3-7-14-30-60 Starts tomorrow. (05.31.13)
on: May 31, 2013, 01:53

Sorry for the short notice, but I just found you.

My wife showed me a couple of movies recently (Hungry for Change and FS&ND)and shortly after we bought a juicer and have been drinking juices as part of our diet.

This week, I made the decision to try a cleanse.

My target is 7 days, but will go at least 3. If at 7, I am feeling it, I will continue, so on and so forth.

I have really added weight over the last 10 years and need to get it in check.
I am 6' 3" and have always been around 200 lbs...All went down hill at around 33 years old,and today I am 43 and pushing 300 lbs.

My short goal is to make it 3 days. I think my long term goal is 45 days, and that is just because I am going on vacation. If by some miracle I lose 55 lbs at any point, I will call it good then too.

Just throwing this boring story out there.

wish me luck, and join if you like!

I'm juicing now so I'll join you. I am doing 7 days but on day 2 currently. You can do this GenXer, after 3 days it's really simple to just stay on track with it. I'll keep checking back, but if you have any questions let me know. I'll be here!

Hi GenXer, JOJ, Claire and quetxalli,
I stumbled on to this site while searching for juice fasts and recipes.

This is my first try at juicing. I must commend you on your site, JOJ, it is amazing. I spent 2 hours on it last night and only scratched the surface, however, enough to convince me to run out and by a juicer and give it a go.

It is extremely refreshing to know I don't have to "go it alone". Everything I have read on this site is so refreshingly positive.

A few weeks ago, my son told me of the movie, 'FS&ND. I have only watched parts of it, however, enough to tweak my interest enough to research juicing a bit more. The information I encountered is very overwhelming to say the least. again, this site cleared it up and made it easier for me to understand the basics.

I am on my way to buy the weeks worth of supplies on the convenient shopping list you have supplied, JOJ, and I an going to ride along on your journey, GenXer.

Best of luck, and thanks again JOJ for an amazing site!

Good luck! I started today and am going for 7 days… I weighed in this morning at 121 pounds and am 5'2''. I have a stubborn 13 pounds I would like to get rid of. I don't think I am fat by any means but I am typically a small person and in the last year gained about 13 pounds which definitley shows when you're small. I am more at an awkward stage more than anything else. I did have a black coffee this morning because I can't go cold turkey on caffeine, I have learned this lesson in the past and don't want to learn it again. I should also add that I love all foods unhealthy mainly because they are fast and I work a lot. There is a plus to this, I also love, love, love my fruits and veggies so hopefully this won't be extremley difficult!

I have a quick question for JustOnJuice:

I am drinking all 6 juice recipes you provided on http://www.justonjuice.com/7-day-juice-fast-plan/ is this ok? Will I still lose weigh and detox?

Reddie, I'm glad you enjoy the site! Thank you for the awesome comment! Let me know if you have any questions. Post often so we can all follow each other on our journey of juicing!

Mare, you will still lose weight, but make sure you are drinking only when you get hungry. Try to block out the cravings and you'll do fine. There's a huge difference between actual hunger and a craving. You'll have no problem losing that 13 pounds, and I'll be here if you have questions along the way!

Wow this is great! Quetxalli, I hope I can get to 45 days. And rededdie, glad to have you along for the ride.

My day 1 update-
I had the day off I which is why I started on Friday. Here is how the day went. Woke up, had the lemon water and a breakfast juice. Had a dentist appointment, and had to swin by a house we rent out to inspect as it is changing tenants. Did some grout sealing while waiting for a carpet installer. Went home and had another breakfast juice. (10:30) I drank 16ozs of water after juicing and some in between. Around 1, I had a lunch juice. Needed to kill some time so took off on my motorcycle for a few hours...went to the rental, handed kes over and signed off on the carpet. Home by 5, and had a 2 lunch juice. (Recipes provided on the 7 day guidelines). Walked the dogs (about 2 miles) and settled in for a movie. (Action movie since wife was at a baby shower). Mid-movie (7:30 or so) had my 5th and final juice. (Dinner one with the beets)

I hardly felt hunger? I did have cravings, especially when I was home last night. I got tired way earlier than normal and was in bed by 10.
The cravings were the hardest thing, it's like you want it more since you know you can't have it. Besides the end of the day fatigue and cravings, I was fine.

