Hello, I first want to compliment you on an awesome site! I dabbled with some morning and evening juicing in the past, but have never taken the plunge into a full-throttle juice fast. I am currently away on deployment but will be home next month. I plan to jump into a seven day juice fast when I return.

Does anybody here also follow an intermittent fasting diet? I have been experimenting with an 8 hour eating window / 16 hour fast per day. I wonder how juicing may compliment such a diet.

Thank you Pissburghflyer! I've put a lot of time into JOJ so people have the information they need about juicing. Also, thank you for serving and protecting our freedoms, you guys don't get enough praise!

Intermittent fasting works great depending on how you do it. If you're goal is to maintain or better your health it works really good. If your goal is to lose weight, it's best to go full force and commit to an extended juice fast without any solids. Looking forward to your return. I'll be here if you have any questions.

Hi, I am in the UK and just found your site which is fantastic with so much info, I am new to juicing and was inspired by the documentary "fat sick and nearly dead" that was on TV in the UK last week. I am planning to start a 14 day juice fast when my new juicer arrives in 2 days yay! One big problem I need to overcome is fitting the juice fast around my job, would it be possible to make 2 juices in the morning and take them to the office in a cooler bag? the juicer I have purchased is a masticating model which I am told holds onto more vitamins etc. I plan to have a fresh juice for breakfast, then make enough for 2 more juices to take to the office then have fresh juices in the evening. Will I be losing out on the nutrients if I do not have all my juices freshly made? I am unable to take my juicer to the office.

Lolgemant, welcome to JOJ and congrats on starting your fast in a few days! You have it planned out correctly. Make your first juice fresh and drink it, then make two more juices and bring them to work with you. As long as you keep them in an airtight container and store them in the refrigerator, they will hold. Do that and you'll be fine. I'm here if you have any questions.

Hello! Question: How often should I be drinking a juice? Should I wait until I am hungry? 😕 I hate feeling hungry and I don't know if the hunger will go away right after I drink....

You should be drinking a juice whenever you start to feel hungry. Let your body tell you when to have a juice. The hunger feeling you are having will go away once you drink. Stay strong and juice on!

Hi, Thanks for replying to my question so quickly, I have read a lot that the first 3 days will be the hardest and it can help to have extra juices if feeling hungry, just wanted to find out if there is a limit to how many juices you can consume in a day? Can you drink too many and have a negative effect?

Lolgemant, I find it best to just listen to your body and have a juice when you feel hungry. It's good to make sure you have between 4-6 juices that are between 16-20 ounces. If you start to feel uneasy then you may be having to much if you're exceeding 6 juices. Make sure you drink plenty of water and you should be fine.

I'm finishing up Day 4 of 7, and I've prepped bags for the next 3 days. Checked my weight this morning and actually lost 6 pounds in the first 3 days. I'm trying not to get too excited because I know it will take work to keep it off once I'm eating solids again. That's what I wanted out of this though, to get a head start. I started a 6 week weight-loss challenge with some mommy friends this Sunday and this is definitely giving me an edge, but I'm dying to start running again! I guess I'm just wondering where to go from here as far as incorporating the juice fasts into my weight loss. I'm trying to lose 35 pounds. Don't *need* to lose that much, but it would be nice to get my BMI on the lower end of normal, and this will obviously take longer than the 6 weeks. I'm also trying to lower my cholesterol big time. So when I start eating again, should I just throw in 3-day fasts every couple weeks? And during those days will it be okay for me to be running or continuing any strength/ cardio training? What should my diet look like with juices? I want to cut out dairy, and I already don't eat meat except for fish. Thanks for any tips!!

Congrats CrawllyFlower! You're doing great! 35 pounds is a very achievable goal and you can do that in 6 weeks or under if you really want to.

When you come off the fast it's best to still continue to juice but also eat fresh fruits and veggies. Do this for the first week off your fast. After that first week, continue to juice and eat fresh fruits and veggies but feel free to start adding a protein such as a chicken breast, some tuna, sushi, steak, etc. into your diet. If you keep this up you'll continue to lose weight and coupled with exercise I bet you hit or come very close to your goal.

Keep juicing as part of your everyday diet as it's the best way to feed those nutrients to your body. I'm anxious to hear your results every week. Keep me posted please.

I finished a 14 day juice fast on Sunday and lost 17 pounds. On Monday and Tuesday I transitioned into solid foods like you suggested. Then, I began a healthy eating routine I planned. I have gained 2 pounds since. I weighed in today and have gained 2 pounds back. Is that normal?

Thanks for your reply. So starting Sunday I will continue to juice and also add fresh fruits and veggies.. During this week, how many juices should I be making.. and also, when I add proteins, what are some other vegetarian options I can use - beans, nuts, tofu? I want to keep fish to twice a week because of mercury.

Christina, you're weight will fluctuate up and down because you are adding solids back into your system. However much you eat will stay in there until it's passed out through a bowel movement.

