Just wondering how many juices you can drink per day and about how many ounces they should be. I haven't really seen much in way of serving sizes..

Hi Sarahbee! When I'm Fasting I usually drink between 4 and 6 juices that are 16 to 20 ounces each.

I'm wondering what type of recipes to use on the 7 Day Plan to drink between 4-6 juices per day? The Plan only shows 3 recipes for each main meal of the day. What type of juices are appropriate for the other 1-3 that should be drank? Thank you so much for all of your help!

MW, you can drink any juice you want to. You don't have to have any certain drink at any certain time. Drink what drinks you want to. Try them all and see which ones you like and drink those.

What can I expect on my first couple of days on a juice fast and how long does it take to feel great and have lots of energy?

FirsttimeJuicer, some people experience signs of detoxing while others don't really have any symptoms at all. The detox period usually lasts for the first three days and but can last up to five days. Once you've gone through the detox you'll get your spike in energy and feel great.

The best thing you can do is to read the forums under the group fasts topics and see what symptoms people are experiencing, how long they last, and how they start to feel afterwards.

Hi there

Been reading through the website nod it's great, so inspiring. I would like to start ASAP but have a few questions I hope I could get answered:
1. 18-20ozs.. Just to clarify that's fluid ounces right which would be just short of a pint?
2. The amount differ between men and women?
3. I was planning to juice mine the night before in preparation for the next day.. Breakfast and lunch, would that be a bad thing?
4. How do people tend to store their juices?

Sorry if they seem silly :(

Lumpyroo, yes a juice should be around 16-20 ounces. You should have between 4-6 juices per day. 1 Pint is 16 ounces. No difference in the amount between men or women. You should have a juice when you feel hungry instead of setting a time schedule. It makes more sense to feed your body nutrients when it asks for them.

It's not a bad thing to prep ahead of time, but I would suggest prepping in the morning so you don't lose too much nutritional value.

I find it best to store my juices in an airtight container in the fridge. I use a good thermos but some people use mason jars and they work just as well.

No questions are silly Lumpyroo, just be glad you're asking them and getting the answers so you feel good enough to get started. I'll be here if you have any questions. Keep me posted on your fast!

Hi! I'm doing my research on juicing...I have a significant amount of weight to lose and want to get a good start. I have been following a "low carb" diet for about a week and am in shock how much fat and grease and cheese I've consumed :( Juicing seems SO much better but how long should a person stay on a juicing regimen? I went through some recipes and found that some were well over 400 calories! How can I lose weight consuming 2400 calories a day? Do you know of any lists out there that has the nutritional facts in one happy place?

Thanks!!

Hi JessicaMurph, and welcome to JOJ! I'm glad you are looking into juicing. I'm sure you will lose a good amount of weight when you decide to start juicing. Let me fill you in on a few things.

A lot of people don't understand how to figure out the caloric intake of their juices and just assume that they take all the calories of the produce and add them together. This is incorrect. The correct way to figure out your caloric intake is like this.

Take the total calories of the produce and subtract the calories from fiber.

400 total calories
65g of fiber equals 260 calories (65g multiplied by 4 since there are 4 calories per gram of fiber)

400 minus 260 = 140 calories in your juice.

That's just an example but I find most of my juices are in the 150-225 calorie range.

Since the fiber is not consumed, you can't count that in your intake. You could count it if you were to eat everything raw but that's not the case when you're juicing.

There are a few sites that you can go to and plug in all of your ingredients and get a nutrition label that shows you how many total calories along with how many grams of fiber. I hope that helps to clear things up a bit for you. I'm working on getting the nutritional value of the JOJ recipes and will have those up in the future.

Read through the forums Jessica, there's not one person who has done a juice fast and not lost a good amount of weight. I'll be here if you have any questions, keep me posted and let me know when you're ready to start a fast and I'll get a group fast together.

