juicing leafy greens
on: May 1, 2013, 21:49

I am having an issue juicing leafy greens such as kale and parsley and chard. I get almost no yield from them in the juicer. Most of it ends up in the bin just shredded up.

Are there tips for increasing yield or is this simply a juicer defect?

thx

Juicyvon, this is a common occurrence. When you juice something, some of the juice stays in the tray and shoot. That is why I always suggest juicing a cucumber last as it flushes out any remaining juice left in the machine.

Also, with real leafy greens I find it best to use high speed and to not force them down the shoot. It works best if you put them in the shoot and let the machine do the work while giving it about a finger tips pressure on the pusher. Hope this helps!

thanks, I'll try the cucumber last next time. I seem to be getting the best yield from lettuce but not the kale, parsley and chard. I might have to switch those out and replace with broccoli in order to get the proper green nutrients. Unfortunately my juicer is one speed only so I'm stuck with that.

That's odd, you might try running the spinach/kale through first and then after you stop the machine, open it up and see if there is any liquid in the shoot.

The cucumber is an excellent idea. I had a similar issue and used apples as these produce quite a bit of juice to flush the green juice through. I also intermittently will flush my green juice out with just water since I add water to my juice anyways.
