Day 1 of 30 day cleanse
on: June 23, 2013, 13:52

I have started my 30 day cleanse and I wanted to know if there was a minimum or maximum amount of juice and water I should be consuming per day? I want to lose 30-40 pounds. Is this achievable in just 30 days? Are there any tricks I could use in helping my keep on track? I have a family and I am usually the one that cooks.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you

Hi dpicott! I am on day 5 so I am no expert but definitely the first 2 days were the toughest for me. I also prepare all the family meals and I really have to think about not having a taste of this or that as I am chopping and cooking. Being prepared is the biggest key to success for me....have a plan for both your juices and the family meals. And make your juice first so if you are hungry while cooking you have your juice all ready to go. I don't know about the weight loss part. It probably depends on how much you have to lose. i also have a goal of losing 30-40 lbs and am 5 lbs down after 5 days so far. Good luck!

Dpicott, congrats on your fast! You should take in between 4-5 juices per day each being about 16-20 ounces. As far as tricks to keep you on track try this. Come dinner time, make a juice that's a little spicy with a tomato base. Heat it up, put it in a bowl and use a spoon to eat it. It will be like a soup and give your mind the impression that you are eating. Plus you'll be eating dinner with your family instead of drinking dinner. You could also make some sort of butternut squash soup too. Experiment and try out different soups that will work when you warm them up.

Congrats on 5 pounds and 5 days TiredMama! That is excellent! Great tip on making and drinking your juice first before starting to cook for others. That makes sense.

I love the idea of making a soup, both for the satisfaction of a warm meal and joining the rest of the family with cutlery!! Great tip...thanks!

Yup, enjoy! You can add spices to it also, just don't add salt and you'll be good to go!

Dpicott, All the best in your Juice fast.....We all are here to support each other...I have lost 8.82lbs in 12 days....so i believe shedding 30-40lbs in 30 days is an attainable goal but i would advise to incorporate some light exercises during the 30days walking/jogging for at least an hour 5 times a week. I walk/jog every monday to Friday and i think its working pretty well...Try this.

JOJ, Thanks for the idea of making soup....

Lets Keep Juicing.....

Cheers.

Try out different variations of the soup. You can also juice onions and garlic to add to it. Try this:

4 Tomatoes
1 Large Red Pepper
1 Carrot
2 Celery Stalks
1/4 Onion
1 Garlic Clove
I handful of basil and cilantro
squeeze of lemon to taste, and a sprinkle of pepper, dash of your favorite hot sauce.

Try that out, feel free to add or substitute.

Hello,

I am new to this site, I have digested most of the information here and I began my juice fast on the 25th, so im on day 3 now. I actually began with a fruit fast the day before my juice fast. I am aiming for 30 days but if i can achieve a 14 day fast , i will be thrilled.
Its been good so far, im not so hungry, i had headaches initially but i think they are better. I see the recipes but i do not have access to most of the veggies and fruits so I try to use what i have. Found some kiwis yesterday and i was over the moon :) I live in west Africa so I have to hunt large grocery stores for some of the veggies.
I have been inspired by most of the stories here, i really just want to start all over and improve my eating habits. I believe starting clean is the best way to go. I will be posting messages and looking for support on difficult days. Thanks for starting this forum.

Cheers
Ada

Welcome to JOJ Ada! Don't worry about sticking to close to the recipes. Half the fun is coming up with new recipes and trying out different combinations. If you don't have a certain ingredient, use what you can as a replacement. If you're unsure, let me know what ingredients you have to work with and I'll come up with a few recipes for you.

Day 1 today, June 27th, Thursday. Going for 60. Took off from work until Tuesday next week after reading JOJ's entire site at least twice and wanted to make the commitment to "me." Well, being a big girl, 312.4 today, I figured I would have the broadest spectrum of horrific detox/hunger feelings but so far just a slight headache.

Have 4 glasses of 16 oz juice, got it. Drink at least 64 oz of water (I'm going for 80), got that down to. My problem is the physical act of drinking. Oh, the juices taste great, and the water is refreshing, and after countless #1 trips to the bathroom, I now totally understand every meaning of the word "flush," just having trouble "drinking." Is this odd? I've got 2 juices to go and about 2 glasses of water and the thought of "drinking" isn't appealing...was hoping this was just part of the intro-phase-please say yes!

Other than that, thank you for this site....seriously, THANK YOU!

Aunti-Momo, congrats on starting your juice fast and welcome to JOJ! Great idea with taking some time off to get started. It's helpful to be home and away from some of the temptations that are out there. I also had a hard time with the act of drinking in the beginning but after a few days I was craving the juice and couldn't wait to drink one. Many people experience this and I'm sure you will too.

It sounds like you prepared yourself very well for your juice fast. I'm looking forward to hearing from you often and following your fast. Keep me posted. Also, feel free to take tylenol or ibuprofen for headaches. Stay strong and happy juicing Aunti-Momo! I'll be here if you have any questions or need some motivation.

Christine, Congrats on Day 7....I'm on day 16 and i feel great....lets keep juicing

Ada, welcome on Board...I am from East Africa so you and me have a common problem of not finding some of the ingredients but with me i only don't find them when they are out of stock but most of the time everything is available though at a high price....celery stalks is the veggie that is hard to get as the local celery are a joke and the imported ones are way too expensive.....

