Introduction and gall bladder
on: July 10, 2013, 02:39

Just joined the forum today. Last week, I had pains after every supper meal along with nausea for about 2-3 hours, so I checked with a doctor friend of mine, and he said it sounded like classic gall bladder issues. I have an appointment with a surgeon on July 18. But I want to try to avoid surgery. So I started researching and the topic of juicing intrigued me.

Does anyone on the forum have experience with gall bladder symptoms and juicings efficacy in that regard?

After watching Joe Cross' movie, I bought a juicer ( one gear masticating) and am now on the 2nd day of a juice fast. Oh, and I can afford to lose about 40 pounds, so if I can achieve two goals, weight loss, and keeping my gall bladder, math at would be bonus!

Werner, welcome to JOJ and the forum! Sorry to hear of your gall bladder issues. I don't have experience myself with gall bladder issues, but I've heard from others that it will do wonders for symptoms related to the gall bladder. Masticating juicers are great and will give you a better quality juice than centrifugal juicers. They may take a little longer to juice but are worth every penny! I hope you can avoid surgery Werner, I was able to avoid surgery for my back issues. Let me know if you have any questions along the way.

I was 212 lbs before I started juicing, today I am 185 lbs and feel better than I did 10 years ago!

Day 3 has begun. For breakfast I used a recipe from this site. Can a person overload on sugar? The recipe called for 2 cups grapes, 2 apples and 1 cup blueberries along with some kale. cucumber and ginger. I used swiss chard in place of kale. But I am concerned about the sugar.. no I am not diabetic, but I did get the occasional low blood sugar episode mid morning if I overloaded on sugar for breakfast. Slighlty headachey, but I suspect its from my coffee free morning. I cheated yesterday and had 1 cup. I used to be a 5-6 cupper a day.

Werner, that's a great question and that recipe (Morning Glory) is a great recipe for a morning drink. It's okay to have more sugar in your morning drinks as opposed to your afternoon and night time drinks. That recipe has healthy, natural sugars and still comes out to have less sugar than a 32-44 ounce soda. It has less sugar than a bowl of the most common cereals and a glass of orange juice.

If you were a coffee drinker and stopped, you'll most likely get caffeine headaches for a day or two. Try switching to 1-2 cups of green tea per day. It will help the caffeine withdraw and it's healthier for you.

Actually, I did not have a lo blood sugar episode today! That surprised me. And yes, I have a headache. That recipe with 2 tomatoes did elicit some pain and nausea with the gall bladder issue. I will be avoiding that one for now.

That's awesome Werner, minus the headache and the tomato recipe. Stick to recipes with a low amount of fruit and see if that makes a difference. Remember, you can take tylenol or ibuprofen if you get a headache. It sounds like you're off to an amazing start!

Day 5! I am amazed at how it's going. Losing almost a pound daily. No headache this morning. And my stomach pains have been getting less and less. I am hoping that by the time I see the surgeon, he will discover that there is nothing wrong with my gall bladder. We shall see.
