Donnie Toivola – My Juicing Story

Donnie Toivola - before and after
Hi! I’m Donnie Toivola and this is my story about how I went on a juice fast and was able to get my life back. I’ve tried numerous diets, pills, and exercise routines in the past and through juicing I’ve learned that there is no shortcut to your health. What we eat has such a huge impact on our health and our lifestyle but we often give in to temptations that ultimately affect our lives in a very bad way. Why do we do this to ourselves? It’s so easy to go through the drive through as opposed to planning, cooking, eating, and cleaning up after a healthy home cooked meal. But is it worth it?

Donnie Toivola and How it all started

Donnie - Before the fast

Over a year ago I got up to the biggest I’ve ever been. I was in the worst shape of my life and years of abusing my body with junk foods, sodas, alcohol, and convenience foods were starting to take its toll. I was up to 235 pounds before I decided to start watching what I was putting into my body. I was on a number of different medications and was in a lot of pain. Over the next 6 months I was able to drop 20 pounds just by eating healthy and exercising but I hit a plateau and was still having to take all of my medications. To top things off I was also told by my doctor that I was going to need surgery on my back to fix my sciatica. I was very depressed as it seemed all the hard work I did didn’t do much for me. It was then that my friend Adam told me about juicing.

I looked into juicing and was immediately excited about the possibilities. I read from people like Joe Cross, Jason Vale, and Drew Canole. I thought if they could do it, so could I! So I did my research and tried my best to find out as much information as possible about juicing and the benefits of it. Information on Juicing was hard to find and it was discouraging that I couldn’t find a decent plan that included a well-organized shopping list. I eventually made my own and decided it’s time to give this juicing thing a shot.  I was a little nervous about going just on juice but I figured I could give anything a shot for a few days. What’s the worst that could happen?

Donnie Toivola - First Shopping for Juicing Experience

I ordered my juicer from Amazon and was excited to give it a go. I had a doctor’s appointment after work a few days later and my weight was 215 pounds. When I got home I was excited to see that my new juicer was on my door step. I didn’t even get out of the car. Instead I headed straight up to the store to get all my produce so I could start juicing immediately! After gathering up all of my produce and I felt a little funny putting 24 cucumbers and a shopping cart full of fruits and vegetables on the conveyor belt at the checkout line. I got a few weird looks and the cashier eye-balled me up and down before asking what I planned to do with all these cucumbers.  I just told her I was starting a juice fast.

Donnie Toivola – My First Juice

Tomorrows meals prepped for the next morning

After I got home and organized my produce, I opened up my juicer and had a rush of excitement run through me as I made my very first juice. I was surprised at the taste as it was actually good! That night I setup my routine and planned out how the next few days would work. I prepped my produce that night so I wouldn’t have to do any extra work in the morning.  Come the next morning I just grabbed my Ziploc bags that each contained a meal and began to juice them. I had a juice that morning and brought two juices to work with me that I kept in air tight thermoses and stored in the refrigerator at work.

My First Juice

See, the place that I worked at during my first juice fast had a fully stocked kitchen and they even catered in very nice lunches for us on a daily basis. As the day progressed I started to feel hungry so I grabbed a juice before lunch so I wouldn’t be tempted to get up and eat something when lunch arrived. Lunch had arrived. It was a freshly seared Ahi Tuna, mashed potatoes, fresh steamed broccoli, and an assortment of fruits and desserts! It was one of my favorite meals that would occasionally get catered in. I was very tempted to give in but I didn’t. Watching everyone around me dig into their food was making me seriously think about my juicing. The smell was really getting to me but I held my ground and didn’t give in to it. I was proud of myself for doing so. Now, I didn’t tell anyone at work that I was doing this in case I failed miserably on the first day. That was blown after a few people asked why I didn’t have a plate of this delicious food in front of me. A few people thought it was a really cool idea while some just thought I was crazy. I didn’t let that bother me though.

Ready for work with my juice

I drank my next juice a little too early and went 5 hours without being able to make my next juice. This was really a struggle but I learned that I either need to take more juice to work with me or not drink all my juice anytime I get a craving. Day 2 and 3 was a breeze as I didn’t have any symptoms besides a few cravings that I quickly learned to push aside. Day 4 I developed a slight headache that was easily fixed by taking a few ibuprofen throughout the day. I was finally getting into the swing of things and during lunch I found it amusing to just sit and watch people eat and chew while I kicked back and drank my juice.

Donnie had a tough day

By days 5 and 6 I had a good routine down and things were going great at work and at home. I’m a single father of two young boys and while I still had to cook and take them out to places it didn’t bother me anymore. I could be in front of food and not even get tempted. I thought I was on top of the world now and things were only going to get better. On top of that I was down to 200 pounds! When day 7 rolled around the design team which consisted of me and two amazing girls were called in for meeting. It was a meeting to tell us we were all being laid off and our department was going to be outsourced from now on. It was a huge shocking blow as I had been there over two years and was proud of the work we did.

What do most people do when they get laid off in groups? They go out to eat and drink. Well, I took the news as best as anyone can. I had a juice and went out with the girls but still stuck to my juice fast. I took the next few days to reflect on what I was doing and how to move forward from this unfortunate event.

Donnie Toivola – Results of my Juice Fast

After My Juice Fast

I had a doctor’s visit the next day and it was great. I was able to stop taking all of my medications and my blood pressure was down from the 210/110 range to 112/73. I was excited but I knew things were looking good because I couldn’t remember the last time I felt this amazing. I was down to 195 pounds, my hair was growing like crazy, and people even commented that my skin was shiny. I’m a guy so I never really paid attention to if my skin was shiny or not but I guess it was another symptom of the juice fast. It was not just helping me lose weight but it was taking such a huge positive effect on my overall health that I decided to focus my energy towards JustOnJuice.com so I could help others have the same success that I was having and get information based on my experiences that was not available to me when I started.

Donnie Toivola Juicing pics

During the next week I continued to juice while experimenting with different recipes and ingredients. I was able to get down to 190 pounds and was very excited as I hadn’t weight this much since I could remember. Friends and family were amazed at the results I was getting. I was even able to convince my mother to go on a juice fast. She had some of her own really amazing results also! I decided to start incorporating solid fresh fruit and vegetables into my diet. I kept everything raw and over the next week and a half was down to 182 pounds. So I had lost 20 pounds through better eating choices and exercise over the course of 8 months. I then lost another 25 pounds in the two weeks while on the juice fast, and another 8 pounds while still juicing and including solids during the following week. So in a year I lost a total of 53 pounds and 33 of those pounds were from juicing and eating healthy afterwards.

I went from a size 38 to a size 32 in my pants and went from an XXL shirt down to a Large shirt size. I never realized how fun shopping for clothing was until I could actually get normal sized clothing. I was also able to get off my medications! I could chase my boys around the park without getting tired and actually keep up with them! I was feeling the best I had ever felt in my life and it’s all because I changed my habits and let the juice be my medicine.

I still juice today but I also eat normally and am careful about what goes into my body. I’m not a vegetarian as I do consume meat, just not at the frequency that I once did. I typically go on a juice fast once or twice a month and do between 3-7 days not because I have to, but because I want to. Juicing has become a normal part of my life and something that I will continue to do for the foreseeable future.

I hope my story empowers you to do your own juice fast and share your success with others as I have done. As Hippocrates once said; Let food by thy medicine and medicine be thy food.

I’m always here at JOJ if you have any questions. Feel free to post on the forum, remark in a comment, or even email me directly if you want. I wish you the best of luck in your health!

  1. Hi Donnie, I hope you can provide me with some guidance… My husband and I decided to start juicing to lose weight. So we got everything we need and started 4 days ago. He gets on the scale every day and shows a loss of at least 2 pounds. After 4 days I’ve lost 1.4 pounds!! I know women lose slower than men, but I really thought I’d see a bigger loss especially in the first week (even if it’s just water). Is this normal? Am I just destined to a 1-2 pound loss per week? It’s so depressing when I had such high hopes of at least a few more pounds the first few days. People that he work with have been doing juicing and have had amazing results; what am I doing wrong?

  2. Hi Donny, Iv’e always heard that you should drink the juice as soon as it is made to get the highest nutrition. You mentioned bringing a thermos to work with your juice in it. Does it lose any nutrition doing that?

Hi Donny,I had already bought my juicer and have started to juice two days ago when I was looking for recipes and came on to your site, your story is fantastic and so inspirational, I am in my early fifties and am on blood pressure medication, I had bloods done a few days ago and now have an underactive thyroid too, on the plus side , I excerise everyday and meditate, I do a thing called callanetics which I love, it’s very empowering.
I swore I would never diet again as I believe dieting has made me larger over the years, I have done the lot , weight watchers, slimming world, Atkins, you name it.
After my bloods were done the other day I realised I needed to clean up my act and I genuinely thought of juicing as a way of cleaning my blood and liver etc, I really don’t want to go on more medication for cholesterol.
I was thinking of just doing breakfast and lunch as juices then have a small dinner, so that I could get some good green stuff which my husband hates and still have a life, could I do this and get benefits?
I could manage a three day fast some weeks as well, I never with myself now as I was going crazy doing numbers and I’m pleased with how my body is changing after six months of excerise but feeling more energetic and losing the middle age spread would be a bonus.Thank you.

  4. Hi Donny! I’m a first timer juicer and I feel clueless to what I have to do or where to start. I’ve been searching for juicer machines, but I suddenly start to feel overwhelm with how many they’re out there. Please help me out and what tips you have for new beginners.

thank you from Desperate 4 a Change girl!

    • In my experience slow press juicers waste much less produce to give u the most out of your produce and a cleaner drink. I experimented with 2 centrifuge juicers before getting my slow press and even though when researching all the slow press juicers I came across were very expensive until I finally found the big boss slow press juicer at Walmart for $98. It can’t be washed in the dish washer or in too hot of water, but other then that it’s way easier to clean and you get a lot more juice and less waste then faster juicers. Good luck!