You! are amazing :) Thank you! My husband has been going to a chiropractor for 7 months for his back pain/aches etc., and she recommended juicing to him (he thought it was steroids at first haha) so I've been doing A LOT of research. I'm very interested. We bought a new juicer - Fusion Juicer, have you heard anything about it or know if it'll do? I seen you use another kind but hubby surprised me with this one. I want to get started probably Monday w/ my husband (he doesn't need to lose weight) I'm pretty ashamed to say but I need to lose 150 lbs (huge goal I know). How long have you been doing this and how often do you fast? Do you recommend exercising while juicing? I have been going to the gym everyday for 30 minutes cardio and weight-lifting 3-4 days a week

Well thank you Jessica! I haven't used a Fusion Juicer but I haven't heard anything bad about them.

I've been juicing off and on for a while now. I typically like to juice as often as possible but I usually go on a 3-7 day fast every other week. You can exercise but I suggest you do that after 5-7 days of juicing as the first 3-5 days can be tough. During those 3-5 days your body is detoxing and it's best to rest and recover. Light exercise is okay though, just be careful not to overdue it and make sure you drink plenty of water!

I'll start juicing on Monday also! Keep me posted!

Ok. I have a question. I'm copying the shopping list for the fast menu you created. I noticed if I drink 6 juices a day (based on the list) I will have consumed 8 apples a day? Is this right? That seems a bit much & the shopping list says 12-15 apples for the week...am I doing something wrong lol

It all depends on which juices you try. The shopping list is a great start to get you enough produce to sample all of the juices. Depending on how much you drink you may need more produce. The shopping list is based on 4 juices per day. You can go up to 6 if you want but you'll need to get more produce.

Question: I am new to this and have just completed day 2. Is it ok to just have 3 juices a day if that's all I'm hungry for or should I squeeze in more? Also, if they are only 10/12 ounces each, is that ok? Thank you!

Christine, congrats on day 2! You should try to squeeze in one more juice. Only because I worry 3 juices at 10-12 ounces might not get you enough of the nutritional value that you need. You could also try increasing your juices to 14-16 ounces.

It is only day 2 so you may feel different in a few days but listen to your body and make sure to drink when you're hungry.

It sounds like you are doing great Christine. Keep doing what you're doing. I'll be here if you have any questions.

Thank you thank you! I have fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis. The weight gain the last 3 years has been difficult to handle. I was a reasonably active person, running or walking everyday. The meds have really helped but I'm ready to get healthy and look it! Thanks for your reply.

Hi! I'm new to the website :) I want to try juicing with my husband for at least 3 days and see how we do. I do have one concern though. I am currently doing Insanity, I do it 6 days a week and first thing in the morning. Should I consider a protein supplement if I try juicing? I mainly am doing this to kick start my clean eating attempt. I'm pretty bad about veggies....fruits is no problem. Do you think I'd be ok? And also, is any kind of tea ok? I appreciate your help!!

Moniquita, while you can continue your workouts I would suggest you stop or lighten them a lot while on your 3 day juice fast. Your body will be going through detox so you may experience a lack of energy and some headaches. It's usually best to wait until you've completed detox to exercise. Just go easy on your workouts and don't over do it.

As far as a protein supplement there is no need to, you'll get enough protein while on your juice fast.
http://www.justonjuice.com/how-do-i-get-protein-during-a-juice-fast/

You can have tea but I'd stay away from black tea as it's very high in caffeine. If you can, any decaf tea will work though.

Keep me posted, I wish you and your husband the best of luck. I'll be here if you have any questions Moniquita.

Hi! I'm brand new to the website. I learned about juice fasting from Joe Cross's documentary, "Fat Sick and Nearly Dead." I bought a Breville Juice Fountain, some organic veggies and took the plunge. I'm now on day 7 of a 10 day juice fast and finally, starting today, I've been feeling really great. My mind is more alert than usual, I'm not having any hunger, and my osteoarthritis is pain-free. I felt so good, I thought I'd try to find a forum and found you. (Yea!) I may continue beyond the 10 days, or I may add almonds or something for protein to juicing. Is there any worry of not getting any protein during a juice fast? Thanks.

7thheaven, thanks for your post and welcome to JOJ and the forum! It sounds like you are doing fantastic on your juice fast, congrats! As far as the protein issue, most people don't realize that you get plenty of protein from the veggies. Proteins don't just come in the form of meat. I wrote an article going into detail on this topic, you can view it here:

Congrats on finishing out a whole week on your juice fast! I'll be here if you have any questions.
