Goal: 20 pounds
on: May 22, 2013, 18:12

Hello,
I am glad I found this forum because my first thought was to do a digital diary of my journey, but I think this would be much better since being acquainted to others might help me keep on track.

Let me just start by saying that I LOVE fruits and vegetables(yeiii!)! But I also love many other things that aren't good for me or my body (buuuuu!). Last year, around Spring, I kind of, sort of did my first 10 day juice feast, having some smoothies and a salad every couple of days. Even then, I noticed spectacular changes in the lightness of my body, clarity of mind and weight. Now, I have committed to do another juice feast but now I really want to stay on liquids for the whole time.

I am currently 190.4 lbs and I my goal is to loose 20 pounds while juicing. I know this is a tremendous commitment but I know I can do it, and oh, I will.

Today is my first day of juicing and it is my day off work. I had warm water with lemon juice in the morning and then my first juice three hours ago. I am a breakfast person and I am surprised that I am not hungry. I actually feel quite good, maybe because I had like 700 ml of juice followed by 500 ml of water hahaha.

The plan for today will be: keep drinking water, help a friend move, and maybe read at the beach for a while until it is time for my juice. I will try to keep busy to avoid any temptations. Hopefully I won't get any sickness or headaches during the feast, like I did last time.

I am committing to posting everything I DRINK at the end of each day.

Happy juicing, everybody!

Quetxalli, that's a great goal and I bet you lose those 20 pounds within the first 2-3 weeks. You can do this and we will be here to support you! Keep your goal in mind and those cravings in check. If you do get headaches feel free to take some tylenol or ibuprofen. I'm excited to follow your progress! I'll keep checking back.

I was 212 lbs before I started juicing, today I am 185 lbs and feel better than I did 10 years ago!

Thanks JustOnJuice.

Today went by smoothly. I help my friend move and that was a real workout! Lots of stairs and lots of heavy boxes carried from the house to the car and then from the car to the new house. It kept me busy, as I expected and I definitely earned my third juice of the day.

The highlight of the day: cane juice! Real sugarcane juice! We went to a park close to my friend's new house and an old man selling fruit and fresh fruit waters had sugar canes and a huge cane press on which he would insert the sugarcane and he would have to manually turn a wheel to press all the juice out of the cane. It was amazing, given that I had never seen anyone sell this before in my life. Of course I only had a sip because it was pure sugar and I couldn't drink anymore but I was thinking maybe using this juice to sweeten some deserts in the future.

Hopefully tomorrow will be easy-going and fun as today. I plan to do easy yoga in the morning and the off to work.

Have a great night, everybody!

Great write up on your daily activities Quetxalli! I'm definitely going to try out a few of those juices. The sugar cane is interesting but probably way too much sugar. Might be interesting to try that added to a few drinks to see how it affects the taste though. It sounds good! Thanks for the awesome write up! Looking forward to more!

Yeah, I wouldn't drink a whole cup of the sugar cane juice. It would be nice to try it out on juices just as a sweetener.

So far I've liked all my juices, so I would recommend any of them :)

I came back from work with a mild headache from standing in the sun too much (my guess), as part of my job. I had a fun day and no cravings yet, though my mind is playing tricks with me, making me want to stop by a whole wheat bakery near my house. I stopped that nonsense right away.

Have some rest, good night.

Day 2

8:15am 525ml
4 leaves kale
4 leaves of red chard
½ bunch cilantro
1 granny smith apple
1 cucumber
3 stalks celery
1in ginger
1/2 lemon

700ml water

12:30pm 500 ml
6 carrots
1 grapefruit
1in ginger

1L water

3:30pm 750 ml
4 leaves kale
6 leaves of red chard
1/2 bunch parsley
1 granny smith apple
1 gala apple
1 cucumber
3 stalks celery
1in ginger
1/2 lemon

7:00pm 600ml
1/4 medium size papaya
4 oranges
1in ginger

Will probably add more water later tonight.

Total juice intake: ~2.37L (77oz)
Total water intake: ~2L (67oz)

How did you like juicing a papaya. I've only juiced papaya a few times but it turned out good.

It was really good. I am used to the taste of a papaya and orange juice smoothie so it I guess it is familiar to my taste buds. I actually juiced the papaya with the seeds and the peel, since I read that they might have some beneficial vitamins. It didn't taste weird or anything. I will continue to juice the rest of the papaya during the next couple of days.

The peel is usually a great source of vitamins and nutrients. I try to include the peel in most of my juices with the exception of oranges.

Yeah, I also include them in mostly everything but I guess I found it strange to keep it on the papaya because I am not used to.

Today went really great. I woke up with the mild headache but it went away as fast as I had my morning juice. Kept busy throughout the day, had family visiting and the went to my friend's birthday party. In both events, I found that I feel more conformable not telling everyone what I am doing since they might question it and pressure me to eat. I don't know, maybe it's just me but I like to keep to myself.

I don't know if I am drinking enough juice. I read that it varies among people but it should be around a gallon. I drank 2.5L today and couldn't drink the last juice I had prepared since the morning because I didn't fell hungry or in need of a juice. I will have to save that for tomorrow, hopefully it won't get too acidic from the grapefruit on it.

Good night!

