After The Fast, Lessons Learned
on: April 25, 2013, 11:52

(Or during the fast if you are continuing on for 7 days or longer)

First, it is okay to feel hunger. Just because I feel hunger does not mean I need to satisfy it right away.

I don't need to eat out of habit or boredom.

I have proven to myself that I di have the willlpower to say no to inappropriate food craving or urges.

“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” ― Hippocrates

I weighed 201 pounds when I started juicing on March 15, 2013. My weight today is now 185 1/2 on 4/21/13.

Those are great lessons to learn John. A few things I can add that I learned during the fast are:

You don't need food to live, you need nutrients!

Your body will heal itself

Juicing will give you the willpower to accomplish great things inlife

"Willpower is essential to the accomplishment of anything worthwhile." Keep this in mind while on your fast!

I was 212 lbs before I started juicing, today I am 185 lbs and feel better than I did 10 years ago!

Juicing was very difficult for me and lasted about two weeks. I thought I would get more moral support from my family and friends but they try to push their process foods my way.

I was happy, moody, upset, angry. My feelings were all over the place. I wished I still had my punching bag it would have come handy at those moments. Juicing works well if you have a nice support system. I did managed to stay focused despite that I was a mess.

You'll get plenty of support here on the forum for your next fast! Just keep your goals in mind and once you come to the understanding that you will go back to eating solids, it's not too hard.

I like how Joe Cross puts it in reference to our eating habits before juicing and during juicing "If you do the crime, you do the time"

Donnie, I don't plan doing meats anytime soon. I gradually went back to solid foods and I've noticed a huge difference - I feel bloated, heavy and my energy went back down. Looks like my body responded well to juicing so I'm going head first back to juicing on Monday 5 -12- 13. I didn't do anything that's fried just baked but again it slowed down my whole body and to be honest, I don't like that feeling at all.

My plan is to drop to 170. I'm currently 180 from 192 before juicing. With the wonderful protein recommendations from you guys, I plan to mostly juice and get a higher amount of protein to get my muscle mass back while keeping myself at 170 so I really have to watch what I eat - I will also have to reduce my cardio to bare zero while doing this. This should jolt my body again to were I was.

Juicing was horrible at first so I'm going to lie about that especially if you were a meat potatoes like I was but this is what I was taught to do to gain weight and muscles - I was careless in what I was putting into my body. That has all changed. I'm a new person and excited about the "Juicing World" This place has become my favorite spot to learn and share with others the benefits of healthy eating and juicing. I have a new vision in life Donnie and that's to share what really works for human!

Awesome Jose! I'm glad you found us! I don't think you'll have much of a problem hitting 170 from 180 while maintaining your muscle mass. Building mass while losing that last 10 pounds may be more of a challenge. Just keep your workouts set on maintaining what you have and you'll reach your goal!

I'm amazed at how I look at all foods now. I used to not really care what I ate or where it came from but after juicing that has all changed.

I feel juicing does plenty for our mental health as well as our physical health. Not only does juicing help to put people on a healthier path, it motivates them in a big way. Keep that desire, motivation and will power, and you can accomplish anything Jose!

I plan to start a juice fast next week since I will be vacationing beginning Thursday and don't want to spend it in the restroom going back on total solid food while away from home. Can you share your experiences about what a person can expect during the cleanse? I would like to know about the highs and lows. And since we are cleaning, does your face break out due to the impurities? Just would like to know what I will experience in 3 days. Thanks in advance!

Duranie, some of the positive things people experience are weight loss, energy, motivation and healthiness! Some of the negative things that some people experience during those 3 days are hunger, headaches, frequent urination, and habitual cravings. It's typical to experience some of those negatives if it's your first fast due to the nature of the detox. But just remember that it's only 3 days and the health benefits surely outweigh the side effects.

I never broke out while on a cleanse and don't know anyone who has but it could be a possibility.

One thing you have to keep in mind is that it's only 3 days! You will go back to eating solids and you will lose weight during your juice fast. You just have to prepare yourself, set your goals, and then stick to it for 3 days. Keep me posted on your progress, I'll be here if you have any questions or just need some motivation!

Cynmarie, I'm glad you are going to start juicing! You can't eat anything, you have to drink juice, and only fresh fruit and veggie juice that you make. If you are in a wedding in June, that gives you plenty of time to lose weight. Juicing does help with excema. Keep me posted Cynmarie!

I started juice only May 5th so I am on day 11. I have been pretty amazed the difference juicing can make. I don't know how long I will do this but I do know that I will need to be in a support setting to discuss things that come up during the fast. Is that the general purpose of this group?

Goldie, congrats on day 11! That's a great accomplishment. I generally suggest to set a goal for your weight or your health and juice until you reach that goal. Start your own thread so people can follow you and see how your doing. I'll check in daily to offer support and motivation. Have a fantastic day Goldie!

