Starting 14 day Juice Fast today 6/14
on: June 14, 2013, 18:04

Hello all! I am new and I bought all my goodies (juicer - breville, fruits & veggies) yesterday evening and started this morning bright and early. I work 9-5 M-F so I kinda figured that the best day to start would be Friday so my "crappy" days I can enjoy over the weekend. Just putting it out there and I will be in touch with my status. So far this morning has been good, my tummy is grumbling but that was expected.

Hi Cici! I am new here too and made my first juice this morning. I wasn't sure if I was going to commit to a full juice fast today or just see how it goes. I have a headache and feel hungry. If you want the company, maybe I will join your journey??

Sounds great! Yea I had my lemon/warm water this morning at about 7:30 then my breakfast juice and water. I am a little hungry, but no headache quite yet :). That would be awesome to have company. So what made you start? I wrote my reasoning in my bio, if you have a sec you can take a look.

Thanks! I updated my bio too for anyone interested but basically I am 30 lbs overweight, tired and have severe endometriosis which I would like to try and control with diet and lifestyle rather than hormones and drugs. I had lemon and water and juice at around 8:30am. Am not quite as hungry now as I was an hour ago but I think I will go make myself another juice. I did have some green tea, too. Hope I didn't cause any harm!

Yes exactly, I am about 50lbs overweight I think. I mean technically I would be happy at 160/170 but I SHOULD be about 130/140. I was doing so me serious research yesterday and although we are suppose to detox ourselves from caffeine, I think that a little bit of green tea in the beginning can't hurt. I agree completely with you about drugs and hormones. Another thing I have is irregularity with my cycle. It has been a bunch better going GF/SF/DF but since I was cheating with sugar and dairy, that all went to hell. What juices do you plan on doing today? I did the morning glory for breakfast and the mean green for lunch. I tried to make another drink for work but ran out of time. *sigh* I should be able to make it till 5.

I haven't really used any recipes yet...I just put together a variety of things. The first one was chard, beet, carrot, celery, apple and pear. It was really good although I do really like beets. Right now I just made myself spinach, parsley, carrot and pineapple. It tastes pretty good...just an odd shade of green! Good luck making it thought the day. I am at home as I am recovering from surgery so thought this was a good time to start.

Cici, TiredMama, welcome to JOJ and congrats on starting your juice fasts! It sounds like you are both off to a fantastic start. I'll be here to help in any way I can.

Headaches are common and part of the detox. It's okay to take a tylenol or ibuprofen if you want to. That should help with the headache part.

As far as being hungry goes it's important to understand the differences between hunger and cravings. Hunger is when your body is telling you it needs nutrients. Cravings are when your mind is telling you to eat out of habit based on how you were eating before the fast. You'll find that when you have a juice, the hunger will go away almost instantly because you are loading up with so many nutrients. It's the cravings you have to learn to push aside. They can be brutal. But once you can differentiate the two, you'll have more control over it.

I wish both of you the best of luck! TiredMama, I hope you recover fast from your surgery. Keep a strong mind and you can succeed at this! I'll be here if either of you need me or have questions.

"Willpower is essential to the accomplishment of anything worthwhile." Keep this in mind while on your fast!

I was 212 lbs before I started juicing, today I am 185 lbs and feel better than I did 10 years ago!

Thanks JOJ! Good to know an ibuprofen is okay if needed. I persevered and the headache is going away...probably the green tea helped. It is still there a bit but much better than earlier. I am trying hard to pay attention to what my body (versus my mind) is telling me. Wish me luck as I know that is tough.

Thank you JOJ. Yeah I think it is more cravings than hunger. I will be updating how I am doing and it looks like it is you & me TiredMama. I hope your recovery goes smooth and easy and I look forward to the days ahead.

Well..not so great. I think I jumped in a bit too quickly without preparing my family, or doing enough reading and research myself. So I am reading everything I can, creating a plan, and plan to start for real on Tuesday. I am cooking a lot today for Father's Day feasts and tomorrow is my birthday so it was help set me up for success if I get through the next two days before starting. I am being careful about what I am eating, trying to focus on veggies and fruit, avoiding sugar and reducing caffeine. And I am still juicing a couple of times during the day. I will check back on Tuesday.