  5. Hi Donnie!

Wow!What a great juicing story you got here! Congratulations! I am currently working on my weight loss. I’ve been exercising for 3 weeks now and started to eat less carbohydrates and sweets. I’m an Asian so I’m not that tall compare to western ladies. I’m 26 and I’m kinda heavy for my height. Anyway, I started to drink more green tea which I believe helped me a lot as I don’t crave for too much food anymore, thus results to my body improvement. I’m a teacher and my students have noticed that my face and body got slimmer in some way. Yes, I used to have a very chubby face, lol. But then of course, I’m excited to try the juicing effect. It might give me a faster result soon. I have watched Drew Canole’s juicing videos last month but did not get a juicer yet as I wanted to try the power of green tea, diet and exercise first. But then of course, with more people like you who strongly believe in the power of juicing, I’m encouraged more to try it.Thanks for your inspiring story! :)

  6. Congrats and good work Donnie! Amazing that you stuck to it after such devastating news! I am considering doing a fast of 30-45 days. I am in the military and I need to lose 45 ish lbs for an upcoming or test to pass. I do own a juicer and have dabbled into many times for 2-3 days here or there. I have been iincorporating veggies and fruit more but I need some sort of overhaul and I don’t want to join ppl at work with Atkins as I do see it being healthy. So my two main concerns are , can you workout a lot while juicing, and will it slow your metabolism . Total I need to lose 85lbs but 45 lbs to get my waist to pass. I want to juice 30-45 days and slowly go back to eating but I’m worried in two months after I’d gain all of it back quickly and be worse off. Obviously you are mainiting, so did you see this an issues at all?

    • Chris, thanks for your message, and thank you for serving! 45ish pounds within 30-45 days is very workable if you stick with it. While you can work out, it’s important to not over push yourself while juicing. If you listen to your body, you’ll know when enough is enough. Juicing will not slow your metabolism. If anything it will help it. You’ll only gain it back if you go back to your eating habits. Juicing will do much more than help you lose weight, it will help you manage eating habits and control your weight. I never had issues about weight gain and metabolism after I started including solids back into my diet. I’ve been more active now almost two years later than ever. Keep at it and keep me posted Chris. I’d love to hear back from you! Cheers!

  7. Hi Donnie, Ok today is my first day on JOJ and am excited about it! I got up at normal time and with no prep done ahead of time made breakfast juice and lunch and still got out of the house normal time after cleaning! I read your site this am again before juicing to get a good idea of a recipe and looked at one of your pictures where you put a bag in your juicer to save time on clean up! WOW how awesome was that idea! It saved a ton of time and I didn’t have to run the garbage disposal and wake up anyone else in the house!! So im 275# this am so Ill keep you posted on how progress goes these next few days! OH is there anything we shouldn’t juice? Anything that’s higher in calorie or anything that shouldn’t be used? I like pineapple but see no recipes with it in there….let me know your thoughts.

  8. Hello, Donnie (and everyone else reading this thread)

I finished your 7 day program and saw such great results I decided to continue. I have been juicing off and on for 2 months now. Without making any claims I would like to tell your readers what juicing has done for me…

    I lost 37 lbs.
I now maintain normal blood pressure.
Color is returning to my hair.
Age spots on my hands and arms are fading.
My energy level is up and I now walk 2 miles each day.
    I have lowered my cholesterol.
Diabetes is no longer a threat.

Your story is amazing and inspiring, Donnie. Because you took the time to write it I was able to read it, apply it to my life, and now I have a similar story of my own to share. Thank you!

  9. Thank you SO MUCH for your story.. im only 21 but i have been overweight my entire life except when i was 17 i was anorexic and got hooked on lots of heavy drugs, i was down from 220 pounds to 165 in just 3 months but i became grossly pale (which is strange because i am always really tan, i have a natural dark skin tone even though im caucasian lol) and i had acne all over my entire body. I had been using drugs until November of 2013 and have been sober since that time.. i have found spiritual health and emotional healing but one thing that always gets in my way, is my body image. Well i finally decided to change my life and in a healthy way! I am on day 1 today… i really appreciate your honesty and your story overall. How amazing and inspiring. Thank you 1000 times! If you could email me i wuld really appreciate it!

  10. Hi Thank you for sharing your story! I am on day 6 and I find the best motivation is getting on line and reading all the amazing success stories from people juicing. I have only lost 3 pounds in six days which is still something to be proud of but but I was wondering how long you suggest going for? I was shooting for two weeks but i realize it might take much longer. my email is torimay27@gmail.com

    • Tori, welcome to JOJ and congrats on day 6 of juicing! What juicer are you using? Keep me posted and I wish you all the best!

  11. Hi,

I have completed an 18 day juice fast and it was brilliant, I feel great and I also lost 9kg.

I am now going to add it into my everyday diet, I will use it along side my food for the added nutrients but if I wanted to lose some weight whilst I was training would an evening meal where I replace my cooked vegetables with a juice be more beneficial?

    Thanks.

  12. The god effects are clearly seen on you. Hope it could do the same for me.

  13. Donnie,

Man this story is inspirational! I’ve been struggling with going past day 1 on a fast but I’m starting one tomorrow.

Quick question, did you ever have the sciatica surgery or did the juicing help with that problem? I’ve had three severe blowouts in the last year and I think detoxing might be the solution.

    Thanks!

  14. Hi. I was wondering how easy it was to keep the weight off after the fast? I am thinking about getting a juicer and (hopefully) doing the 30day fast, or at least working up to it, but I am worried that the weight will just come back… Any advice?

  15. i tried to Juice a lot of time but end up giving up after the 3rd day , i’ ve been doing this for the last three months i have lost a total of 25 lbs in this last 3 months .. i’m starting today again hopefully i stay on track i need motivation . im 42 yrs. old currently at 258lbs and i want to be at 200lbs . any advise will help. this is my email romerolopez1@gmail.com

  16. Donnie,

Thank you for sharing you’re story with us and for being an inspiration. In fact, I’ve added you to the list of “43 Bloggers Who Will Inspire You to Juice” in my blog Juicing with G.

    http://www.juicingwithg.com/juicing-blogs/

    All the best,
    Garrick

  17. I started my juicing on Monday. I have started on this diet a few times but never saw my way through because of the cravings. After getting measured for a bridal dress and the measurement was a 22 I knew it was time for drastic measures. I have been on the juice diet for 3 days and have dropped 10lbs. I don’t know if it is water or what. So I will continue for the next 4 days and continue exercise. And hope to have great results. Donnie, you were a good inspiration.

  18. Hey Donnie,
I’ve been reading about the juice cleanse for a couple days know but I just have a couple questions, and I was hoping you could help me answer them. Basically, I used to be on the lemonade cleanse a couple years ago, and on that cleanse there was a salt water flush you we’re supposed to do every morning. The salt water flush really just helped you go to the bathroom and do your business every morning (sorry if I’m being too graphic). But is there nothing like that on this juice cleanse? I know you’re supposed to drink lemon juice with warm water every morning, but is that really enough? And I just have one more question. Did you not face any side effects after finishing the juice cleanse? Because one I was done with my lemonade cleanse, my hair started to fall out. Thank you. :)

  19. Hi Donnie,

Thank you for sharing your story. I was on juice fast last year and it was a great experience especially with your help.

I have a situation and would like to hear your thoughts. This year, I have gone through some bad eating cycle, and yielded some stomach issues. My doctor did endoscopy and colonoscopy with biopsies from both, ultrasound, and blood test, all are normal, except she detected gastritis. She put me on a stomach wall lining protection medication. Yesterday, I started juice fast for a whole day, felt great, clear mind, balanced energy. I was too busy to make my own juice so I got the juice from Pressed Juicery, a local chain. I have had their juices before and was fine. However, I was up since 2pm with severe grinding pain in my stomach. It’s been 3hrs, and it hasn’t stopped. I got up and took my daily probiotics and am hoping the grinding pain will stop.

Should I keep going with the juice fast today? What are your thoughts? Hope to hear from you soon.

    Leah

    • It was 2am. Also, it was my first time trying Pressed Jucery’s beet juice. I remember even my own beet juice cause stomach pain before. This time, it was severe. I got up and had a little food, finally was able to go back to sleep. Now, my stomach is still suffering from residual pain. I don’t know what to eat or what to drink. I start working on Monday, I need to have a healthy stomach by then…

      Look forward to your thoughts.

      • Leah, make sure you are consuming plenty of water throughout the day. Also, if the juice is too much then try consuming less per drink than you are currently doing. Beets can be the culprit here, try juicing without them and see if you still have the same problems. Cheers!

        • Just my two cents here. Beet juice gives me severe stomach cramps as well. It breaks my heart because I love them so!

    • Leah, you may want to consider mixing your juicing and consuming a few fresh fruits and veggies throughout the day. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Cheers!

  20. Hi Donnie. Thank you for inspiring story. You mentioned that you have sciatica. So how do you deal with medication while juice fast?

I have prolapsed disc and am on medication. I wanted to take the 3 day plan juice fast but not sure if I should do it because of my situation. I need second opinion, since we have almost the same problem here. In my country, juicing is not really popular and only few are doing it.

    • Jossy, I’m off all of my medications at this point. Every once in a while it acts up and I may take an ibuprofen or two but it’s nothing too serious. After two weeks my pain had dropped so much I opted out of the surgery that my doctor had suggested and also didn’t have to take pain medications any longer. I kept taking my pain medications as needed while I was fasting though. Give juicing a shot and I wish you have the same success as I did. Keep me posted Jossy! Cheers!

  21. I want to thank you for your inspiring story. I began juicing 1 month ago, only for breakfast and lunch, and began loosing weight immediately (and honestly unintentionally) I came across your site and it inspired me to move directly into juice fasting. I’m on day 2 right now and I feel great. I understand that there may be some rough temptations along the way, but this site and the people on it are motivation enough to KEEP GOING. Also, you suggested watching Joe Cross’s film: Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead and I have to say, it literally changed my lift. I can’t look at eating the same. I started this juicing journey at 480lbs. I plan on continuing as long as I can, whether it be through periodic juice fasts or returning to the 2-a-day juice meals. In short, THANK YOU.