Day 3

500 ml water

9:40 am 600 ml
1 head of broccoli
1 gala apple
1 lemon
3 stalks celery
10 leaves spinach

750ml 1:00pm
1/3 of a cantaloupe
¼ of a medium papaya
1/3 of a pineapple
2 oranges

500ml water

3:00pm 600ml
4 leaves kale
½ bunch cilantro
1 handful of spinach
1 gala apple
1 cucumber
3 stalks celery
1 in ginger
½ lemon

500ml water

9:00pm 550 ml
5 carrots
2 celery stalks
1 handful of spinach
1 apple
½ lemon
1 handful of parsley

Total juice intake: ~2.5L
Total water intake: ~2.5L

You are taking in a good amount of juice. You should be taking in no less than 64 ounces which is about 1.9 liters. You may want to spread out how many juices you drink. If you are only drinking 4 juices, you may want to spread that out to 5 or 6 juices. It's just an option to consider but I think you are doing fine. Keep it up, you are doing an awesome job documenting your juice fast! Way to go!

That's a good juice day Quetxalli. I tried to juice a jicama once and it just turned to mush and clogged the juicer. I'll have to try it out in my Hamilton Beach juicer instead of the Bella juicer. I do like the flavor they give. Happy Juicing!

I wasn't very thrilled with the starchy feeling that the jicama left in my green juices, but they were not bad either. I feel like I am getting bored and that is not good. I need to keep in mind my goal, keep focus.

How do you like your juicers? I've looking today into the masticating juicers and people have great reviews. Supposedly, they extract better the juice from the fruits and veggies, specially the green leafs, and there is no air in the liquid so it is supposed to last fresh around 72 hours. They are pretty expensive, though.

Day 5
650ml 10:30 am
3 leaves kale
½ bunch cilantro
4 leaves yellow chard
1 granny smith
1 cucumber
1 small jicama
1 in ginger
½ lemon

500ml 2:00pm
5 carrots
2 gala apples

600ml 5:30pm
5 roma tomatoes
½ serrano pepper
3 stalks celery

150ml 6:00 pm
1 nectarine
1/3 cantaloupe
10 leaves of mint

450ml 9:30pm
1 head broccoli
1 granny smith apple
1/3 pineapple

Total juice intake: ~2.3L
Total water intake: ~2L

Yeah, I've been debating on getting a nice masticating juicer. We used to have one at work. The only thing I didn't like about it was the time it took to juice and cleaning process. Other then that I would love to get one. They are a bit pricey but if you juice daily it's well worth it.

Wow, lucky you! At work?! I just order a manual masticating juicer. I plan to use it just in the greens because I really feel that my breville wastes too much. I'll let you know how it goes.

Day 6

750ml 12:00pm
1 bunch spinach
½ lemon
1 in ginger
½ bunch parsley
3 stalks celery
1 cucumber
3 baby cucumbers
1 granny smith apple

400ml 3:30pm
3 carrots
1 granny smith apple
1 gala apple
1 head broccoli

700ml 6:30pm
1 grapefruit
1 orange
3 stalks celery
1 in ginger

400ml 10:00pm
1 cucumber
1 granny smith apple
1in ginger

Total juice intake: ~2.2L

Quetxalli, yeah, our boss went on a wheat grass thing and decided to bring in one of those industrial masticating juicers. It was great except for the fact no one ever cleaned it and it got gross. One day he just took it home I guess.

Claire, not sure what she was using but you can get a cool banner at http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/63239-weight-loss-banner that will show and track your weight loss.

Claire: I got mine at http://lilyslim.com/ They also have a bunch of pretty ones there.

JOJ: That sucks! I wish in my office would promote healthy eating habits. We are currently working on a nutritional campaign that focus on eating more fruits and veggies and people at the office don't even eat healthy... oh well.

I don't have a detailed report of my consumption today because I was running late and didn't get a chance to write everything down. I had my usual: two 750ml green juices and an orange-grapefruit-pineapple one. I made a broccoli-cantaloupe that tasted good in the morning but when I tried to drink it tonight was disgusting. I decided that if it didn't taste good it wasn't good for me either hahaha

Have a good night!

I have an omega masticating juicer and it really does get all the juice from just about everything, especially greens. The pulp is almost dry. It also has the added benefit of being able to juice wheatgrass. I find that clean up is a snap. Besides the simple plastic pulp/juice containers the juicer has four parts to clean and takes me about three minutes or less to wash them. You can get it for about $225 on the deal. The only downside is a smaller chute so certain veggies need to be quartered and overall it juices a little slower. I make 40 oz. of juice in the morning and from prep to clean up it takes about 20-25 minutes. I could really see how someone could have both kinds depending on how they juice.

Quetxalli, yeah, they promoted healthy eating at my office but didn't really eat all that healthy. It's one thing to promote it, but another to actually follow through with it.

Claire, Half way there!!! Congrats!!!

Jdonuts, I love the Omegas, I've been wanting to get for for a while now. I think I'll just have to bite the bullet and order it.

I am really glad I have made it this far. Today is the 8th day of my cleanse and I haven't given in to any temptation. Actually, it is only a couple of seconds of each day that I think of food. I am relieved that I don't have to plan what to cook, then cook (which takes a lot of time), and then sit down to eat. I know juicing isn't perfect but it is working pretty great for me right now. Today I felt more energized than any other day which makes me really happy. Things are coming together. Thank's for ya'll support! I am here for you too.

End of day 9 and I feel comfort. I don't know whether that is good or bad because I don't feel any changes in my body or metabolism. I wonder if my body still is on a cleanse or if I am as clean as I can be with a lot of weight in.

Good night.