Re: After The Fast, Lessons Learned

This has been my very first time juicing. Although, I have tried such other detox methods such as the Master cleanse and various others, I found myself not thrilled with the way I would always feel after I completed them. Therefore, I have given it a lot of thought after watching on Netflix the documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead. I had already made the decision before ever watching that movie to give up on meats and slowly wean off of most dairy products such as milk and ice cream and dedicate my time to continue being a vegetarian/vegan. One of the things that most shocks me about this journey is how much willpower and determination one person can have, when he or she actually wants to succeed. I mean right now I'm in day four of this juice detox and I am already feeling the type of things that people in this forum have discussed such as anger, frustration, fatigued, and serious hunger. Sometimes I'm very happy and then at other times, I just feel all at once upset about something right out of the blue like it just came out of nowhere. For no reason and I will cry, just because I become overly tired and hungry and then I immediately go grab a juice I juiced the night before and drink it to replenish my urge of wanting to eat. In addition, I cannot pretend like this feeling of wanting to eat on this detox has gone away it's still there, like, if it were a ghost haunting me and it is very frustrating to always see others around me, who were supposed to be doing this with me and they are eating any and everything they want. Yeah, I become upset, but not any less motivated. I mean, I figured, I started this and I want to finish it. I had to think about whether not I wanted to go to seven days or 60 days that I seen in the movie, but, I don't know, if I can continue on being that strong, however, just as I did my research before starting this juicing detox, I did my research about motivational forums, then I have found you guys and girls and thought I'd give this a shot before I decided to chew on ice chips. I have gone from 239 pounds to being 227 and I feel, as if, I don't know if I can continue on past the four days that I've currently been on the juice detox because I am just so dang on hungry. I keep thinking about food. I keep on dreaming about food. I keep on thinking of different ways that I can try chop up ice and water in a blender and use that as a reliever. However, I know I cannot eat anything and I'm dedicated to this. I just was wondering, if anyone else has felt the same way that I have felt? I mean, I sometimes feel, as if I was on a boat with five different people. then two people jumped off the boat right when they saw it was sinking. The other two just said, "Oh, we can do this!" Then, we all started out just fine. Then one-by-one, when they felt tired of trying to keep the sinking boat from sinking, long enough for someone to spot us, they too jumped off of the boat. Leaving only one person left keeping that boat afloat. The person is now starting to feel the same way the others felt moments before they jumped over into the water. Now, this person is wondering, if they alone are strong enough to keep the boat from sinking, to provide enough tine for someone to spot them in the sinking boat. Yeah, this is exactly how I feel sometimes. I don't want to throw in the towel. I was wondering if here is anything else I can do to keep my mind off of food? I do exercise each day o Hip Hop Abs, read, walk, and etc., but still I feel hungry. Right now as I write this I feel frustrated and hungry and I already drank loads of water and juice. If there is any advice you can give me tips I can use that will be helpful, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, and best of luck to everyone else who is juicing.

ShineSteinIt, you have lost 12 pounds already in only 4 days! That is a great accomplishment! Congratulations on such an outstanding achievement! You are right how much willpower and determination it takes to maintain a healthy juice fast.

It is very hard in the beginning when you are surrounded by food as that only drives up your cravings and temptations. Do what you can to avoid being put into situations that will cause you stress. When I did my first juice fast I worked at an office that catered in these big expensive lavish lunches every day. I'm not talking about soup and salad either. Steak, shrimp, fancy desserts, and even home made mac n cheese were some of the things that were brought in daily. The hardest part was watching everyone around me eat this stuff on a daily basis. I found it helpful to go on a walk for my lunch, or step outside for some air. Just getting away for a while to focus was very helpful in maintaining my willpower and motivation to keep juicing.

I understand your frustration and it's normal within the first 3-5 days to have your strongest cravings and withdraws. Years of bad eating habits wont just go away over night. While your body is still detoxing, you'll experience a lot of cravings and it helps to understand what those cravings are. Hunger and cravings are two different things. Hunger is how your body tells you that it NEEDS more nutrients. That's all hunger is. It's how your body tells you it needs more nutrients. While your juicing you are loading your body up with nutrients and the juice will quench and control that hunger. Cravings are when your mind tells you it's time to have a snack or it's time to eat something based on how your eating schedule was before you decided to juice or change your diet. Once you can differentiate the two, you have a much better chance of controlling the cravings.

It's hard when people plan to juice with you and don't follow through. But understand that you are juicing for YOU and not for them or anyone else but YOU! You made that decision to get healthy, to detox, or to lose weight. Let them hop on their own boats, you stay on yours and focus on you and your health.

How ofter are you having juices? I suggest between 4-6 juices per day that are at least 16-20 ounces each. You can have more than that and I recommend you have a juice right when you feel hungry. Not when you feel a craving but when you are hungry. You've been juicing for 4 days and the rough part should be just about over. Just stay strong, keep yourself inspired, and look to the future and how you want to look and feel in your future.

Here's a great motivational video about a man who lost 100 pounds on his juice fast. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjt3bxyKcCI

Look up other motivational videos and keep posting on the forum, we will be here to help you, motivate you, and support you through your juice fast! I'll be here if you need to talk or you can always email me, my email is at the top right of the site on every page.