    God bless

    • An update, now 6 days after my first comment. I am on day 8 of a juice fast (28 days of intermittent juicing for breakfast and lunch prior to this fast) and have lost 55lbs! All my friends and co-workers are floored. I have SO much energy all of the time, I sleep better and I feel, overall, like a new person. My goal is to make it to the 60 days that Joe and Phil did in Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. It has been VERY difficult but I can see such a bright future for me and my health, so I’m going to keep pressing on. If you’re juice-fasting right now and reading this, KEEP IT UP. You’ll be so happy with your results.

      • i am juice fasting right now (day 6 of 30) and i really appreciated reading your words. i know you can make it, and so can i. <3

        • Jennifer. I hope your fast went well. I know it gets hard in the middle, but toward the end, it’s so rewarding. I have 12 days left. I am on day 48 of a 60 day fast and I’ve now lost 107lbs and counting. I’m so grateful for all of the info I’ve been able to find on juicing now, thanks to this site and many like it.

Much luck to all who take on this challenge. One thing I can say is, “I PROMISE you, you can do it.”

          • Congrats on losing over 100 pounds On your juice fast! That is amazing! It’s incredible to see what out bodies can do if we give them the proper nutrition. Super congrats!!!

  22. Hey Donnie,

First of all AWESOME blog! I love all of your juice recipes. I can’t wait to try out your Green Giant Juice tonight! I too am juicing and blogging about it – http://www.sheddinglite.com/blog/2014/1/30/step-6-detox I have decided to try juicing to not only release weight but to also clear up an autoimmune disorder I have – Psoriasis. I have just recently began to see some incredible changes in my skin and waist line – But just as those changes began to appear, my will power to deny myself food began to fade. I am STARVING! I have now been going for 10 days and wanted to continue on for another 11 days but I am really not feeling as good as when I first began. My first week I barely even thought about food and now I feel like it’s all I can do to stop myself from going through drive through on my way home from work. Can you tell me did you have any ‘low’ patches, or hard times during your cleanse? How did you get through those days? Will it get easier again?

    • Hey Simone,

I know this is a late response, but I just saw your post and figured I’d respond anyway. So the same thing happened to me, and it was right before I started menstruating. I got crazy cravings and felt really hungry. I just drank an extra juice and stuck it out. The next week, I seemed to be back to normal, not starving self.

  23. Hi Donnie, I have been juicing for a week now, but only it once a day. I am very interested in trying your suggested 7 day detox plan. But my question is , what to do next after the 7 days detox? Should you just continue or it should be less after 7 days. Also how many glasses of juice should a person drink on a daily basis? I would like to keep juicing to live a healthy life.

  24. I just started this morning and I already cheated!! My job caters too, and I was so bummed that I “Googled” for information and stories about people who’ve done what I’m trying to do. Your story just inspired me 100x’s over. I’m going to get some airtight thermoses tonight! That will help me resist the goodies at work. Thank you sooo much for sharing your story. Wish me luck!

  25. Hey Donnie, was a pleasure finding this site. I had been trying to start a juicing fast. Been little over a week. First couple days l cheated. But after reading your story. I pushed through the next couple days and am on my 4th day. I per cut my Vegas up so its easy in the morning. I have taken an extra juice everyday. So l don’t have to worry if l don’t make it home right after work. That was a great pointer.
Anyway l stepped on scale. And even with set backs. Went from 214 down to 206 already.
    Thanks again Travis

  26. Good on you Donnie, and thank you so much for juicing for your life, wow, so many wonderful juicing stories for us novices now. I have had 2 fairly major illnesses since I turned 60 2 and 1/2 years ago and have been blessed with spending time in a healing environment in Brazil recently which has kicked my proverbial backside into taking charge of my life again! I have to have an operation very soon, and after watching Food Network’s documentary about Joe Cross, I have decided to start juicing…I already had the juicer…I started with the food in my fridge, then read the 3 books I have on juicing, then went and bought a whole load of veggies and fruits and have starting with juicing, and making smoothies, and one meal a day…I am amazed that I feel great so fast. I am really enjoying not cleaning up huge amounts of dishes, or spending time in food prep these days…I am loving it and so is my big body and within a week or so I plan to go to just juice for a wee while…wow what a lovely thing…thanks to you for putting up this fabulous website with all kinds of great ideas and thoughts for all of us beginners…xo Roz

  27. Hi Donnie…your story was so inspiring for me. I started juicing and today is my third day and lost 3 lbs.
In how many days can I lose 35lbs following tis juice diet. Can I give a break after 15 days and then continue.
Can u give me some suggestions?

  28. Hi Donnie…your story was so inspiring for me. In how many days can I lose 35lbs Following the juice diet.
I started my juicing and till day 3 I have lost 3lbs…can u give any suggestions for me?

  29. I have started along with my support my brother :). I just need to buy another juicer because the one we have is not great. This will be my gluten free diet for a month to see if indeed gluten is the cause of my health problems. Wish us luck!

  30. I decided to look into doing a juice diet and this page popped up! I am really pumped about starting and will be doing this Feb. 1. I have an issue with struggling with my weight and I had lost 30 pounds while my hubby was gone, but since he has been back I have put on about 15 pounds and I am so mad at myself. I have no big girl clothes anymore so I am having really down days because I can’t wear any of smaller size clothes. I figured this would be a great way to get me back on track to losing weight and eating healthy. Your story has really gotten me motivated and I am going shopping this week for everything. My brother did a juicing diet and lost his first 20 pounds on it, so I know it works, I just have to start it. Really looking forward to do the day I can get back into my skinny pants, lol. Thank you for sharing your success story!!! :)

  31. Hi Friends, I Completed 20 days successfully… reached from 188 to 174 till now.will try to continue until I reach 140.

  32. I tried this and lasted 4 days before I felt I needed to chew something. I’m going to try this again however what can I do about sudden bathroom issus? How long can I expect this to last?

  33. I tried this and lasted 4 days before I felt I needed to chew something again. I’m going to try it out again however I have a concern about sudden bathroom issues. When can I expect this to taper off? Did you experience this affect?

  34. I would like to try this plan. I am up at 5:00am and on the road by 5:20am Can I make the breakfast juice the night before? I am thinking that I could substiute the warm lemon water for my morning coffee!! Taking this water with me on my comute. When I get into the office about one hour later, I could have my breakfast jucie , then follow the plan rest of the day. I really dont want to have to get up any early to juice. I just dont think i would stick to the plan.

  35. Hello from a day 1!!!! I have been blending, juicing and eating solids the last three weeks with no results. Today I started juice only. I am going for 7 days to see how is goes. If I see results, I am in. All the comments and content on the site have been fabulous. I am 5’6 weighing in at 275, but I have a pretty face :) I don’t just want the pretty face anymore, I want the healthy fit body too. I will keep you posted. Bug love from Texas Tiff!

  36. Thank you for your inspiring story! I went to the store to get my groceries today and will be starting my juice fast tomorrow! I am getting married this summer and want to lose some weight. I’m hoping this juice fast will be a kick start to my weight loss!!! Thanks for this site. I’ve found all the answers to questions I had on here!

  37. Wow, what a transformation! Congrats! I’m hoping to lose 70lbs, hoping to juice for 92 days. I’ve tried this twice before, the first time I only lasted 2-1/2 days. The second time, 5 days. This was a few years ago. Although I did feel great, the temptation of the food I cooked for my family, and sitting at the dinner table with them, juice in hand, was by far the hardest part. If you have any suggestions for this, I’d love to hear. Great website by the way:). Thanks!

    • Jasmin, welcome to JOJ! I’m glad to be an inspiration to you and many others out there. It is hard to cook for a family and watch them eat while you sit back and have a juice. I found that was the hardest part of juicing. To make things easier I decided to make juice, warm it up, and eat it as a soup. This really helped me out with the family dinner time. There are a few really great soup juice recipes on the forum under the recipes section. Take a look and try some of them out. I’m sure this will help you as it did me and many others. Cheers!

  38. Hi Donnie– I am new to all this and want to start juicing (have to wait till payday to get all the required veggies oh and a juicer. 😀 ). I was wondering, I am a runner, will I get all I need from just the juice or should I add some plain protein to a shake before and after I run. I typically do only 3 miles at a time but will be training for a half marathon as well. I have lost 50lbs the old fashioned way (hard work/sweat and diet) but have been plateaued and miserable for over a year. I saw a video on a juice diet (no names mentioned) and it inspired me and gave me hope for my obese daughter. Any recommendations for myself as a runner and for my 18 year old daughter? I need to lose about another 45 pounds and she needs to lose 90. Thank you for your inspiring story.

    • Tigger, you may try adding some protein to your juice before you run. If you do add a protein make sure it’s a pure unflavored protein isolate. If you both start a fast just take it week by week and you’ll see some amazing results! It’s great to have someone to juice with, you can keep one another motivated. The best advice I can give you is to listen to your body. Have a juice when you are hungry and look at the big picture. You both are going to do great! Please keep me posted. I’m always here if either of you have any questions. You can also email me anytime as my email is at the top of every page. Cheers Tigger!

  39. Hi Donnie
I’m so excited to start my juicing diet on Thursday! Thank you for a fantastic, easy to use site. Cheers, Sabrina

    • Sabrina, welcome to JOJ and congrats on starting your juice fast! Keep me posted on your progress and know that I’m here if you have any questions! Cheers Sabrina!

  40. Hi Donnie! I think you are hot! We should go on a date sometime.Lol. starting my juice fast tomorrow!

    • Well thank you very much Heather, and congrats on starting your juice fast! I’m always up for a fun time and good conversation anytime you’re in the Phoenix area! Cheers Heather!

  41. HI DONNIE
Your story inspires me I am a 30 years old and have gained a lot of extra weight over the last few years. I’ve been reading about juicing and I am excited to give it a go but can you tell me where I might find a recipe book on juices?

    thanks much

  42. Please can you tell me do you only have three a day? And can you drink tea or coffee? Or is it just water and the food you juice down. Really looking to get started on this just looking at buying a juicer :-)
Feeling determined needing to lose few pounds
Look forward to hearing from you :-)

    • Louise, please read through the plans. You can have 4-6 throughout the day if you like. It’s best to have a juice when you feel hungry. It’s all about listening to your body and having a juice when you feel hungry. You are going to do great on your fast Louise! Stay strong and stay motivated! Keep me posted on your progress. Cheers!