Cici, how are you doing??

Any thoughts on using coconut water during a juice fast? I have seen is mentioned in other forums. Any benefit or detriment? Thanks!

Coconut water is fine, make sure it's plain oconut water and not mixed with pineapple or vanilla. Enjoy!

Hello JOJ and TiredMama, I'm doing ok...just ok, I mean I'm staying strictly on it, day 3, but my joints are getting swollen. Kinda like what happens when I have an allergic reaction to what or too much dairy/sugar. I plan to keep going on, make it to at least 7 days, but I'm a little worried as to why my body is freaking out when I haven't ate anything to cause a flare. Any thoughts JOJ?

How long does it take to really remove toxins out of your body? I kinda think my body is freaking out because its cleaning itself out but I was wondering how long that takes.

Good morning everyone. I just returned from a great trip in Austin. Will probably join the juice fast tomorrow and go again one day at a time. I love how juicing gives me energy. Juiced for 30 days and so did my son. We did well. Met up in Austin, he looks great, pants super baggy and mine too. But we still have weight to lose and energy to gain...managed the crazy food out there but now it's time to get back in the groove. Juicing is the easiest thing we know. So will go shopping for fruits and veggies today after work and join you. It gets easier and well worth the prep time. Have a great day. "The will to act to change" one day at a time.

Hi All! I'm currently on Day 6 of my juice fast and looking to make it to 14 days. I've experienced a drop of 10 pounds so far and have a lot more energy. I'm very pleased with the results so far and have some of my friends looking to start juicing.

Some of the toughest parts for me personally have been the cravings. This weekend was packed with celebrations, so all my friends were drinking and enjoying lots of food. I've held strong so far though. Another tough part is the days I have work. I'm not a morning person and the time it takes to make my morning and afternoon juices and cleanup can take a while.

Other than that smooth sailing. I'm very concerned for my diet once I end the fast. I really don't want to fall back into my old ways. Normally when I eat healthy I'll stick with it for a bit, then incorporate a cheat meal, then it'll turn into a cheat day, then the weekends/speical occasions, then every day is a free-for-all.

Cici, you are always removing toxins from your body while on the juice fast. The majority of it happens during the first 3-5 days but still continues on until you start adding toxins back into your body. Keep juicing until you hit your goal and then make sure you go on a healthy diet afterwards and you'll do great!

Corpusmae, glad you got to meet up with your son in Austin. I haven't been to Austin in a while, really great place! Have you started adding exercise into your routine. Some light exercise when you go back to eating solids is a great way to keep healthy and still promote weight loss.

Mannyg, Grats on day 6! 10 Pounds, that's fantastic Mannyg! It sounds like you are doing very well on your juice fast. Mornings were the tough part for me too. Getting up that extra half hour I though would kill me but it helped me get on a better sleep schedule and after my morning juice I was wide awake! Just stick to healthy foods after your fast. A cheat here and there is fine as long as you don't overdue it. A good rule of thumb to keep is to make sure you are eating 80% healthy and then 20% of whatever you like. If you do that mixed with light exercise you'll continue to lose weight and stay healthy.

Yes I have been exercising all along. I didn't gain any weight on my trip. Swam laps yesterday and lots of walking in Austin. Made good food choices for the most part, but found when I didn't, it did absolutely nothing for me, so yes I am continuing on raw food plan and juicing.

Just got back from my specialist check up from 1 month ago. Dr. was super excited with my results. Down 16 pounds, blood pressure at an all time low 110/70, never been that low in my life. The nurse wanted to know what I was doing. Told her about juicing and Joe Cross and your site. Dr. said, with this blood pressure you will live forever, LOL, not sure about that but hey it is definitely better than 160 my highest. He wanted to know what I was juicing, when and what. It is great to go to doctors who will listen and he said, Less medicine for you- Yay! Thanks so much for all the support on this site. I am continuing on and my son is as well. He has lost 25 pounds. Love this lifestyle.
