Intermittent Fasting
on: April 18, 2013, 13:30

I just read an article by Dr Andrew Weil in which he explains the benefits of short, periodic fasts. You can read the article here:

I found it pretty interesting and decided I would modify the fasts to be juice fasts.

So, starting today, Tuesday and Thursday will be "juice fast 'til dinner days". Until dinner on those days I will limit my food intake to juices and rooibos or green tea.

Of course, if I am participating in a longer fast, like the 3 day fast next week, I will be fasting for full days.

I weighed 201 pounds when I started juicing on March 15, 2013. My weight today is now 185 1/2 on 4/21/13.

What a great article, lots of good information. I'm also juicing until dinner right now. For dinner I am only eating fresh veggies and a chicken breast.

I'm looking forward to the 3 day fast on Monday. It will be a good fast as I plan to try out a few new ideas for recipes.

Once I am done with my juice fast I want to continue subbing juice for a couple meals. Which meal is better to actually eat or does it really matter?

My thought was that if I am really craving breakfast foods I would eat breakfast then juice the rest of the day. I really want to be healthy so there are pleanty of things that will be severly limited if not quit completely so that will have some impact.

I would eat a light dinner. Juicing your breakfast and lunch will ensure you get plenty of energy throughout the day.

Hi! So I am starting the juice fast tomorrow, but I am also wanting to turn it into a lifestyle, not just a fast. What are your thoughts about this? I have thought about doing juices all day and then the light dinner as you suggested after the fast, but I also like the idea of juice all day. I am just curious as to what your thoughts are? Or even what plan you follow? Thanks!

KM, welcome to JOJ! I feel that juicing is more of a lifestyle than just a fast. I typically juice for 3-7 days every other week. It seems to work really well for me.

I have a juice or two everyday to keep up my nutrition and because I love the juice now! It's not a juice fast if you include a meal, so it's good to do 3-7 days of just juice every now and then. During your non fast weeks, still continue to juice but add in a meal or two.

Hope that helps!