  43. Good afternoon Donnie. Today is my 4th day of juicing and I am still having a tough time with detox symptoms. I always feel so tired and I still have food cravings. I need some support. Please help!

    • Today is my 5th day& I am feeling full head ache :( . Donnie I am worrying , can I do this for 60 days?

      • Hems, it’s just detox symptoms and they will go away any day now. Take some tylenol or ibuprofen to get through it. You can do it Hems! Keep me posted! Cheers!

        • Hey Donnie, I got habit of juicing now. feeling very happy. No head aches nothing. By seeing me, my husband also Started Juicing in the morning. Thanks Donnie. Will update you. From 188 lbs to I reached 177 lbs in 12 days…

    • Hi Tomi! What helps me have energy is drinking 16oz of warm to hot water with a fourth of a lemon juiced into it when I wake up every morning. I drink it while I am making my breakfast juice. I also have plenty of water before and after my juice and another 16oz of warm water with lemon before I go to bed. I find that it is also easier to get up the next morning. Try it and let me know how it goes!

      • Thanks so much Mayra! I will give this a try!

      • The lemon juice with hot/warm water was a must for me every morning on my fast. It really made me spring into action and it was a good way to jump start my day.

    • Tomi, sorry I didn’t get back to you earlier. I hope you are doing good by now. Just remember that the detox symptoms are a sign that it’s working and they will pass by. My toughest days were days three and four. On day five it was like my body was brand new! The detox symptoms were gone and I had energy I hadn’t felt since I was in my early 20’s. Keep with it Tomi, it only gets better! Cheers!

  44. Hi Donnie,
I really want to try juicing but I’m taking Jinga Juice now (wheatgrass + soursop). Will this create conflict if I will start with juicing. I still have 3 boxes of the Jinga juice and it’s quite expensive to throw them away. Please advise.

By the way, your webiste is really, really helpful. Thank you for sharing this to everybody for free.

  45. Hi Donnie,
Thank you for putting this page together. It has given me all of the answers that I’ve needed and more. I’m looking forward to juicing this weekend. I’m of course a virgin juicer. I was reading over your fasting tips and on tip #4 you state about staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Many times as I drink water throughout the day, I don’t feel hydrated. Is it okay to substitute 1-2 glasses with coconut water or aloe vera juice?

    • Karen, welcome to JOJ and congrats on deciding to start a juice fast! Coconut water is fine to have while on a juice fast just make sure it’s plain coconut water with no additives in it and you’ll do fine. Cheers!

  46. Hi Donne,
Nice article. U did really a great job. Today I started my juice diet, but what to do…Got tempted with traditional Indian goat curry with whole wheat tortillas in the dinner :( . Will try control eating solids on my day 2. Please encourage me. I bought 25 cucumbers0, lot of carrot, apples, beet root s. My husband felt so happy to buy all these for me. I am 30 year old woman of 5.5″ height and 188 lbs weight.

    • Hems, welcome to JOJ and congrats on starting your juice fast! Push your temptations aside and you’ll hit your weight goal in no time! Just stick to it and you’ll be on your way to success Hems! I wish you all the best! Cheers!

      • Today is my 3rd day. Getting so much head ache and feeling dizzy. Do I feel like this only for few days or all my 60 days going to be like this only?

        • Hems, congrats on day 3! Take some ibuprofen or tylenol for your headaches and get as much rest as possible. You are going through detox and those symptoms usually go away on days 3 through 5. Keep it up and it will be worth it! Cheers!

      • I lost 4 lbs in two days.. Results are good but I don’t like feeling dizzy and head ache. How did u managed with two kids. With my two daughters I am trying to achieve like you!!!

        • Today is my 4th day. Feeling very good and energetic. I am weighing 180.8 lbs. I am eagerly waiting to see myself after 60 th day 😉

          • Hems, thanks for the update! You’re doing great! I’m also eagerly waiting to see how you do after 60 days! Thanks for keeping me updated. I’m looking forward to more updates! Cheers!

        • Congrats on 4 pounds lost Hems! I won’t lie, it was hard when I first started but got so easy. After the detox period I was full of energy and felt greater than I could ever remember. Just hang in there Hems, it only gets better from here on out once you get through the detox phase. I wish you all the best! Cheers!

  47. Hi Donnie. I’m seriously thinking about juicing. Your story has inspired me to start and I was just wondering how much all of the fruits and vegetables cost on a weekly basis.

    • Kaylin, welcome to JOJ and I’m glad you’re thinking about stating a juice fast. As far as the price it varies anywhere from $10-$15 per day depending on if you buy organic or conventional and if you buy when things are on sale. Now remember, this isn’t in addition to your food bill. This is your food bill as it’s all you’ll be eating during that time. So $10-$15 per day is fairly inexpensive when you look at it that way. It can run you a little extra out of your budget if you still have others in the household to feed though. But that’s the basics of what it costs. Cheers Kaylin!

  48. I am inspired! I ordered a juicer today and hubby and I will start our juice diet next week.
What are your thoughts of our 16 year old joining us?

    • VT, as long as you are okay with it there’s no problem with you son/daughter joining you on your fast. If you have concerns you may want to schedule a trip to the doctor to ensure it’s okay as I’m not familiar with any health conditions your son/daughter may have. I wish you guys all the best! Keep me posted on your progress! Cheers!

  49. Day 1 on the 3 Day juice cleanse. Your site has inspired me!

    • Wendy, I’m glad you’ve been inspired enough to start your 3 day juice fast! Congrats!!! Keep me posted and let me know how your progress. Cheers!

  50. Hi Donnie, I’ve just decided to start a 14 days plan of juice fast (maybe more if I can cope with it). I find juicing very fun and it’s probably the only way to get myself vegetables! I’m a 1000% meat person. :)
My goal is to lose about 5-6 kilos. I put 3 kg since my family from overseas visited me but I heard a lots of people around me that as soon as you stop it to reintroduce a meal or two, they put all the weight back, just because the weight loss was mainly water from the body and muscles and not really fat.
I don’t know if you really can be on juice fast forever, how would you reintroduce normal healthy meals in the diet when the fast is over and avoid to gain the weight back.
PS: I only had my 3rd juice and I’m already experiencing light head sensations.

    • Mimi, welcome to JOJ! As far as putting weight back on, if you stay eating healthy the weight will stay off. People only put the weight back on when they revert to their old eating habits that put the weight there to begin with. The majority of weight you will lose is fat. As with any diet you’ll still lose water weight and muscle too but not as much as people may have told you. The bottom line is that if you eat healthy after your juice fast (meat included), you’ll keep the weight off.

It’s good to juice in spurts. I would recommend if you plan on juicing past 30 days that you consult with a doctor to get a checkup.

Here’s an article I wrote on how to eat after a juice fast: http://www.justonjuice.com/how-to-eat-after-a-fast/ read it and stick to it after your fast!

Keep me posted with your success Mimi and know that I’m always here if you have questions! Cheers!

      • Thanks Donnie! That is exactly what I was looking for about reintroducing healthy solid meals. Even if I’m only on day 2, I know that I’m always 100% committed to what I decided to follow. The worry wasn’t really the juice fast but everything else after it :)
It’s all good for now. I’m not craving too much and when I do, I just make an extra little juice or drink water. Not easy when I have to cook nice and fancy food for my 2 yo boy!
        Cheers
        Mimi

        • It sounds like you are on the right track Mimi! Keep it up and you’ll succeed!

I had to cook for my two sons during my fast. It was hard and it still is sometimes. Just know that you are doing what’s best for your health and that will good in the long run! Cheers Mimi!

          • Hi Donnie

here I am to give you some news. The hardest time were the 5-7th day (I had to eat a little piece of chicken 2 nights) but I got over it eventually and I just started my 15th day! My body totally adjusted to the fast, it became like an everyday routine. I lost 5 kg, I didn’t have much to lose, but if I can go 3 more kg down, it would be great. Looks like I’ve reached a plateau, I’ve been on my new weight for 4 days now.
My friend told me about coconut water, can I drink that instead of a juice sometimes, just for a change?
Also I often feel like having tomato juice, do you think that could mean it a lack of iron?
            Cheers Donnie!

  51. Hi, Can you juice with all the skins on?

    • Diana, it’s best to peel things with rinds such as lemons, oranges, and limes. Skins are fine to leave on as they contain great nutrition. Cheers!

  52. Hi Donnie,

I just bought my juicer, and planning to have a juice diet. I’m researching on what, how, amount, days is needed for juicing diet.

I came across your site and this totally inspires me and i actually got tips on how to start my juicing diet.

I’m at 190lbs (my heaviest) and want to achieve my ideal weigth of 110-115lbs.

Would like to hear advice how many ML of juice should i drink as my breakfast, lunch and dinner? How many hours interval?

    Thanks for the inspiration!

    • Ludy, welcome to JOJ and congrats on deciding to do a juice fast. Your juices should be around 16 ounces or 500ml. Don’t worry about setting times and intervals, just worry about listening to your body and having a juice when you feel hungry. You’ll probably go through 4-6 juices per day. If you have less or more it’s no big deal. Just listen to your body and let it be the judge of when you have a juice and how much juice you have. Enjoy!

  53. Hi, So today is the end of my first day juicing. I actually got the magic bullet for Christmas! I’ve been researching this juicing fast, and i can honestly say i have never felt so moody in my life. Haha
I’ve lost weight before (50lbs) but i’ve come to the point where I need a life style change. I plan to fast for 7 days! Do you have any advice for me?

  54. Hi Donnie,

I was thinking about juicing and also doing an herbalife meal replacement for breakfast to get some of my protein. So I would have a proteing shake in water in the morning and then juice the rest of the day. Do you think this will be okay?

    Thanks!

  55. Hi Donnie,

I plan to start my juice diet soon. I am 5.6 and 227 lbs. I want to go under 200 lbs. I have been regularly exercising past two months, 6 times a day for 45 min. It is a heavy cardio-ab-weight mixture training. I lost 20 lbs in two month with some diet, ( but not juice diet). I do not want to hurt myself or my muscles during this process. Should I go for just juice diet or should I consume raw food or some meat during the day? I do not want to give up my training because that is what I want to do in the long term. What do you advice?