Hello, JustOnJuice, and everyone,

Today has gone much smoother. I woke up very late that's because my craving kept me up half of the night into the early morning, When I finally did wake up, it was time for a new start. I grabbed me some lemons and began to drink a cold up of water and a couple slices of lemon thrown in it. I am amazed now of how just writing that's set and reading your reply has helped me stay focused. You are right I like my boat and I am totally am going to stay on it. I drink 66 oz. of juice per day more if I feel hungry, I know last nit was just craving because I felt myself dreaming awake of many different foods I could eat. I watched this video before and I watched this video again and I still stand inspired of what one is able to achieve if they just stick to it. I can do this. Thanks so much, it's time to take back my health one juice at a time. Thanks again and I will keep everyone posted.

My husband and I are on Day 17. He has lost 24lbs and 11lbs for me this far. My big thing or problem is the cleaning of the juicer every meal, and now we are having thoughts of stopping from a big feeling of boredom from doing the same thing again and again. We have tried different juices but the taste buds feel dead. We both came from eating a diet of butters and wine, and gourmet meals. Any suggestions? I feel great that we have come this far but looking ahead at finishing a 30 day;the tunnel is closing.

Hi all, This is my first day of my juice fast. I am finding it very difficult. My brain keeps thinking "what should we prepare to eat" and I reply "duh stupid brain I told you we are juicing" :)

Has anyone else been nauseous while juicing? Is this normal? Any tips for me?

Thanks,

Hello everyone,

My name is Jay and I have recently introduced juicing into my life from some convincing from my gf. I was very skeptical at first, but now I am hooked. It really is a life changing experience. Here are some posts from my facebook during and after my fast. :) -Cheers!

3 days so far without eating anything. 2 more to go! Dropped 7lbs in just over 48 hours. Today's Lunch: Kale, spinach, mint, apples, cucumbers, and a hint of cinnamon. Tastes just like carne asada fries I swear! ha
If anyone else is trying to make positive changes in their life, you WILL hit a wall. It is inevitable. The question is do you go through it, around it, or over it. Regardless, you will be faced with a decision to take action or not. So don't give up on your goal. Remember true strength is not giving up when everyone else would understand if you did. Happy hump day everyone!

Final day of this week long challenge. Last night I almost caved and went and bought some food. Don't ever underestimate the power of a strong willed woman in your life Thanks for the save love! This morning was a suspenseful one. Trying on one of my only fitted shirts. It actually fits! The buttons aren't gripping on for dear life to keep my stomach covered with stripes and polka dots. Goodbye 11lbs you will not be missed! — feeling accomplished.

Juice fast feedback for anyone interested.

Juice fast is over and now I can eat again! Yes! But actually no. The weirdest thing has happened. I'm craving celery sticks and carrots? wth? I'm a born carnivore. I grew up to backyard Chamorro BBQ. I hail from a city with some of the best Carne Asada fries, and the infamous "Donkey D*ck." (members only would understand this reference). I love drinking things that are sweet. I love drinking. Fast food restaurants are my best friends after a long day at work.
I used to believe that food genuinely made me happy. That there was so much significance to it. After 5 days of chugging fruits and vegetables how much could possibly change? Personally, a lot. Loosing a few lbs may seem insignificant but the mental gain is priceless. Forcing yourself to endure something that you are not comfortable with and finishing it through is worth every stomach growl, grumpy mood swing, stomach cramp, and every meeting in the Oval Office (necessary TMI for future juice people).
I'll be the first to admit, I have become the type of eater to not stop when I'm full. It would be time to stop eating when I start to hate myself for taking that one last bite. Ha
In a strange way this small experiment reminded me of something. Food as delicious as it may be is an experience of short term happiness. It brings comfort in times of stress. It provides you with an experience all to yourself. But the experience does not last. You are not on that food high for the rest of the day. If you eat too much a lot of the time you feel like crap after. This relates to true happiness in life. Often times we are deceived by monetary items, unnecessary desires, and frivolous activities. We buy things in order to make ourselves happy. Then when the newest one comes out we throw those things away. We do things to escape reality, then when you return reality is still reality. We are still unhappy with something. Money, weight, appearance, status, the list goes on. But we never really CONTINUOUSLY do something about it.
All of these things provide a temporary sense of happiness. We need to do things that genuinely move us. If you don't like something change it. Make happiness permanent by becoming the person you have always imagined you could be. Become the most bad@ss version of yourself. Why not? Don't be lazy, and don't be afraid to admit that you are. Don't be afraid to look at yourself in the mirror and realize that you are the only person preventing you from being truly happy in life. You control that.
To me this was obviously more significant than to drop some weight, although that is a plus. This was about challenging my will. It was about bringing positive change into my life. Although it may be a small win. It's a win, and you need these small victories in your ultimate challenge of becoming of who you want to be. So good luck to anyone who is forcing themselves outside their comfort zones. You will never know what you are truly made of until you go beyond what you already know.

Total loss: 11lbs
Total gain: I can't stop running now. I salivate while walking through the produce section. <- wtf? ha

So next weeks challenge: Go a week without complaining about something. "Man this is going to suck."

Have a great weekend everyone! — feeling proud.