Crawlly, you should make as many juices as you feel the need to. Try to keep juicing like normal and just add in a meal or two in place of a juice. As far as protein and vegetarian options you have grains, beans, lentils, legumes, tofu, soy products, nuts, seeds, meat substitutes, and even protein supplements.

Hi JOJ,
Can I ask you what kind of a diet you typically follow? I know you've said that you juice fast every other week, but can you share what you do in between?

Patti, thanks for asking. When I'm not full out fasting I typically eat fresh fruits and veggies while still including juice in my diet. I'll typically have 2 or 3 juices throughout the day.

In the morning I'll have a ginger juice (2 golden delicious apples, 2 inches of ginger, 1/4 lemon peeled) and enjoy some fresh fruit. When I get hungry again I'll have a normal juice. After that I may have a salad with lots of different fresh veggies and some lemon and pepper drizzled over top. Come dinner time I'll eat something with protein like a steak, chicken breast, sushi, pork chop, and sometimes I'll even have a burger. I don't just stick to plain meats though, I'll cook up some delicious recipes and I often use the crock pot to make a nice stew or soup. If I have an early dinner I may treat myself to another juice like an apple/ginger/cinnamon as a dessert.

The main things I try to avoid are boxed foods like chips, all candy, soda, breads (minus an occasional burger) and any type of fast food.

Hope this helps you out Patti. You can eat very healthy and still have delicious meals after your fast. Enjoy!

Thank you for that. I really want to begin a new way of looking at and using the proper foods to fuel and nourish my body. I'm 54 and am starting to see some "issues" due to my poor diet and sedentary lifestyle. It's time for my thinking to be "transformed." I'm very excited about the future. Thank you again for this website and all of your good information and encouragement!
P.S. I'm kind of relieved to hear you're not a Vegetarian. I think it would be difficult to give up meat :)

You're very welcome Patti. I'm just glad you were able to use the information here at JOJ to your benefit. Haha, I don't think I could completely give up meat either. But it's become less of a staple in my main diet than it was before.

Hi, I have just completed my first 3 days fast (planning 14 days)and this morning (day 4) I thought I would weigh myself, was excited but very quickly dissapointed when the scales show I have only lost half a pound! I have stuck to the fast 100%, I drink 4 pints of green juice and at least 4 pints of water a day, and thats it, apart from one day I had a ginger and lemon caffeine free twinings tea. Each juice contains,
1 x Cucumber
5 sticks Celery
Inch Ginger
2 x Green Apples
Half a lemon (one day I had whole lemon in a juice as they where tiny ones)
Broccoli bunch or Kale bunch or Whole Romaine Lettuce

My main motivation to start juicing was the weight loss as I am 40lbs overweight, and very suprised that I have only lost half a pound! I am not constipated and drink enough water, I also prepared myself before I began, by cutting out carbs and fats for 2 weeks (lost 10lbs) Is my non existing weight loss normal? I am still motivated to give it 100% especially for the health reasons, but would love to know if anyone else has also had similar experience. I had expected to lose 4-5lbs :-(

Lolgemant, make sure you are weighing yourself in the mornings before you drink anything and after you use the restroom as your weight will fluctuate throughout the day. Also, don't weigh yourself with your clothes on. You should be losing weight. Also, what kind of juicer are you using? Let me know and we will figure it out.

Hi, thanks for reply, I weighed myself first thing this morning after restroom and without clothes, I am using the Samson masticating juicer.
Day 1 was Friday and I took 2 of my juices into office in 2 vacuum flasks, then saturday and sunday all my juices where freshly made and drunk straight away.
Have stuck to the fast 100%, was inactive over weekend on laptop studying but I am normally inactive, should I be doing some mild activity? Had planned to do regular walking after detox stage.
I am female, 5ft 2" aged 52yrs and weigh 172lbs.

Hmmm... Give it a few more days. How are you feeling and have you had regular bowel movements during the first few days? Also, are your drinks the same consistency as water? Your juices should be smooth and not have any pulp in them. If there is pulp you may want to consider straining your juices. Any pulp in your juice will work to activate your digestive system and that will take you out of the fast.

Hi, getting ready to start in a couple of days, I was told by my doctor that I have low vitamin D and Low Calcium, can I continue taking my vitamin supplements while Juice Fasting?
Thank you

Remember Mary, you'll be getting plenty of vitamin D and Calcium on the fast. Unless your doctor gave you a prescription there's no need to take any supplements as the amount of fresh nutrition you'll be taking in will be more than enough to correct your deficiency.

I invested in a Hurom 100, and I've tried a few recipes that came with it. I am a very picky eater and so far all of them taste really gross. I was hoping to do a juice fast, but I need to find some recipes that I can stomach. It's hard enough giving up solid food let alone try to drink juices that taste gross to me. Please help!