    • Omar, that’s a great question so let me give you a proper answer. You will get protein on the juice fast but only enough to sustain you. It may be in your best interest to juice and have one light meal every day. Keep your meal fruits and veggies and add a lean protein like a chicken breast to it. The weight will come off and this will probably be your best option to maintain the exercises that are working out well for you. Drink plenty of water too!

      • Hi Donnie,
Thank you for the answer. I will start my juice diet this Sunday. I will decrease my training to 4 days a week. I think 6 days a week is hard to keep up with. I really want to go just juice but I will consider your advice.
Thanks again, and happy new year.

  56. Hi Donnie and other Juicers,

Love this site, thank you! We hail from Abu Dhabi in the UAE and love juicing… however since living in the desert, most of our veg and fruit are shipped in… quality, freshness and availability is so unpredictable therefore our juicing is not as consistant as we’d like it to be. So is it possible or just waste of time to make/juice our green juice (kale or spinach/celery/cucumber/apple/ginger/carrot/spirulina and lemon) in bulk and then freezing immediately in portions?

Everyday we would then pop our frozen green juice portion in our blender along with a banana and some fresh blueberries for a quick smoothie. Any thoughts or advice would be so helpful. Or do you think the juicing, then freezing of our green juice would just destroy too many of the nutrients for it be of any value?

Thanks for inspiring us Juicy junkies :-)

Merry Christmas! Nade, Ger and Chloe (prob the youngest mean green juiceaholic at the tender age of 2 and a half)

    • NMclaren, welcome to JOJ! Freezing the juice will work. Freezing will preserve the nutritional value of your juices so go for it and enjoy! Keep me posted on how it goes, I love hearing from other juicers!

  57. Hi Donnie, I have a question, I want to know if I could juice for 20-30 days and could I still be in the gym very active since I am not eating any solid foods? I get married in two months and I wanted to lose some weight for my dress. I wll be purchasing the nutri-bullet, is that a reccommended machine to juice so that i will get all my nurients, I know a blender is not?

    • Tameka, it’s best to let your body rest and recover during the first few days of your juice fast. After that, it’s all about listening to your body. Don’t push to hard on your workouts. If your goal is to lose weight then let the juice work it’s magic and the weight will fly off. The nutri bullet is not a juicer, it’s a blender. You’ll need to get a juicer Tameka.

  58. Hi Donnie, I accidentally saw your website and I thank God for giving me the chance to read your story. You’re my Hero.

I just bought (via online) my juicer 2 days ago, i might have it by Tuesday. Upon reading your story i decided to follow you.

My weight is 150 lbs and I’m 5’2 ft. in cm. I really need to lose weight.

I will update you soon and hopefully I will have the strength to overcome my hunger.

Thank you so much Donnie, God bless you and your family!

    • Gemma, I do my best to help everyone who wants to get healthy, lose weight, and feel fantastic! Keep me updated with your progress! I wish you all the best Gemma!

    • Hi Gemma how did the juicing go so far. was wondering because im 5’2 and 162 lbs. Im starting juicing but not till the 5th when I will have the money.

  59. I have done the Juice diet about 3 weeks ago to lose weight for a wedding and get my energy levels up. It was amazing, I lost all the weight and more. I cant really say my energy improved – the first 3 days I felt like dying, but by the 4th day I felt a little better, but too weak to exercise. My limbs felt numb and heavy and I battled to concentrate at work. The sad part after going through all this, is I have put ALL my weight back on :-( , even though I made sure to eat very healthy (Lean meat and vegetables) afer the fast. Another draw back from this diet is that my breath stank – not ideal when dealing with clients! I am still suffering with constipation and feeling bloated. In a nutshell, I will not do this diet again. It could help if you need to drop weight quickly for an event (if you willing to go though agony for a week), but this is definitely not a long term solution to keep the weight off.

  60. Hello man,
I just wanted to say that your an inspiration and I love this site.I’m on day 7 of my juice fast so wish me luck :)

    thank you,

    Joe.

  61. Hello : )
    Such an inspiring website!
I first heard of juicing from a friend in 2007 and have considered it over the years, I am now reading up and getting more info on it and this site has such good advice. I’m feeling really excited by taking control by doing a juice diet…

The only thing that puts me off is the weight loss, I want to detox and be healthy but I don’t want to loose an awful lot of weight as I am fairly healthy and don’t really need to loose more than 6/7 lbs but I want to take control more of my diet etc…

Is the weight loss so radical across for everyone? Would it be advisable that I start by juice 2x daily and a meal?

    Thanks you kindly,

    Rose

  62. In getting ready to start juicin in the am. In so inspired and excited from reading your story. Thank you.

  63. Hi Donnie, I just found your website today. I watched F, S and ND last Sunday was was truly inspired. I’m a pretty healthy vegan eater, but I needed to get mt BP down and I’m hoping my cholesterol will come down too. I refuse to take meds. I started with a 7 day goal but may change that for longer. Actually I started when I came down with a very bad cold. I’m usually sick with one for a couple of weeks…low and behold….I felt great after 5 days of juicing! I’ m on day 6 and haven’t weighed myself yet but I feel leaner. I have about 15 more pounds to lose. Thanks for your advice and forum. I still don’t have a lot of energy like I get when I go on a week or two of just eating fruit and veggies. Hope this changes.

    • Welcome to JOJ Lynda! You should be getting that energy soon enough. You may still be going through detox. Keep a good mix of fruits and veggies and don’t forget to keep spinach or kale in each of your juices. It’s important to have a protein in your juices. Keep me posted and let me know how things go Lynda. I’m here if you have any questions.

    • Hi Lynda,

As a vegan, your cholesterol should already be low. Animal products are the only sources of dietary cholesterol. Vegetarian meals are typically low in saturated fat and usually contain little or no cholesterol. Since cholesterol is found only in animal products such as meat, dairy, and eggs, vegans consume a cholesterol-free diet. :)

I’m curious as to how much weight you lost in the first week? My colleague recommended I watch “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead” so I hope it inspires me too!

      Happy 2014!

  64. Hi Donnie,
this is my 1st day juicing, and I want to say that I LOVE this site. I’ve been wanting to juice for a while but did’t know where to start. I searched google yesterday, and came across your amazing info, and I’m excited. Thanks, and I will let you know how it goes.

    • Welcome to JOJ Nikita! I’m glad you love it! Keep me posted on your fast. I’m always here if you have questions. I wish you all the best Nikita!

  65. Hello Again Donnie, since my last juice fast I stayed on Two juices a day and one main meal. Starting another juice fast today, how long do you recommend? All the best Gary

    • Gary, if you’re including one meal then feel free to do that as long as you wish. Just make sure you are having a juice when you’re hungry so as not to starve yourself. I wish you all the best Gary. Keep me posted.

      • Hi Donnie, thanks for response, Decided to go a 7 day juice only fast, this is day four. Found it harder this time than last have had really bad cravings for solids but have stuck with it so I hope they will calm down soon. Strange thing is it’s not because I’m hungry it’s just because the rest of the family are eating as normal. Enjoying the juices still so all is good from that point. Will let you know if I make it to the full 7 days. Best Gary

  66. Hi Donnie,
it’s a month that I am on Juicing twice a day, Morning and lunch and I eat at the supper time with the family.
I’ve lost 11 pound in the first two weeks but the next two weeks didn’t lose at all!! Do you have any suggestion? I do have to lose another 30 Pound!

    Tnx

  67. Hi Donnie
Been juicing only once daily for two months, feeling amazing. Want to incorporate more into my life. Will be recovering from abdominal surgery later this week, recommend juicing after that? Keep up the good work, inspirational for all.
    BA

    • Betti, I don’t see a problem with juicing after that but it’s best to get the advice of your doctor to be safe. I’m sure you will do great! Keep me posted and let me know if you have any questions. I wish you all the best in your surgery this week!

  68. Hey Donnie ,

Thank you for the website, i am going to start juicing tomorrow on a 2 week fast and maybe longer depending how it goes. Is it normal to feel weak for the first few days? Also should I work out for the first 3 days or not. I was planning of doing at least 30-60 min a day of cardio.

    • Mike, it’s normal to feel weak during the first few days as your body is going through detox. The detox usually lasts between 3-5 days. You don’t have to work out. You should let your body rest during the first few days and get adjusted to the juice. Afterwards, it’s fine to work out and do cardio. Just listen to your body and don’t overdo it. Let me know if you have any questions.

  69. Hi Donnie,

I bought my first juicer today, came home and googles juicing and you came up !
Great website !! Thank you ! Wish me luck, need to loose few lbs :)and start a healthier life style

    Paivi

    • That’s great Paivi! I wish you the best of luck on your juice fast! Keep me posted and let me know how it goes. I’m here if you have any questions.

      • Hello Donnie,
Today is my fist day juicing, I feel weak and with low energy..I won’t give up on this, your story is very inspirational. I have a question. My daughter is 16 years old, she has a very active life style, sports, AP classes, lots of homework. Her current weight is 152, height 5.7′, she wants to lose 10-15 pounds, do you recommend the juicing for her, she is hardly home, due to her busy schedule. A friend of mine told me that its not safe for a minor to do just juicing. What do you say?

        • Acely, congrats on starting your juice fast! Ask your friend what’s not safe about it. Anything can be harmful if not done correctly. As long as she’s willing and sticks to shorter fasts she will be fine. It’s always best to check with her doctor to be 100% sure though. Another approach she can take is to have one meal a day with fresh fruits and veggies, and juice the rest of the day. This may be a good way for her to try it out before committing fully to the juice. Let me know if you or your daughter have any questions Acely.

          • Hello Donnie. Just wanted to share with you that today is my 8th day juicing! I feel great, the weekend wasn’t easy at all, since we normally go out to eat, I took my juice everywhere, I have been losing 1 pound per day, never felt better. My daughter is starting slowly by juicing twice a day. My son that refused to eat veggies is now drinking the juice every morning. Many thank’s for your blog and for all the info in your site.

  70. Hi Donnie,

Great to see what can be achieved with a little bit of effort. I’m a 21 year old college student currently at about 155lbs .. Going to try a 7 day juice fast to kick start some weightloss and hope to get down to at least 140 by Christmas.