Hello Aunti-Momo, welcome to JOJ....

Cheers..

Hmm! it has not been easy today, its day 4 and i can see some changes in my body. I dont crave food but i just want to eat 1 juicy mango. Still pressing on till i reach my goal.

Hello Irene, I find things like celery, parsely pretty easy in large stores, a bit pricey though. My problem is lemons, the imported variety is expensive and like you say the local one is a huge joke.
Yesterdat I saw spinach and added it to my juice for work (I make about 42oz juice for work and keep in it the fridge all day in the office till i drink it all up).

I have carrots, lettuce, celery, ginger, parsely, cucumber, apples, kiwis (a bit)and oranges in abundance ( have been concentrating on this group). Theres also alot of water melons, papaya and pineapples (havent bought or juiced them yet, im not a water melon person at all).

Made a juice with carrot,1 cucmber, 1 apple and a little celery stalk and ginger for breakfast. Have been sipping on it since morning.
Also made somthing with lettuce, spinach, 1 cucmber, 1 kiwi and an apple for lunch (its in the fridge, haven tried it yet but it looks a little bit strange- too green perhaps).

I try to put about 2 oranges in every drin for extra sweetness (cant help it i have a sweet tooth)

Please critque my recipes and let me know if i should mix it up in any other way.

Thank you all, im sooooo grateful:)

Day 2, down 4 lbs. Ew! What a night! Went to bed at 6, nauseated, cramping stomach and headache-only managed to get 3 juices down and 64 oz of water before going to bed. Slept pretty well after 11p. Last juice was your soup idea. That helped with the "drink" problem.

Slight headache and feeling pretty weak & achy...they weren't kidding about the "flu-like symptoms!" Makes me wonder how much less I'd weigh without all this drainage in my nose and head. Forcing the lemon water down this morning it tough-not undoable, but tough. Weird that I am not hungry, but borderline nauseous. I'm still here tho!!! Still here!

Thank you for the support!

Hello all! Day 8 here. I will confess that 2 days ago I had a piece of chicken at lunch time. It didnt taste great and let me tell you how sick I got. Stomach hurt, bathroom business and my pain from fibromyalgia was the worst it's been in a long time. I also has the sweats. It was terrible. Back on juicing right away and feel great again. So can I never eat a meal again!?? Juicing is my friend! I'm so happy to have found you all and I thank my sister for suggesting I juice! Have a juicy day all!

Ada, keep doing what your doing, it sounds like you're doing really well. After a few days I really wanted to bite into a cucumber or an apple. Try this recipe;

1 apple
1 orange
1 inch of ginger
2-4 stalks of celery
1 carrot
1 cucumber
1 handful of spinach

Your recipes sound great, I'll have to try them out!

Aunti-Momo, it sounds like you're still going through detox. It does get better. Lemon and ginger help with nausea and stomach cramps so try to add those to your last drink. You can also drink a night time tea like chamomile to help you sleep. The lemon water is hard for some people. You can also just make a small 8 ounce glass and squeeze a lemon into it. That way it's not a huge amount but enough to get you going.

Christine, congrats on day 8! It sounds like you either had a bad piece of chicken or your body wasn't ready for it. When you do go back to eating solids you don't want to jump right in. Take it easy and eat fruits and veggies for the first few days. You will be able to eat again, you just have to get your body used to it again. For most, this isn't an issue but read this article for when you're ready to start eating again. http://www.justonjuice.com/how-to-eat-after-a-fast/

As always, I'll be here if any of you have questions. Happy Juicing!

HI there,
I'm a newbie to this group but already bought vegs / fruits and a juicer. I am starting the diet as of tomorrow. I am going to keep low on the fruit as I am pre-diabetic but I have a good 40 lbs to lose. I am a 40 year old man. I will keep you posted with my progress here, for my own accountability as well. I have tried many diets in the last 5 years and miserably failed. :(
My wife is supportive but I have two kids with special needs, and the stress pulls me towards the fridge. I am hoping to win this battle, this time! Good luck to you all.

Ed, thanks for your comment and welcome to JOJ! Congrats on deciding to do a juice fast. You'll do more than win this battle, you'll win the whole war! Being pre-diabetic I would suggest only using one fruit and a 1/4-1/2 lemon on your fast. Also, use plenty of produce like spinach, kale, and romaine lettuce as they will provide you with the proteins you'll need.

It's great to have support and motivation while you do your juice fast. It helps to curb those periods where you would normally snack. I put a picture of myself at my worst on the fridge and on the pantry. Anytime I walked by them I saw my picture and it convinced me not to stray off and eat something.

Ed, you'll do great and the benefits will be long lasting. Just keep a strong mind and maintain that will power and determination to accomplish your goals. I'll be here if you have any questions. Also, we are starting a group juice fast on the 1st of July. I'd like you post here http://www.justonjuice.com/forum/justonjuice-forum-group1/group-juice-fasts-forum3/new-3-day-group-juice-fast-starting-monday-july-1st-thread80 and join us! The more motivation, the better!
