Losing Muscle Mass
on: May 8, 2013, 04:32

Hi Guys, I've always lifted weights and it's part of me. I started juicing due to my new discovered High Blood Pressure and after several medication later nothing was working. I was turned on into juicing and I feel great and my blood pressure its almost back to normal. The problem I'm facing is that I'm losing muscle mass and I don't like that one bit!

I'm new to juicing and I'm falling in love with it but it's hurting what I like to do at the same time... Going natural in juicing what you guys have discovered that will deliver a good solid amount of protein?

My blood pressure got back to normal after about two weeks of juicing. I was and always have had very high bp.

Losing muscle mass is one of the obstacles of juicing. If you're very active or hit the gym then you should add some pure unflavored protein isolate to your juices to ensure you're getting that extra needed protein in your diet.

I was 212 lbs before I started juicing, today I am 185 lbs and feel better than I did 10 years ago!

Hi JuiceBackToHealth,

I spend a lot of time lifting weights at the gym even while on a juice fast. I found a blended veggie protein isolate with a complete amino acid profile called "Warrior Blend". I'm sure you can find it online if your local health food store doesn't carry it. I tend to add it to 2-3 of my juices throughout the day, especially the one I drink right after my workout. It thickens the juice nicely, has a fairly pleasant pea flavor (it's unflavored, so that comes straight from the veggies), and definitely helps the muscle mass issue. I just whisk it into the finished juice and it mixes pretty well. Good luck!

Thank you guys, I normally get my protein from dried eggs in a powdered form but I want to stay as natural as possible so I guess I will make the switch based on the recommendations. Also since I lost 10 LBS I found increasing the weight more of a challenge but I will work on that for a bit.

Guys here's my second question - Since your body starts to clean itself of toxins I believe I can lower the amount of protein because it will have a lot of less toxin it will have to deal with correct? Here's a good example -

I went over to my brother's house to visit him and he gave me a cup of coffee. After 20 minutes I was very spunky and my heart started to race and I know it was how my cleaner body reacted to the caffeine that make me feel the effect. So I will assume my body is reacting different to the protein. What you guys think? By the way. My name is Jose

You're correct in the fact that your body will react differently based on it's tolerance level. With any detoxification process you are eliminating the toxins (caffeine for example) in your body. Your body adjusts to not having that caffeine and when you reintroduce caffeine into your system it reacts as if it's the first time you've had caffeine.

It's not the same with protein though. Protein is vital to your diet and your body depends on that. It's something your body must have to survive. How much protein you need depends on your body weight and muscle mass. A 140 pound man wouldn't need the same protein requirements as a 240 pound man.

As long as your continue to maintain or build mass your consuming a healthy amount of protein while juicing. When you start losing that mass you need to re-evaluate your goals and your protein intake.