    Wish me luck!

    • Ann, I don’t think you’ll have a problem dropping 15 pounds before the month of November is over. I wish you all the best! Keep me posted and let me know if you have any questions.

  71. I feel very heavy and easy to feel tired. I’m very fat because of my big belly:( since i give birth to my youngest son it seems like still have a baby inside. and become more bigger and bigger each day because of bad habit, eating:( . Your story is really amazing! I really want to try this. I got a new juicer from my husband.
    wish me luck:-)

    • Janet, I wish you the best of luck! You won’t need luck though, you’re going to do fantastic all on your own! Please keep me posted throughout your fast. I’m always here if you have questions.

  72. Hi Donnie,

Thank you for the wonderful site & all the great info. This is the first site that actually gives a shopping list & makes it so much easier. I’ve juiced off & on for years but never as a fast. The only time I rid a whole day of juicing at the end of the day I had heart palpitations that scared me (I believe I didn’t drink enough juice)! But I’m ready to start my juice as my allergy & asthma have taken over my life & I’m ready to be healed & free from them. Just wanted to know if you believe in doing any prep work in days before starting the fast as some others suggest or going cold turkey is ok? Thank you again for being an inspiration, God Bless!

    • Mary, you’re welcome! I’m glad you are enjoying JOJ and finding what you need to make your fast successful! Some people prepare themselves and others just jump right in. If you want to prepare yourself the best way to go about it is to limit your diet to only fresh fruits and veggies. It’s really up to you and how much will power you have. I’ve done both and didn’t really notice a difference in the success. On my first fast I didn’t really prepare as my juicer arrived 3 days earlier than I anticipated. So I just dived right in.

Let me know how your fast goes and keep me updated along the way. I’m always here if you have any questions Mary. I wish you all the best with your juice fast!

      • Thanks so much Donnie! I have a question for you: we’re you under a doctors care during your juice fast? Is it really crucial to be under care? I’m contemplating whether it’s safe or not, to be juicing for an extended amount of time? Thank you again you’re awesome!

        • Mary, the doctor prescribed me all sorts of medications that made me miserable. I went to another doctor after my fast and I was in excellent health according to her and my blood tests. I would say it’s crucial to see a doctor if you are on meds or have other circumstances. But for a simple week or two of juicing I didn’t have to have one. It depends on what you consider an extended amount of time. I would say it’s safe to see a doctor anytime during your fast but I wouldn’t say it’s imperitive to have full out doctors supervision unless you plan to juice longer than 30 days. Again, it wont hurt to be under supervision at any time though. Keep me posted and let me know if you have any questions.

  73. I’m so glad for you. I’m juicing now and eating fruits. this is my second juicing cycle. The first time I lost 28 pounds in 30 days. I’m hoping for good results this time too. This time I’m losing 1/2 pound a day. My blood pressure went from being around 135-145/80 to 105/69 after juicing. I’m off the diabetes meds and my blood pressure meds have been reduced. I hope to go to only all juices very soon. Thanks for posting your success story and leaving it posted for others, like me, who need to be encouraged.

    • Glenda, that is such fantastic news. Congrats on all the success you’ve had with juicing! I love hearing success stories! I’m always here if you have any questions when you go full out juice Glenda.

    • Glenda how did you lose 28 pounds in 30 days? did you drank just juice during 30 days or you’ve been eating some solid food too?

  74. Hello Donnie, did 3 days and lost 5 lbs, very happy. Now on 2 juices a day and a main meal of mainly vegetables. In November I will be trying a longer fast, will keep you informed. Best Gary

  75. Hi Donnie, Very inspirational story, I’ve just started my juice fast. After years of struggling with weight issues due to chronic back pain which has meant I am unable to excercise like I used to. I didn’t want this to just be about weight loss though, I’m using it as a chance to get back to healthy eating, my mouth doesn’t know what’s hit it today, all my taste buds have gone into overdrive. It’s good to know that you haven’t just added your story then left it at that, I may need to pick your brains over the coming days/months. Bit long winded but just wanted to add my thanks for helping me to get juicing with this page. All the best Gary

    • Gary, it’s amazing how your taste buds reset during a juice fast. It’s really incredible to experience tastes that you never knew were there. I’m always here if you want to chat. My email is at the top right of the site on every page so feel free to shoot me an email any time.

      • Thanks for the quick response. I was also shocked how full I felt after each juice, I like my food and was a bit sceptical about just having drinks instead of solids. I must say I’m really pleased with how I’m feeling at the moment, early days as its only the end of day one but I can’t wait to try more juices.
        All the best Gary

        • That’s great Gary. When you have a juice it really does fill you up. It’s interesting how that works as we tend to associate quantity of food instead of nutrients when “filling up”. Hunger is how your body tells you it needs nutrients, not food, just nutrients. Your body doesn’t care where it gets its nutrients from just as long as it gets them. When you juice, you are giving your body loads of nutrients to curb that hunger. I wish you all the best on your juice fast Gary. Please keep me updated on how it goes. I’m always here if you need me.

          • Thanks Donnie, woke up hungry this morning, I can’t remember the last time that happened , got so used to snacking at night. Feeling great so far, will be in touch as to how it’s going.

          • Awesome Gary! I’m glad you’re having such a great experience. Can’t wait to see your progress!

  76. Hi Donnie,

I’m inspired by you story and I’ve decided to take a 15 day juice fasting and if all goes well to continue to 30 days, I’m on my first day today, I only have one concern my iron level is really low… Can you give some advice on types of vegetables to use to help with this condition…
Thank you and I will keep you posted with my progress

    • Spinach/Swiss Chard have pretty high levels of iron that is more easily absorbed by your body, just keep in mind that tannins in Coffee and tea leech our body’s absorption of iron. So avoid them near meals and always keep in moderation. You will get 15mg of iron per 100 calories of spinach vs 1mg of iron per 100 calories of beef. Cheers!

    • Didina, that’s fantastic! Parsley and Spinach are high in iron so make sure you use plenty of them. If you’re still not getting enough iron, an iron supplement or pill may be in your best interest. Keep me posted! I’m here if you have any questions.

  77. hi don,
i just finished 20 days of juicing and i lost 9kgs. since i started. i just have one problem on my dischardge, it is very hard for me. it takes 2 to 3 days before i dscharge again. is it normal? it is very dry and it is painful.

    thanks and regards

    • Edison, congrats on juicing for 20 days and losing 9kgs! You should understand that juice is absorbed and not digested so it doesn’t really give you anything to discharge. Anything that is being discharged is stuff that you previously ate before the fast and stuff that has been built up over the years. It’s normal for it to be hard but it’s a good sign that your body is removing that stuff. Try adding a lot more lemon and drink more water throughout the day. That should help plenty. Keep me posted Edison.

  78. Hi Donnie,
Just finished a 5 day juice fast, and it was my first experience juicing, and I feel great! I have lost 11 pounds and thanks to the inspiration from you, I am excited to continue on. I plan to introduce whole raw veggies and fruits back into my diet this week.

Just wanted to say thank you for inspiring me to change my bad habits. Cheers!

    • Carlos, congrats on finishing out day 5 of your juice fast and losing 11 pounds! Keep up the great work, you’re doing great things for your health! Keep me posted on your status. I’m always here if you have any questions.

  79. Hi Donnie, Have just found your web site and wanted to say hi from the UK!! I am on day 1 of my first ever juice fast and have found it ok. I’ve not used any of your recipes yet as my juicer will not arrive until tomorrow so I bought juice from the Supermarket. had tomato cold…YUK…..then warmed it up. Much better. Is it ok to use salt and pepper? Well done on your results. I’m hoping for the same. I need to lose 25lbs.

    • Shelagh, you’ll find out that the juice from the supermarket doesn’t even come close to the quality and taste that you’ll be making from home. You can add pepper but not salt. I’m sure you’ll have some awesome results! Keep me posted and let me know how things turn out! I’m always here if you have questions.

      • Hi Donnie, I’m not clear on the suggested 16 to 20oz of juice. You say have around 4 juices per day. Is this 4 16oz juices or 4 juices totalling 16oz for the whole day. Sorry to be dim!!

        • Shelagh, it’s 4 – 6 juices per day with each juice consisting of 16 – 20 ounces. That’s equivalent to between 64 – 120 ounces total per day. Make sure you drink plenty of water too!

          • Thanks Donnie. Just finishing day 4. 5 pounds lost so far and felt really energetic this morning although I am shattered tonight. Few aches and pains…lots of back ache, so I’ve upped the water. Thanks for your advice.

          • Congrats on finishing out day 4 Shelagh! You’re doing awesome!

  80. Hi Donnie,

I am wondering what ended up with your sciatica? I think I have similar problems and would love to know if that was taken care of via the juice?

Thanks for the site, I’ve been juicing 3 days! Using your recipes and following the 14 day fast plan. I use to weigh 311lbs before I turned my life around and over a long 5 years of up and down I took action last year and made it down under 200lbs. I lost 60lbs in 19 weeks through lots of running and dieting. In the last couple of months I’ve gone gluten free as I am pretty sure I am intolerant, through this time I’ve put some weight back on as I do not like many veggies or fruits.

I am hoping the juice fast will help me like veggies so I can handle the gluten free much better.

I am also dying to go running again as I haven’t ran since the beginning of June.

Any advice would be much appreciated and would love to hear about your sciatica.

    Blessings,
    T

    • T, my sciatica is hardly noticeable anymore. Before the fast I was even getting weekly injections to help with the pain. After the fast, I no longer need the injections, don’t need the surgery, don’t need the pain meds, and it hardly bothers me. While the sciatica is still there, I feel it’s at a level that’s manageable now. If it starts to bother me there are a few stretches I do or I’ll just take an ibuprofen and I’m good to go!

Make sure you read the forums as you’ll find plenty of good information in there from people who juice. If you have any questions T just let me know. I’m sure juicing will help you out in a number of ways!

      • Thanks Donnie!

Thats good news, it has started to feel better. However I haven’t been running so its hard to fully know. Thanks for the reply, I needed it. I’m on day 6 and its the hardest so far. I tried the Tomato Basil recipe today and almost lost it. So I’m doing some adjustments and will try to make it through tomorrow. Jolt juice is my favorite for sure.

