Just Started Juicing
on: May 8, 2013, 22:04

Hi everyone, first off I would like to thank you for this site and the 7 day plan, having a shopping list and a menu is great to get started, and congratulations to everyone doing/starting/maintaining juicing, having now started I can appreciate the dedication it takes.

I am 26, I have been trying to lose weight for ages with no success so far, but I am feeling positive and motivated with juicing.

I also suffer from Seronegative Arthritis and arthritic psoriasis throughout my body since I was 9.
Its no excuse for my weight but I am hoping juicing can pump my body with nutrients to help the symptoms.

My goal is to get down to a weight where I can exercise without so much weight stressing my joints, then start a new lifestyle of healthy solids and juice.

Hers a breakdown of my juicing days so far.

Day 1
To be honest a terrible day, constant headaches and nausea, keep in mind that I WAS a caffeine freak,
coffee, energy drinks ect, so boil the most of the day to withdrawals from that.
Normal bowl movements

Day 2
Heaps better, dont feel bloated, stomach feels lite(not hungry) but a good feeling. Minor headache but nothing to complain about.
Minimal bowl movement.

Day 3
Woke up feeling positive and had a sense of achievements as I didnt know I had the willpower to last even a day, had a juiced lemon with water, headed to the gym(45 mins treadmil, paced walked at a steep incline, 15 mins cool down and stretch) Hunger has been not an issue at all, more the mental hunger got to me at the end of the night but sorted that out with a strong beet root juice.
Even less bowl movements. Urinating often.

Day 4(today)
Juiced lemon and water. Hit the gym for some lite cardio 30mins and core 25 mins.
Getting nervous today as I dont want to get my hopes up for when I hit the scale.
Dont want to expect too much but want to expect enough to keep me motivated.
But feeling really good on the inside, hard to explain but just feel...healthy.

Had a few questions regarding gym though, would it be okay to take a thermogenic(Makes you sweat and boosts your energy) in the morning before gym? I dont want to negatively effect my juicing.

I am going for a 2 week juice fast, but was wondering if during the second week would it be okay to add pure whey protein isolate to my juices to increase the protein while gyming as I would like to start doing weight, Im not intending to build but rather to get a full body workout.

Last question is Im abit worried about my bowl movements been so infrequent.

Sorry for the long story but feels good to share.

Time for me to have my Romaine lettuce, spinach, cucumber and pineapple Juice with just a hint of ginger :) breakfast for champions.

PS I live in New Zealand, if anyone can recommend a protein powder thats found here that would be great.

Thank you again

Jamesdc, thanks for the post! Congratulations on committing to a 2 week juice fast! It seems you are on the right path with your fast. More urination and less bowel movements is good.

When you're juicing James, you aren't taking in any fibers from the fruits and vegetables you are eating. Fiber is what leads to bowel movements. While juicing, you're not taking in any fiber so there is really nothing in there to warrant a bowel movement. The bowel movements you do have consist of what was in your system before you started juicing. It's nothing to be concerned about and means you are clearing out your system and the detox is working how it's supposed to.

If your main goal is to lose weight then just stick to the juice. You are taking in enough protein from the juice. I usually suggest adding a protein isolate for people who aren't too concerned with the weight loss but more concerned with building or maintaining muscle mass. You can add it but I wouldn't suggest it since you haven't been adding it in the past 4 days and are doing fantastic!

You do not want to take a thermogenic while on the juice fast. The juice fast works by ridding your body of toxins and other unnatural chemicals. By taking the thermogenic you would just be re-introducing toxins back into your body.

You are doing great and you're on track here. Just keep doing what you have been doing and you'll be fine. Just stick to the juice.

"Willpower is essential to the accomplishment of anything worthwhile." Keep this in mind while on your fast!

I was 212 lbs before I started juicing, today I am 185 lbs and feel better than I did 10 years ago!

Welcome to the forum. I'm new to juicing as well and yes I'm into fitness and weights. I too had the same concern as far as protein and I was recommended unflavored protein drink and a few other natural products that are protein rich.

Since you are also concern about your joints I would go easy on cardio because it can cause a bit of joint pain as you try to lose that weight. As far as losing weight juicing will be a big factor in your diet. Losing more weight will also improve your joint pain and will allow you to increase your cardio.

Go easy on weight as you know weight lifting adds a lot of stress on your joints. Be prepare to urinate a lot when you exceed your protein intake but keep the drinking fluid to keep your muscle looking nice and full.

I'm sure the other guys will jump in as they know more about juicing than I do. I've been on it for 1 1/2 month. I just brought up a concern as I was losing muscle mass really quick due to juicing but I have no regrets. My muscle mass lose was due to cutting down a lot of meats and a bunch of dairy products but again...No regrets!