And now, the biggest thing, the scale says I am 4.8 lbs less than yesterday! I realize its 'water' weight, but its almost 5 lbs less than I have been carrying around considering the scale hasn't budged in quite a long time.

About to start day 2...

Just On Juice:

Thanks for your fast reply!

I am currently on day two and day one was a breeze! I weighed in at 119 pounds this morning so all is looking good and I am very excited I found your site!! I did have a coffee again but I didn't drink all 12 oz of it. I actually like black coffee now as weird as it sounds. I have also realized that I cannot drink all 6 juices lol! I was only able to drink 3 juices yesterday plus water, I am surprisingly not hungry, of course I now dislike TV commercials because all they ever advertise is food. Its funny because now that I am juicng I notice all the food around me but I am not tempted. My parents are having a BBQ this weekend and I told my dad that I will not be coming over. He laughed and said he couldn't make it past 3 days of juicing haha. Anyways I will update again tomorrow. Thanks for reading!

Mare, it's ideal to have between 4-6 juices with each being 16-20 ounces. So if you can't get down 6 drinks it's not a problem. Isn't it amazing how the juice really does fill you up? You're getting that huge push of fresh vitamins and nutrients and your body is loving it. Keep your willpower strong, go past three days and get your dad to juice again.

Kat, welcome to the JOJ forums! 28 days is a very good goal! We will be here for you if you have any questions or need some support.

Day 2 update. Stayed awake much longer, cravings about the same. 'Hunger' kicked in around dinner time. Stomach growling, etc. neighborhood has an annual spring coffee gathering, and I avoided the bagel and muffins! Big test today, meeting my brother for a motorcycle ride that will no doubt involve a'Greasy spoon'. I am cooling down a thermos now and will throw it in the saddle bag. I hope the restaurant won't mind me bringing it in. I really miss coffee.

Weight loss today, 1.2 lbs for a total of 6 lbs for the two days.

Good day to all!

Good job GenXer.

I'm on day 2 and it is alot easier today. Day 1 not so easy, headache(numbed with tylenol)nausea and dizziness etc. but not enough to sway me off the juice. I tried the lemon and water and Jolt Juice for breakfast, followed by 1 glass of water and 2 more before lunch. Then Bruschetta Tang for lunch. 2 garlic cloves was too overwhelming for me, I had to plug my nose to get it down and then had a hard time keeping it down. Trial and error for me I guess. Supper was Green Machine and I was beginning to think this wasn't for me. I tried a more fruit based concoction in the evening; 1 apples, 2 oranges, a handful of spinach, 2 celery stocks and 1 knuckle of ginger and that was a bit more palatable for me.

This morning was fruit based again with 2 carrots instead of the celery as well as hot water and lemon, and 3 glasses of water.

I thought the hardest part would be skipping my morning 2 cups of coffee, but so far not too bad.
The strangest thing for me is I'm craving water, which is a good thing because I know I don't drink near enough.

I now see what you mean, JOJ, about adjusting the menu to your palate. Is there any foods that you should avoid combining?

Weight loss 6 lbs, so far so good!

Good job GenXer and Rededdie!

I am on day three and I still feel great! I can still only get three glasses down because I am so full and I tend to go to bed early so my last drink is about 6pm and I go to sleep at about 8pm. I am the oldest 26 year old alive haha jk. 😛

This morning I weighed in at 118 pounds thats minus 3 pounds for me yey! I am hoping to see 117 on the scale tomorrow morning :). I have been woking out to tone but no running involved. I also tried the bruschetta tang today and although it was good I had a lot of heart burn. I think I will skip that one for the next 4 days. I have also been putting less celery in the ones I currently make because I am not the biggest celery fan. Well I am off to try to sleep off this heart burn… I will be back tomorrow!

Mare, congrats on three days of juicing! That's fantastic! Sorry to hear about the heartburn. That's a tough juice but and can give you some heart burn. Make sure you're drinking plenty of water though. I usually drink a 16 ounce juice followed up by 16 ounces of water. Can't wait to hear back. Keep it up, you're past the hard part!