The 80/20 rule is a good one.

Thanks for this blog, I got my juicer last Wednesday and started the next day mostly because I found this blog. You’ve done a great job!

        T

        • T, the tomato recipe can be a little harsh, make sure if you try it again to use large tomatoes and maybe only a half of a garlic clove. Congrats on day 6! Keep me posted.

          • So I only made it 7 days. Lost 13 pounds and feel a lot better. I’m still juicing twice a day and haven’t eaten to much processed foods yet. Thanks again for the blog and I will keep on juicing as life goes on. I plan on doing another juice fast probably mid February after spending 2 months in Mexico.

          • Theron, congrats on 7 days and 13 pounds! Thanks for keeping me posted! Let me know when you start another fast.

  81. HI Donnie,
I have a few questions. Ive been reading a few articles and such about juicing. Here are a few things i am wondering, 1st, i read you are not saposed to mix fruit with veggie that certain combinations can actually be toxic?! Then im wondering if i precut my veggies and fruit and put then in baggies so its easy to juice as you did, am i loosing some of the quality of the nutrients that eay? Also, are mason jars a gpod eay to store tbe juicr for me to bring to work with me in an insulated luncj bag with cold packs? I work in a dental office so its a little tricky but i know ill figure it out. Thanks and i look forward to starting my new juicing journey!

    • Chantel, there’s no problem mixing fruits and veggies together on the juice fast. It’s best to keep a ration of 80:20, veggies to fruits. As far as that being toxic together, I think that’s a word that gets thrown around way to much lately. Here’s an example… Mushrooms, almonds, cherries, apples, tomatoes, and potatoes are all said to be toxic. That doesn’t stop people from eating french fries with ketchup though. See there are many things that are toxic it just depends on how much of if you have before it becomes a problem. I’ve never seen anyone develop a toxic sickness while on the juice fast.

So don’t be discouraged by what some people say is a toxic combination. While I’m sure some combinations go better with others, don’t rule something out because you heard it’s toxic. When in doubt ask your doctor. I’m sure he will say eating any combination of mushrooms, almonds, cherries, apples, tomatoes, and potatoes is perfectly fine for you, even though someone said they were toxic.

Pre-cutting your ingredients is fine as long you use them as soon as you can. If you do lose any nutrition it’s probably a minimal amount. I like to use mason jars to store my juice. Lately I’ve just been using water bottles though. They work just as well. Let me know how things work out for you Chantel. I’m here if you have any questions.

  82. Thank you for this website I am 39 years old lady 162 cm tall and I weigh 214 pounds Is diet for two months juices sustained suitable for me?Is it within two months not eat any solid food?Is exercise necessary and whether there will be tuck in the skin because the fast descent rate andis walking ok?And I suffer from chronic constipation Are there certain additions? am i allowed to drink hot drinks? And finally ask your support bec

    • Myar, I don’t see why a 60 day juice fast couldn’t be sustained. Do good things for your body, and your body will do good things for you. If you plan to juice fast for 60 days, that means no solids for 60 days, just juice. It’s not necessary to exercise but I would recommend you do some lite exercise after two weeks. Walking is great. Since juice is absorbed and not digested your chronic constipation shouldn’t be an issue.

You can warm your juices up if you like. Keep me posted and let me know how things go Myar. I’m here if you have any questions.

  83. JoeWee

Hello Donnie, I will begin my Juice Festing on Oct. 1st, and looking forward to all of the heath benefits of Juicing as well. Im only 363#’s and 6’3”, hope to get some serious droppage from this program and I do hit the Gym 5 days a week which saves me from hitting 400#’s.
I won’t miss the Beer and Fried Crap either, as I know my Body is POLLUTED from all the years of eating Garbage.
If you have any tips on how much/Oz’s I should injest, please let me know.
    Thanks.

    Joe.

    • Joe, I’m sure you’ll see some serious weight loss if you stick with it. The best thing you can do is to get as much rest during the first few days so your body can recover from detox. Keep me posted on your success! I’m always here if you have questions.

  84. Hi Donnie,

Just wanted to thank you for this website. I am starting my fast this week and have been looking everywhere for a solid base. I really appreciate the shopping list and the recipes. I love the idea of putting each meal in baggies. I am a little nervous about the no-alcohol part. I’m not a huge drinker, but a slow, steady one :) Juice will have to be by new fun!

Thanks again for sharing your story and being an inspiration. When people ask me how I’m looking so good, I’ll refer them here!

    • Lisa, welcome to JOJ and congrats on starting your fast this week! Don’t worry about the alcohol, it’s actually easier than it sounds. I too would have a drink every night but the fast changed that. You’ll start to enjoy the health aspects of the fast much more than the alcohol. Keep me posted on your success! I’m here if you have any questions Lisa.

  85. I just want to say congratulation you really look amazing. Your story was an encouragement for me. My husband is 57 years old and he doesn’t look that age. He began juicing back in March, and like you his blood pressure went down like a teenager and his cholesterol went down as well. He does his fast from Tuesday to Thursday for work in the morning for breakfast and lunch then in the afternoon he eat a normal dinner. We are very happy doing juicing. Again congratulation you look Amazing!

    • Well thank you very much Maria! Congrats to you and your husband for making juicing a part of your life. I wish both of you all the best!

  86. Thank you for the quick response Donnie! And thank you for the very good advice. Your nutrition plan sounds very doable to me. You know, I was on a similar diet plan around 7 years ago, our family became strictly vegan and focused on an alkaline diet. That lasted about 2 years because it was extremely difficult for us to keep that up as we were constantly tempted to eat other foods at different events and gatherings we attended. We went backwards terribly. We tried to get back on track a few years later but that didn’t last either. I’m trying to find some middle ground for my family and I to meet. I started this change recently for myself and for my family. It’s difficult to get our 19 month toddler, our 8 and 11 year olds on board with this. My husband eats whatever I give him but its more challenging for him to get on the juice fast because of his work schedule but I plan to help him with that once I see that he’s ready for the commitment.
For now I’ve had to compromise and fix some of the meals that they like but I serve them each a small portion according to their size and and tell them to drink water and eat a piece of fruit if they ask for seconds. It won’t be easy, but I hope they eventually join us in eating salads and veggies as well as fruits. Have your boys joined you in your healthy eating also or do you continue to prepare conventional foods for them? Thanks!

    • Ivette, I’ve never had to entice my boys to eat healthy, they just do it because that’s how I eat. I give them healthy meals that really appeal to them. I make it fun for them and get them involved in helping me create meals or even juices. They both love to help me in the kitchen. They don’t eat 100% healthy each and every day but I do my best. It’s all in how you present it to them. If I make it fun for them, they really enjoy it.

  87. Hi Donnie,
This might be off topic a bit but hopefully you can help me with this since you’re now my health role model.
Can you please share with me what you eat when you’re not on a juice fast? Or at least let me know what not to eat. For example, I’ve eliminated coffee and sodas from my diet and added a lot more raw foods such as fruits, vegetables and nuts/seeds. But I wasn’t sure if it was okay for me to eat small portions of regular food, including pizza, etc.? I’m thrilled and proud of myself for regaining my health and in turn have inspired some of my family to do the same. Therefor, I don’t want to go backwards on my nutrition.
Thank you Donnie, I appreciate any insight on your part.

    • Ivette, I typically eat a lot of raw fruits and vegetables throughout the day. I like to start my day with some steel cut oatmeal and fruit. The rest of the day is mostly greens and I’ll include a lean protein for dinner. I’ll have a juice or two throughout the day most times but not always. I like to stick to the 80/20 rule when I’m not juice fasting. 80% of everything I eat is plant based and 20% is basically whatever I want to eat.

I don’t drink soda and I stay away from dairy and breads most of the time. I don’t really eat sweets either. I just stick to what’s healthy and it’s been working out really well. I’m glad to have been an inspiration to you! There’s no better personal reward than our very own health. Keep me posted Ivette and let me know how things turn out. I’m always here if you have any questions.

  88. Enam

    hello,

im really excited about starting this diet i even convinced my mom and dad to try it out with me so were going to do 7 days! i was just wondering if its ok to do this while nursing. i really want to start tomorrow but i want to make sure its safe.

    thanks!

    • Enam, congrats on wanting to start your juice fast! While nursing it’s not recommended to go on a complete juice fast. The reason being is that your body releases toxins that get into your bloodstream and your milk. The best way to go about it is to add juicing into your diet and eat only fresh fruits and veggies while also having a protein once a day. This will help your body ease into it more easily. The best thing you can do is to get your doctors advice on the matter as he/she will be more familiar with you and your baby, and both of your needs. Let me know what happens. I’m here if you have any questions Enam.

  89. You have inspired me. I have two young children, I have not been able to lose the weight and I keep making excuses on getting into an exercise program or starting a diet. Recently, a friend starting juicing and from the pics she posted, seems like she lost a lot of weight. I am short and in desperate need of losing 40-50 lbs. I just do not know how and would like to start juicing.
I need to be motivated, I do not have a juicer but do have the nutribullet, do you think I can get the same results if I try that instead? You are an inspiration, thank you for sharing your experience.

    • Lorena, I’m glad to have inspired you to do something. Juicing will help you lose that weight and with proper eating habits and a good exercise routine after your fast, you’ll feel wonderful! You will want to get a juicer as a nutribullet just doesn’t work for juice fasting. Read this article for more information on why you must use a juicer: http://www.justonjuice.com/can-i-use-a-blender-for-juicing/

When you’re ready to get a juicer head over to http://www.justonjuice.com/juicers to see what you need to look for in a juicer.

I’m looking forward to seeing you juice and get into a healthier lifestyle Lorena. Keep me posted and let me know if you have any questions.

      • Donnie i just started juicing yesterday and i am on my second day of the 3 day juice fast. today i am feeling really nauseous..is there any help for that feeling.

        • Nicks, get a lot of rest. You’re going through detox so that’s liable to happen. Just get plenty of rest and sleep, and you’ll do great! I’m here if you have any questions.

  90. Awesome story and transformation! Great job. I started juicing a few years ago and especially like the extra vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals I know my body is receiving. Keep spreading the word.

