegar-water soak. Thanks!

Organic can be expensive. I usually get it when it's on sale but sometimes I get conventional. Just make sure you get them clean and they will be fine. If you don't want to soak them, just make sure you take a brush and scrub them really good.

Claire, right soaking the fruits n' Veggies in vinegar really helps i have been doing that after my incident of Food-poisoning...

Well i always Juice Organic Produce where possible but if i find that i cant afford i normally go for conventional so i would say i use both and i haven't noticed the difference in the juice tastes....

Good way to do it Irene. If organic isn't an option or you have a lack of organic produce feel free to get conventional. As with all produce, even organic, just make sure you guys are cleaning it really good.