Rededdie, Congrats on hitting day 2! The Bruschetta Tang is a juice I typically drink when I'm craving something like Mexican food. It's pretty heavy on the garlic. Just remember if you don't like something, don't drink it. Find drinks that work well for you and your palate. If you're doing great on the more fruity drinks, then add more fruit in and after a few days start to tone it down. Here's a great recipe for you to try. I bet you'll fall in love with this one! http://www.justonjuice.com/banana-boost-juice-recipe/

GenXer, Sounds like your doing very well! Just try to avoid those temptations! Congrats on getting through Day 2. Let's hope day 3 is good! You'll have hunger and cravings, just remember it's okay to have a juice when you get hungry, even if you just had a juice an hour ago. Your body is telling you "hey, it's time for more nutrients" So listen, and have another juice. Enjoy!

Glad to hear so many are doing well! Quick update for me...I survived day 3. About the same as day 2. Had some hunger, but drank water/juice. Survived the restaurant trip with my wife and brother. Walked the dogs for 2 miles and mowed the grass. I did notice I fatigued easier mowing the lawn. Despite the extra weight, I have never felt super 'out of shape' as I am basically built like a football player and not completely sedentary. Ended with 4 juices yesterday.

Another 2.4 lbs gone for a total of 8.4 lbs for the 3 days.

I made it three days, now will shoot for 7.

Have a great day everyone!

Starting juice fast again. Would like to join you. I need to drop 3 sizes to fit my clothes. I have decided that I will not buy anything new until I have accomplished this. I am totally frustrated when I go to my closet and have to go through 5 outfits to find something that will stretch enough for me to put it on.
I have a masticating juicer which is great. It comes with 2 screens of different sizes. One obviously gives you more pulp. Does it matter which screen I use? Is there a problem if the juice has more pulp? Is it better to have more watery juice?
I am already missing coffee!!

Aggie, I feel your pain when it comes to clothing. Over the years I've watched my pant size go up and up... It's frustrating looking at your old clothes and not being able to fit into them. After my first fast I was able to fit into a nice suit I had used 12 years ago. Went from size 38 back down to size 32. The weight will fall off Aggie, give it a full two weeks and it will change everything.

You want the least amount of pulp possible. No pulp would be ideal. Pulp means your digestive system will have to digest it. When your consuming straight juice with no pulp there is nothing to digest as the juice gets absorbed instead of digested.

If you miss coffee, try switching to tea. Well before my fast I made the switch from coffee to tea and it was incredible. I swore from then on to have tea over coffee. I had more energy, and there were no drops mid day. It was a consistent energy level and some of your finer teas have such good flavor. Look up Teavana or see if you have any local shops that specialize in tea.

OK I am on Day 4 (mid-day) I have had two juices so far and it's 1:40pm. Today was my first day back to work since I have started the cleanse and it was hard. Everyone was eating lunch and the smells made it more tempting today. The good news is that I have been doing good and have not been tempted yet! I weighed in at 117 this morning thats -4 pounds (go me!!). I am already debating on what to cook on friday, I think I am making a vegtable soup. I am really looking forward to it but I think I will continue juicing for breakfast and lunch for a while with a good hearty dinner after the cleanse... any thoughts? I wonder if that will still benefit me and continue weight loss?

Mare, I sympathize with you. When I first started juicing I worked at a nice office. They would cater in lavish lunches everyday. I'd have to watch people eating grilled salmon, steak, delicious hamburgers, awesome salads, fresh shrimp, and so much more. The smell alone was enough to almost make me slide but the health benefits I was feeling coupled with the weight loss I was experiencing kept me on track.

Don't stop on Friday if you still plan on losing more weight. It starts to really shed off when you go for 2 weeks.

You could continue to lose weight with an added meal but don't go crazy. Keep your first couple of meals strictly fruits and veggies as it will be easier to adjust. I continued to lose weight after my fast but I was eating very conservatively and still avoiding all breads, dairy, and most meats.

JOJ, I would like to lose more weight but my parents are having another BBQ and this time I plan on eating just a little bit mainly for a small taste. I also have to keep working out for my job and I am not sure how far I can push myself with juicing. I am planning on regulating my meals when I cut down on juicing but don't plan on giving it up. I wont make my final decision until the 7th day, I might change my mind once I see more weight loss.