  91. What an inspiring story! I don’t have a whole lot of weight to lose (20-35 pounds max) but I’ve been looking around for ways to help me lose it. I’ll be starting the 7-day once I can get my hands on a juicer, which will hopefully be by this weekend. My only question is if this is an expensive diet to keep if done for more than a week? Can I substitute frozen vegetables for fresh or would that completely defeat the purpose? Any tips on saving along the way?
    Thanks!

    • Melissa, juicing is actually cheaper than what most people spend to feed themselves throughout the day. It came out to cost me on average $10 per day to juice. You have to keep in mind that this isn’t in addition to what you currently spend to feed yourself. This is the cost to feed yourself when you juice. Prices will vary depending on the time of year, what’s in season, and if you choose organic or conventional. Frozen fruits and vegetables are good as they keep their nutritional value but you will have to make sure they are 100% thawed out before juicing them. If you want to save make sure you see what deals are going on at the local stores and get stuff on sale or in bulk when you can. Some stores will even price match competitors sales so keep that in mind. I wish you all the best Melissa! I’m here if you have any questions along the way.

  92. Well… my sister bought a juicer for me.. it was on sale for 20 bucks at big lots, so im more than ready to follow your advice.. :) thank you! Ill try and post every week on my progress, now i just need a scale..LOL

    • Sounds great Karina! Congrats on getting started! Keep me posted and let me know how things go for you. I’m always here if you have any questions or just need some motivation.

  93. Hello
Doing my first day!!!!! I will do the fast for 5 days.
I wanted to know if I can do 3 juices and one healthy normal meal every day.
I am very exited I’ve tried everything, tired of low carb diets, tired of no success in losing the weight…

    • Mayita, welcome to JOJ and congrats on day 1 of your juice fast! While you can incorporate one solid meal, you won’t get all the benefits of a juice fast. When you add solids you are no longer fasting. Juicing works by allowing your digestive system to rest, rehydrate, and recover. This works because juice isn’t digested like food is. Juice is absorbed into your system. So when you add solids into the mix, you aren’t allowing your digestive system a chance to rest, rehydrate, and recover.

Mayita, the juice fast will work and do amazing things for you if you let it. Just give it a shot and you’ll be glad you did. I’m always here if you have questions.

  94. I’m going to start my juice fast today, and I am very excited about possible results! I hope my results can inspire others as yours have me. So it is sept 10, 2013 I will check back in I am going to do 14 days your web side will be a great help THANKS!!!!!!!!!

    • Mary, congrats on starting your juice fast today! I’m excited to hear of your results! Keep me posted and let me know how things go for you. I’m always here if you have questions Mary.

  95. Thank you guys so much for the responses!, i was just about ready to give up… you see my juicing is difficult, im a single mother on a very short budget. I had bought a $30.00 juicer but returned it because of my budget. So now im doing a “poor juicing” method where i blend everything with one cup of water then transfer it to a cheese cloth.. it takes me around 45 minutes plus the cleaning, but now i think i can do it 1-2 times a day, so i feel motivated again.. actually i tried a “mean green” juice and it was pretty darn good! SInce i dont know a lot about juicing. My juices tasted disgusting! But i found some recepies online, and im really hopefull to transition to an all juice diet, and re-establish good eating habits! Thank you guys so much for you responses, it really makea me feel like someone out there actually cares enough to advice me :)

    • Karina, while the blending method isn’t recommended, I see that it’s your only option right now. Keep doing that and eating only fresh fruits and veggies for now. That will help prepare your body and also work to detox you in the long run. When doing it this way you may try to get in some light exercise throughout the day. Even if it’s just a long walk or a short jog. I know how it is being a single parent and sometimes even taking a short jog is something we just can’t do. There are plenty of youtube videos that can give you some great advice on very simple exercises that you can do at home. Take a look at a few of them and see about adding some exercise routines on top of your juicing and eating. When you can afford to get a juicer I’ll still be here and ready to help you in any way possible. I wish you all the best Karina!

  96. Ok dude! I need your help!!! Im 25, 234lbs. And a mother of 2. I want to lose weight and be like any other young woman my age.. for the past 10 days, ive been trying to fast but i live with my mom and we are mexican.. and we eat a lot of food, every single day i give in to food… once a day then i feel depleted! Its taking a toll on my mindset and makes me realize how weak i am. Any advice on how to overcome this? Please answer, i need help!

    • Karina, try taking a slower approach to juicing. Let’s give this a shot:

For the first week try juicing once or twice throughout the day and only consuming two meals. Make sure your meals are small, light, and consist of about 80% fruits and veggies. Let the other 20% be meats if you like. But try to stay away from breads, cheese, dairy, and sweets.

For the second week, do two to four juices each day and have only one meal. Keep your meal almost all fruits and veggies! Again, no breads, cheese, dairy, or sweets.

For the third week, you should be fully ready to go just on juice. I’m sure you will have lost some weight also. But the important thing is that if you do it this way, it will be so much easier for you to stay on the juice Karina. I wish you the best and hope that you keep me posted. I’m always here if you have any questions.

    • you are right Donnie Toivola about taking a slower approach to juicing, karina like this you are going to be used to juice instead of heavy food. but try to mix fruits , do not juice the same fruits everyday ,do not let it to be boring to you .
i wish you good luck and you need to stay strong and take action to stop gaining weight. be strong.
Donnie Toivola is a great man and he can give you all the tips you want. thanks Donnie for this nice website.

  97. Just wanted to say thank you so much for this website! Today is my first day on the juicing fast and your website/you are my inspiration!

    • Melodee, welcome to JOJ! congrats on starting your juice fast and I’m glad you found your inspiration! I wish you the best. If you have any questions just let me know.

  98. Hi Donnie,
So the idea is nothing but juice, right?
    what about coffee??? :-/

    • Jen, while you can have coffee, it’s not recommended unless you have caffeine free coffee with no sugar or creamer. During the fast you are trying to rid your body of toxins. Caffeine is one of those toxins you want to rid your body of. You can however replace the coffee with a mild tea in the morning. That will be a better alternative. Let me know if you have any questions.

  99. Just got my Juicer last night after watching Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. The reboot website for Joe was too expensive as a support system. I was feeling overwhelmed with it all and came upon your site. Am starting tomorrow! Going for 2 weeks as I’m going to Hawaii in 4. Not only do I need to lose some weight but my body feels inflamed. Really excited to feel better :)
I am a regular exerciser and would like to continue. It’s a boot camp 3 times/ week so it can be intense.
I also have a SERIIOUS chocolate addiction that is not doing me any favors… I’m actually eating some right now.. Ugh

    • Teri, I’m glad you found JOJ. I wish you well on your juice fast. Congrats on your first day today! I bet you’ll look amazing come Hawaii! While it’s okay to exercise while on the fast it’s best to rest and relax during the first few days when you go through detox. Keep away from the chocolate and you’ll do great! Let me know if you have any questions.

  100. This is great! Today is my first day of Juicing and I just came across your website! I am really exited and can’t wait to see what results I get.

  101. Thanks for sharing your story and I myself am about to start a juice cleanse. My question is about how many ounces of juice were you drinking a day when you were doing your cleanse?

    • Angela, I would have 4 juices that were between 16-20 ounces each day. Some days I would have 5 juices of the same quantity. Let me know if you have any questions.

  102. Very, very inspiring! Thank you for sharing your story and knowledge and giving me the push I needed : )

  103. Hi,Donnie. Your story was very inspirational to me. I am a 63 year old woman with a lot of health related issues and depression. I have gone from a fairly healthy, attractive and active woman to an overweight depressed wreck. I have lost so much hair that I am afraid to brush it,and I know a lot is diet and lifestyle related. What are the best veggies and fruits for weight loss and general health restoration?

    • I’m glad I’ve inspired you Chiwalker. I wouldn’t say there are any particular “best” veggies or fruits for the fast. The best thing to do is to have a good variety of them throughout the day. If you take a look at the 7 day plan you’ll see a good variety of different ingredients on there. If you stick to the juices and drink plenty of water you will have amazing results Chiwalker. Keep me posted on your status and let me know how things are going for you. I’m here if you have any questions.

      • chiwalker

Hi,Donnie. Thanks for the info. I decided to go for the two week plan and bought produce yesterday…I already had some on hand, and I have two pear trees and a small garden with tomatoes, squash and cucumbers.

I did the morning glory this morning and the mean green for lunch…not sure how all that is gonna mix with the three donuts from yesterday…sigh…and the ice cream and stuff. We’ll see. Sent hubby out for granny smith apples though probably our pears are less sugary than store bought. I’d like to use my at hand resources…also they are not giant sized like the supermarket pears. Anyway, thanks for the kind reply. I did stream the Joe Cross documentary, but for now I think I’ll stay with your website and not bounce all over the net and get confused, unless you have any recs to share. I love that yours is so used friendly and interactive. You make it very easy to get the info you need and use it immediately, and you don’t push exotic hard to find fruits and supplements that MUST be used for success….bravo,Donnie!

        • Chiwalker, congrats on starting your juice fast. It’s going to be a life changing experience for you. It’s great that you grow some of your own produce. Pears are good in many juices, you’ll have to experiment with them.

I try to make juicing as easy as possible for anyone who wishes to do it. It’s only fair that this information is free and available to those that seek it. The only thing needed for success is you and your juice! Keep me posted on how things go. I’m here if you have any questions.

  104. Hi. Like Samantha I came across your site while searching for juicing recipes. I am really hoping that this juicing diet will change my life for the better as well as make my dad healthier. Thank you for your help, and will tell you how it goes!

    • Angela, if you stick with it and let the juice do it’s magic, your life will change for the better. I’m always here if you have questions. Keep me posted!

  105. Yo are my inspiration I am starting my juicing Friday September 6. Have to wait to get paid to buy a juicer LOL. I am very excited. I too want to get off blood pressure meds, lose weight and be there for my grandchildren.

Thanks you again. Wish me luck

    • Tracy, I’m glad I have inspired you to start your own fast! It’s a great feeling to get off those meds and lose a little weight. I wish you all the best! Let me know how things go for you and I’m here if you have any questions.

  106. Dude,
